2024 Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Ho Chi Minh City was formerly known as Saigon. It is one of Vietnam's liveliest cities and a hub for commerce and culture. This place has all kinds of classically elegant French buildings that were left behind from the colonial period. You will feel almost as if you are in Paris. Apart from the sightseeing tours of places like the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, the Ho Chi Minh City City Hall and the Municipal Theatre, you can witness more grand French-style architecture off the beaten path by visiting the Central Post Office and mail a post card. At the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum you can learn about Vietnam's more recent history, take a boat trip along the Mekong River, or enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee in an old French-style café. Phạm Ngũ Lão Street is very quiet and peaceful during daylight hours. Once night falls, however, this place comes alive. Not only an excellent place to enjoy the city's nightlife, it is also a favorite place for backpackers to stay.

I found the ceiling of refrigerator magnets here.
French, Chinese and Vietnamese local cultures are intertwined here, giving Saigon its own unique romance. Just like the book street, one side is the solemn red church, and the other side is the bustling Book Street. Two completely different pictures, but I can see them in one scene. This should be the charm of Vietnam.
✅About Book Street:
⭕️During the French colonial period, this road was called Hong Kong Street. In 1897, it was renamed Cadiz, and in 1955, it was renamed Nguyen Khau Street. Until 2000, it was renamed Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, named after Nguyen Van Binh, a famous intellectual in Vietnamese history;
⭕️Book Street is opposite the Red Church, and the whole street is not very long. There are bookstores on both sides, mostly Vietnamese books, with a few English and French books;
⭕️In addition to bookstores, there are also several beverage shops. In the middle of the street, there are some children's handicrafts, where you can draw Ao Dai and Vietnamese conical hats. There is also an uncle who is similar to the portrait painter in Shanghai Yuyuan Garden. The whole street is not very long, and it takes about 20 minutes to walk from front to back;
✅Recommended attractions:
⭕️Because most of the books are in Vietnamese, it is really hard to find Chinese and English books. But you can browse the comic books there. Currently, all mainstream comics are available on the market, and ordinary single volumes are cheap (in Vietnamese Dong):
【Spy x Family】25,000
【Chainsaw Man】Latest single volume 45,000
【Jujutsu Kaisen】First edition limited edition 65,000
【Yakuzza Husband】Special edition 50,000
⭕️As a refrigerator magnet enthusiast, I have visited almost all the gift shops on the street, most of them are the same, and the price difference is huge. Famous handmade refrigerator magnets are exquisite but not cheap, about 100 yuan, with different stalls. It is located in the newsstand near the entrance of the Central Post Office. One refrigerator magnet costs 320,000 Vietnamese Dong;

🇻🇳 HCMC Water Puppet Show
#folkactivities #100WaysOfTravel
I have been to Ho Chi Minh city many times but this my first time coming to a water puppet show. This is one of the top tourist attractions to do in HCMC and it is an old traditional art performance. The show talks about the culture and heritage using the puppets controlled by humans submerged inside water. You can find tickets to Golden Dragon Water Puppet show. It does get somewhat boring after a while watching this show but try to watch it with an open mind and appreciate the hard work. This show is about 45 minutes and it is great to be able to enjoy traditional performances.

Its prosperity, diversity, and coexistence of old and modern make everyone who comes here experience the unique charm of this city.
As soon as you enter Ho Chi Minh City, you will see the bustling scene on the streets. The endless stream of people, the colorful motorcycle army, and various spices, snacks, clothing and other stalls are full of every street. The hustle and bustle of the market and the vitality constitute the symphony of life in Ho Chi Minh City. This complexity and noise also highlight the openness and vitality of this city.
Here, history and modernity always collide unexpectedly. First we arrived at the war ruins in the city. Every tourist who visits these places can see many memorials, learn about the stories of the anti-American war, and deeply experience the profound impact of this history on the city. Whether it is an old French building or a modern high-rise building, it shows the inclusiveness and diversity of this city. Walking in the streets and alleys, you can see various architectural styles intertwined, forming a vivid picture.
In addition to the bustling market and unique architectural style, the food in Ho Chi Minh City is also not to be missed. The food here combines the characteristics of Southeast Asia and the traditional flavor of Vietnam, such as the famous Vietnamese river powder, French bread and rich seafood. In the small restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City, you can taste these delicious dishes to your heart's content.

