Our day trip to the ancient town of Hội An was steeped in history, culture, and, of course, the local café scene. Among the countless charming spots to unwind, we were drawn to Memories Brunch and Cafe, a delightful three-story gem that blends modern comforts with the old-world charm of Hội An.
The café itself was an oasis from the relentless heat outside. We were instantly drawn to the air-conditioned interior, where the atmosphere was cool and inviting, a perfect retreat from the blazing sun. The moment we sat down, we knew we had made the right choice. We ordered a coconut milk coffee—a local specialty—and it exceeded all expectations. The creamy texture, combined with the subtle sweetness of coconut, made each sip feel like a small, luxurious escape from the summer heat.
But what truly made the experience memorable was the warm hospitality. The staff, attentive and friendly, brought us chilled water to refresh us further. To our pleasant surprise, the café’s owner personally came over to greet us. She had a radiant smile and a genuine warmth that made us feel like old friends. She shared a little insider tip: the best time to explore the ancient town was early in the morning, when the streets are empty, and the town feels like a serene, untouched relic of the past.
Intrigued by her advice, we made a mental note for the next day, but first, we ventured up to the café’s balcony. As we stepped outside, the view took our breath away. Below us, Hội An sprawled out like a living postcard—ancient rooftops, winding streets, and the gentle curve of the Thu Bồn River all bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun. It was a photographer’s dream, every angle offering a new perspective on the town’s timeless beauty.
As we sipped the last of our coffee and soaked in the view, we realized that this moment, perched above the ancient town with a perfect cup of coffee in hand, was the essence of what makes travel so special. It’s the small, unexpected moments of connection—with a place, its people, and even yourself—that linger in your memory long after the journey ends.

🥥Visit the Cam Thanh Coconut Village village and enjoy a ride on a traditional basket boat.
💛Return to the Ancient Town to explore its charming streets, ancient architecture, and historical sites.
🌅Choose a restaurant with a view of the river and savor the sunset from the balcony on the second floor. Our option was Tiệm Cà Phê Nhà Mình, make sure to ask to be seated upstairs!
🛶Take a leisurely boat ride along the river.
‼️ Be mindful of candle wishes. While it’s popular to make wishes and release floating candles into the river, I don’t recommend it due to its negative impact on the environment. Many of these candles end up polluting the river.

As a worshipper of Old Town vibes, I made myself step in the old town in Vietnam called Hoi An. The old town style here still in pure and original touch as the lantern is the most iconic attraction to tourist and spread everywhere in the city.
The old town style holds perfectly as an identity of Hoi An which renowned as one of the best old town in Vietnam. This makes Hoi An interesting to visit and no wonder if there are a lot of tourist coming to witness its original old vibes touch.
As my recommendation, I suggest you to rent a bike (for some cases, some hotels will allow you to use their bike for free) and explore the city during sunset time and so on as this time will be the best temperature and there will be a lot of attraction start opening such as canal ride and authentic local stores.
On how to get there, you could take bus from wherever you are and make sure there is available bus route direct to Hoi An or Da Nang city, or you can also take plane to Da Nang city. After you arrived in Da Nang, you could rent a motorbike or car and drive for around 30 minutes to get there.
Staying a night is optional but it will be more enjoyable if you stay a night in Hoi An. It is worth visiting town, i assure you.
As of now, Hoi An is my top notch worth visiting destination in Vietnam. It serves peaceful, quiet, warm and politeness by the local! It's absolutely fun in Hoi An.

Located in Hoi An Old Town, tomdo is a spontaneous visit without any prior research, thanks to its impressive Google Maps rating of 4.9! I was able to taste really cost-effective lobster dishes. The lobster was plump, and the morning glory and the bread set were all delicious, each sauce was tasty, and it was a pleasure to enjoy the lobster in the cool air conditioning. I recommend it as an Old Town delicacy.

