Enjoying Grilled Daeha Shrimp in Dangjin, South Korea

I kept receiving photos of grilled daeha shrimp (salt-grilled giant shrimp), and I couldn't help but feel envious. So, despite the distance, I decided to visit a recommended restaurant to try it myself. The process is simple: coarse salt is spread in a pot, live shrimp are placed on top, and then covered to grill. Midway through, the heads are cut off and fried separately. The well-grilled shrimp are peeled and eaten with chogochujang (vinegared gochujang). The simplicity of the dish allows the shrimp to shine. This restaurant is run by a shrimp farming company, ensuring the shrimp are exceptionally large, fresh, and juicy. We easily devoured 1kg between the two of us. The flavor was explosive. I've had kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) several times before, but while it was tasty, it never left a lasting impression. This time, however, the broth was infused with shrimp flavor, making it incredibly delicious. Despite being full, I'm glad we ordered it. This dish is available from September to November. When I visit Korea in the fall, I definitely want to eat it again.