No matter where you come from, you can find your own emotions and experiences here. If you have never been to Ho Chi Minh City, then you might as well take the time to feel the charm of this city! I believe you will be attracted and convinced by its unique charm.
🪩 Bui Vien Walking Street
#nightlife #100WaysOfTravel
A busy street in HCMC district 1 and the music is loud. Anyone can come here including children but if you want to drink then you have to be of legal age. There are also many dancing platforms to lure you into their bars and restaurants. There are also many street food hawkers and buskers trying to gain your attention too. It is better to be safe and take care of your belongings here. You will also see policemen passing by and when it happens, the staff will remove the makeshift tables and chairs on the street but place it back once after the police passed by. The bahi mi selling on this street is yummy and they roast it on the spot too.

I would also recommend you to visit Thien Hau Temple. It is dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess, Mazu; beautiful courtyard and altars. You can also walk the surrounding Chinatown for a deeper cultural experience.
📍710 Nguyen Trai, Ward 11, District 5 (Chinatown)
Just to share some of my favourite restaurants 🥘 We visited Quan An Ngon. We tried their Goi Cuon (spring rolls), Bun Rieu (crab noodle soup), Com Tam (broken rice with grilled pork). All of them were really delicious 😍😍😍
💰VND 100,000 - 200,000 (approx. USD 4 - 8)
📍 138 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1
You may also try Cuc Gach Quan. This is a cozy, eco-friendly restaurant serving delicious home-style Vietnamese dishes. Out of all the food, the dishes that we love the most were Bo Kho (beef stew), Ca Kho To (caramelized fish in clay pot), Canh Chua (sour soup) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
💰 VND 150,000 - 300,000 (approx. USD 6 - 12)

City walking in Ho Chi Minh is one of the best activities to do! There is so much going on in the vibrant city. Street walking vendors selling fruit, hundreds of motorbikes whizzing down the road, beautiful light at night, there is no reason not to visit Ho Chi Minh.
Enjoying the delicious Pho noodle dish at a small roadside restaurant, drinking a tonic coffee is the perfect ending to a hot day of visiting the monuments, landmarks and Cathedrals.

Visiting the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City 🕊️
This museum offers an intense look into the history and impact of the Vietnam War, providing important insights into the country's past.
🖼️ Historical Exhibits:
The museum houses a wide range of exhibits, including photographs, artifacts, and military equipment, that document the harsh realities of war. Each exhibit tells a story of courage, resilience, and the human cost of conflict. 📜
🌍 Global Perspective:
What makes this museum stand out is its focus on both Vietnamese and international perspectives. It’s a sobering reminder of the impact of war not just on Vietnam, but on the world. 🌏
✊ Human Stories:
Some of the most moving parts of the museum are the personal stories—photos and letters from soldiers and civilians that give a human face to the history. These stories resonate deeply and make you reflect on the true cost of war. 💔
📸 Outdoor Displays:
The museum also features outdoor displays of military vehicles, helicopters, and fighter jets. Standing next to these massive machines really brings home the scale of the conflict. 🚁
💔 Why I’m Moved:
Visiting the War Remnants Museum was a humbling experience. It’s a place that makes you pause and reflect on the past, and appreciate the value of peace. It’s a must-visit for anyone wanting to understand Vietnam’s history more deeply.
If you’re in Ho Chi Minh City, make time to visit this important museum. It’s a place for learning, reflection, and understanding. 🕊️

Best coffee in Vietnam at Trung Nguyen cafe
#cafestory
As a coffee lover, I spent my weekend getaway to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is known as one of the best country that has amazing coffee quality in the world. For recommendation, I highly recommend you to go to Cafe Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee. They have 5 variant of its own best coffee called Sang Tao, which is:
Variant 1: Culi Robusta
Variant 2: Robusta & Arabica
Variant 3: Arabica SE
Variant 4: Culi Arabica + Robusta
Variant 5: Culi Arabica
I tried variant 4 and it's really suit my taste, in fact that was the best coffee I have ever had!
It is not hard to find this cafe because it is spread all over the city and easy to find.
Here is the one I went to:
Address - 📍Trung Nguyen Legend Cafe Van Chiem
Ambiance - warm and relaxing
Highlights - Sang Tao coffee
Avg. Price per Person - 45.000 VND and more
Rating - 5/5 🌟
The cozy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor setting will give you a warm and relaxing ambiance. All the barista here are so helpful and friendly just to give you information about what coffee will suit your taste