🇻🇳 Charming Hoi An Ancient Town
A visit to Da Nang is not complete without visiting Hoi An which is located 30 km from Da Nang International Airport. Inscribed in 1999 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. We spent half a day exploring the ancient town which is famous for its traditional architecture, lantern-lit streets and vibrant atmosphere and iconic Japanese Covered Bridge. There were plenty of opportunities for us to capture stunning photos as we explored the old town. We also enjoyed checking out clothes stores which sell Vietnamese traditional costumes with beautiful prints.

🇻🇳Lovely Breakfast Buffet🇻🇳
We looked forward to our breakfast every morning here at the Mulberry Hotel in Hoi An. It was not a huge spread like those other bigger hotels but it was sufficient enough to satisfy our mornings especially with an egg station, variety of bread and continuous flow of coffee and juice.
The good always tasted good and the staff was always very friendly and helpful. Also the breakfast area was never full, plenty of space and located just beside their nice pool. Really recommend staying here and booking with breakfast.

We chilled at Uncle Huan Coffee for their amazing Happy Hour Deals and beautiful views from their upper seats.
Their Drink menu is so extensive we didn’t know what to order so asked for recommendations, the drinks we had did not disappoint at all, really proper cocktails and the staff was exceptional👍
We had views of the Ba Mu Temple, the busy street and the stunning sunset sky💜This is a great place to just relax and people watch, they have a lower area and an upper area- which I highly recommend.We also sat til sunset and the sky was just beautiful.
Uncle Huan Coffee is definitely a place to enjoy coffee, food and drinks, it has one of the best views indeed🧡

🇻🇳Bale Well in Hoi An🇻🇳
As we walked around Hoi An, I made sure to go to Bale Well for their famous Cao Lau Noodles. We ate at famous place, called Bale Well Restaurant - known for their Com Ga, a dish of shredded poached chicken served with seasoned pilaf rice, shredded green papaya and carrot, fresh herbs, and a bowl of chicken broth, a dish absolutely packed with flavor. We also of course had their Cao Lao noodle dish which was equally satisfying!
This street is tastefully decorated with colorful lanterns and there is also another famous Cao Lao place next door—will also post about it!

This ancient city of Hoi An is just so splendid in all aspects. As we walked around, we noticed how beautifully built the structures are and the vibrant color of yellow. We also noticed lots of art around on walls as well as their signature lanterns hanging in a lot of places. It really makes you feel like you are whipped back in time when you walk around Hoi An—it truly gives you a unique experience—an unforgettable one I might add. I really enjoyed witnessing all sorts of cultural
aspects in this town, even their Starbucks was adorable!

So many beautiful structures around and if you will notice they use the color yellow in a lot of their structures, this town is recognizable by these yellow buildings and it is why it is dubbed The Yellow City of Lanterns🏮
We strolled into the inner streets of Hoi An’s bustling old ancient town and we are met with lots of shops,cafes,restaurants and the Thu Bon River💙

Sky Deck At Bel Marina Hoi An

On the top of our hotel building lies their infinity pool and sky deck which also has a sky bar.
While most guests like us were up there for the view and the pool, it is a rather huge space that can hold your mini events such as wedding or cocktail reception.
The place was really clean and extends out to a 360 view of the place. Though not a tall building it is one tallest in the vicinity so you will get unblock view. Check out my other posts for photos of the infinity pool, main pool and how the hotel room looks like!

We decided to head straight to Hoi An for our Da Nang trip and we were pleasantly surprised our resort we booked looks exactly the same like in their marketing pictures. In fact even better!
Upon arrival at their lobby. Their bell boy would receive your luggage and you can proceed to check in, during check in, welcome drinks (lemongrass) are provided while they are processing your details. Since it was mid autumn we were given mooncakes too.
The hotel lobby is located next to their main pool which “cascade” over the Thu Bon River and the hotel garden.

We were at An Bang because and because we had a lot of time left but enough for another location to sightsee before out scheduled driver will arrive in our hotel to send us to Bana Hills, we decided to pick a place at the beach to have lunch and admire the beautiful beach.
The easiest pick was to choose the one that looks like they had the most crowd, we had a look and like the environment, and there was a table next to the sea for us!
It was so much fun admiring An Bang beach under the shade, we had ordered fish and chips for sharing, a fresh coconut and a coconut coffee. It is always nice eating fish and chips overseas, they feel like the real deal.

