Kyushu Travel Guide (Season 2) — Miyajidake Shrine

One-Day Itinerary: A day trip around Fukuoka, from Hakata Station to Miyajidake Shrine, with a detour to Fukuma Beach before returning. On my second trip to Kyushu, I still found Fukuoka's hustle and bustle a bit overwhelming, but I unexpectedly discovered a hidden gem for a one-day trip around the area. A solid 4-star experience! 1. From Hakata Station to Fukuma Station: P13. Head to the JR platform at Hakata Station and take the Kagoshima Main Line. It’s a 30-minute ride to Fukuma Station, and the JR Pass is valid! 2. From Fukuma Station to Miyajidake Shrine: There’s a bus right at the bottom of the station escalator, or you can take a taxi. The bus ride takes about 10 minutes and runs once an hour. Grab a boarding ticket when you get on and pay when you get off. The road is very sunny with no shade, so walking (about 30 minutes) is not recommended. 3. Exploring the Shrine: From the shrine’s hilltop, you can see a straight road leading to the azure coastline, offering an incredible view. Inside the shrine, you can draw fortunes and buy souvenirs. The back hill features a small version of Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Shrine’s famous thousand torii gates ⛩️. 4. Returning to Fukuma Station: There’s no bus from the restaurant area back to the station, so you’ll need to call a taxi. We strolled back to the station in about 30 minutes, but walking in the summer heat is not recommended—it’s scorching! 🔥 Summary: Overall, if you have a day to spare after shopping in Fukuoka, I highly recommend visiting this spot. Personally, I think it’s more worthwhile than some of the city’s attractions. It was the perfect way to wrap up my second trip to Kyushu. I’d give it 4 stars 🌟, on par with Sakurajima!
