Travelogue of Honfleur, France

Honfleur, a small port city in Normandy, France. About two and a half hours by car from Paris, the place I arrived at along the sea breeze had a beauty that captivated my heart at first sight. The quaint alleys with cobblestone streets, the picturesque harbor scenery, and the buildings with a medieval atmosphere approached me like an oil painting. The ‘vieux bassin (old port)’, which can be called the symbol of Honfleur, was always full of energy. The colorful buildings lined up along the harbor, and the sight of yachts floating on the calm water seemed like they had jumped out of an Impressionist painting. In fact, this was a city loved by artists such as Monet, Boudin, and Courbet. I started my day early in the morning by sitting at a cafe near the harbor and enjoying a warm croissant and coffee. As I walked slowly down the street, galleries, workshops, and antique shops located here and there caught my attention. In particular, the Sainte-Catherine Church left a deep impression with its unique wooden structure and atmosphere. For lunch, I tried fresh seafood dishes. I enjoyed freshly caught mussels and fish dishes with Normandy cider, and I could fully experience the charm of a seaside city. And in the evening, the street music heard while walking along the port under the red sky added to the romance of the trip. Honfleur is a small city, but it is a city where time seems to have stopped and the artistic sensibility unique to France coexist.