A popular tourists attraction in Hoi An ancient town is the thu bon river that goes around the area giving an extra touch while exploring the area.
There is a very famous Japanese bridge that’s more than 400 years old now which was under construction when we are there.
However there is still the main bridge that allows pedestrians to cross over the different sides of the town.
But the main highlight is the river boat ride with lanterns! Usually tourists will ride it after darkness but we saw some of them riding in the evening. We chose darkness because we only had one night and wanted to explore the town first.

We had booked the premier deluxe city view room at Bel Marina Hoi A Resort and was really impressed by it. I was prepared to get something not I saw in pictures but no!
They didn’t use wide angle shots for their marketing photos but the room really looks like what it is on photos.
As it was my birthday celebration they also kindly decorated my room. Thank you!
The room comes with a huge bathtub in the room (I don’t like bathtubs inside the toilet with no view) and comes with separate rooms for showering and toilet bowl. Something very important for me to speed things up during travel preparations.
Our room also came with a balcony that overlooks the city since we got the top floor.
You can also pay to top up for pool and river view which didn’t.

The magic of Hoi An! ✨
Hoi An is one of my favourite places to visit in Asia! It’s honestly one place I wouldn’t mind going back to over and over again. I visited for the first time in 2015 and for the second time now a few months ago. This was also one of the first international trips I took post COVID, I have to admit, it was way more crowded this time especially Old Town. I’ve listed down a rough itinerary while in Hoi An.
Where to stay:
1) Maison Vy Hotel - This hotel deserves an entire post on its own. I’ve never met hotel staff who are so kind and willing to go above and beyond to make customers as comfortable as possible.
Where to eat:
1. Madam Kieu for delicious food overlooking Old town
2. Roving Chill House for lunch in the paddy fields
3. The Deckhouse An Bang Beach for fresh seafood and cocktails by the beach
4. Market Bar Hoi An for sunset drinks
5. 93 Station restaurant & cafe for coffee with a view of Old town from above
6. Spice Viet Restaurant for local Vietnamese food
7. Banh Mi Phuong for the best Banh Mi in town! This was recommended by the great Anthony Bourdain
What to do:
1. Don’t miss the bucket boat ride which Hoi An is famous for
2. Shop for leather goods and other handcrafted items at Old town market
3. Get a custom suit or outfit stitched in Old town (ask your hotel to recommend a few tailors)

Spinning Basket Boats - Vietnam
Solo Travelling around Vietnam.
Attended the Eco Cooking Class in Hoi An and included, was a ride to the cooking class venue via a basket boat. A fun and unique experience! Our boat driver was hilarious and spun us around in the basket boat. Included is some crab fishing, fisherman net throwing and boat paddling. Met some fellow solo travellers.

Koi Hoi An Resort and Spa - Delightful stay near Hoi An
It's a fabuolous beachfront rrsort near Hoi An.
There is a lake on the territory, a bridge over the river which leads you to the road and the seashore.
I really loved the charming design of the interiors. it looks like it was inspired by the culture and history of this area in Vietnam.
You can see some Koi fish in the small pond near the restaurant.
The shuttlebus from this hotel will transport you to Hoi An Old Town and back, which is very convenient, the trip takes about 30 min.
I reccomed trying spa at this resort, they have good promotions and the quality of beauty procedures is on top.

Hoi An in Quang Nam province is a bright city in central Vietnam with very reach history.
Hoi An is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The Old Town has a unique architecture you, which is very well kept and preserved. The yellow houses with brown tile roofs look absolutely amazing under the Vietnamese bright blue sky.
There are plenty of ancient temples, old tailor shops, and authentic restaurants.
It's a truly MUST VISIT spot in Vietnam.

Getting here: 30-minute taxi from Da Nang or 15-minute taxi from Hoi An old town.
An Bang beach is one of the best beaches in Vietnam. Easily accessible from both Da Nang and Hoi An, the beach runs for several KM and there is soft sand and beautiful colourful sea waters to enjoy.
On the beach there are many sun loungers and you can enjoy an inexpensive ice coffee from many of the seaside cafe’s.

