Frankfurt: Christmas Market done right!

Since Christmas Market season is fast approaching I start thinking once again about my favourite time of year and one of (or actually, two of) my favourite Christmas Markets. The Friday night in December 2023 I flew into Frankfurt, where modern beauty meets German history for the Christmas Market. Arriving late on the Friday from Heathrow, I decided to head straight to bed to rise early for an intercity train to the delightful Heidelberg (picture 2) for the most delicious local food and fresh mulled wine. I walked the cobbled streets for a while and saw the striking Old Bridge (picture 3) before heading back to central Frankfurt. Having got the bug for German Christmas Markets, I further indulged in browsing the market stalls, tasting local food delights and looking above to the beautiful old buildings and their beautiful performances from the musicians (picture 4). I awoke on the Sunday for yet more of the same (it was hard to resist) but saw the market really come to life in the day (picture 1).