Hoi An - A Colourful Wonderland of Lanterns
Hoi An was one of our favourite places whilst visiting Vietnam and we highly recommend you visit if you ever get the chance!
Enjoy your time exploring the beautiful, authentic streets that are filled with colourful lanterns that light the paths at night. Sample coffees, visit tailoring shops and get souvenirs from the shops that line the bubbling streets.
Whilst you’re here, book a tour to do the basket boats! It’s a must do, for a decent price, that includes performances and even crab fishing.
Finally, make your own custom lantern at one of the many lantern making classes and take a piece of Hoi An home with you!

Come and see one of the most scenic rivers in Asia. Situated beside the UNESCO sight of Hoi An old city, this river is a lively scenic area filled with boats, street food and culture.
Take a walk around sunset time and witness the boats sailing past and the sun setting down. It’s a superb place to sit, relax and enjoy the local coffee and seasonal fruits.

Coffee shop name: Sound of Silence Coffee Shop
Location: An Bang beach, Hoi An in Vietnam
This is perhaps my favourite coffee shop in the Hoi An area of Vietnam. It is huge and located right by the sea with superb sea views. You can choose to sit inside or sit outside but the natural sea breeze will cool you down.
There are sun loungers and high chairs to sit for admiring the view. The black coffee has a great taste too and make sure you try the famous egg coffee.
A dream like experience and not too expensive. 40VND for a coffee.

Scumptious Vietnamese Cuisine at Pho Xua Riverside

A general rule of traveling is to enjoy their local delicacies, and it is best to have them all in a single restaurant. We managed to find this restaurant slightly further away from the Hoi An Old Town called Pho Xua Riverside that serves a wide variety of local delicacies. We ordered Cau Lau and White Rose dumplings (Hoi An specialilty), Pho Bo and Banh Xeo, and we really enjoyed the taste. The owner is also very kind to keep checking if the food is nice and acceptable. The meal is also very reasonably priced between 40000 - 65000 Vietnamese dong per dish. We left the place with a very satisfying stomach, good memory and a good review of the restaurant at varies site.
The Romantic Ancient Town of Hoi An

The Ancient Town of Hoi An used to be the trading port of Vietnam between the 15th till 19th century. Located 30km south of Da Nang, merchants especially from China and Japan will stopover here and trade their goods with the local Vietnamese, which is why you can observe several landmarks such as the Japanese Bridge, Hokkien Association, Cantonese Association, Confucius Academy etc. This entire town is lit up with very colourful lanterns across all streets within the premise. You also get to enjoy lovely local food and western cuisines, or chillout in a pub or juice bar. By 10pm, take a boat ride by the river and make a wish with a paper lantern and flow it fown the stream. It is a remarkable experience and will definitely come again.

Getting There - To get to Hoi An Impression park from the old town, you can choose to move in two ways:
Option 1: Take a leisurely walk to the park
From Cam Nam Bridge, walk to 200 Nguyen Tri Phuong, then turn left. At this location there will be a bridge leading to the park. You can choose to walk to see the romantic Hoai River at sunset or take the tram to go to the park gate.
Attractions - Inspired by the prosperity of the ancient trading port of Hoi An. Therefore, when coming to the park, you feel like you are lost in the colorful history of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Hoi An architecture intersects with East-West cultures, shown through communal columns, tiled roofs, skylights, and gables, etc. Japanese Village - a place to re-enact stories bearing strong ties between the two countries. Viet Nhat makes you watch unable to take your eyes off.
Vietnamese culture has been associated with spiritual beliefs since ancient times. Therefore, it is indispensable for temples, amms or communal houses. From the park gate, you go along the left side which will lead to Vietnam Pagoda. A place to worship the gods in the three realms of Heaven - Earth - Human according to traditional customs. In addition, the outdoor activity area is always a place to hold back visitors with interesting folk games such as ball chopsticks, umbrellas, etc. Childhood memories will come rushing back to you.
It is the largest outdoor performance program in Vietnam. “Hoi An Memories” will bring visitors back to history – the first starting point, when this place was formed.
