The oldest Tin Hau Temple in Hong Kong

The Fo Tang Mun Tin Hau Temple is the oldest Tin Hau Temple in Hong Kong and even in the Greater Bay Area. It was built in the second year of Xianchun in the Southern Song Dynasty (1266) and is a Grade I historic building in Hong Kong. The main hall is dedicated to the Queen of Heaven. On the Queen of Heaven’s birthday on March 23rd of the lunar calendar every year, many devout men and women come to worship all night long. In the past, fishermen or water people would come to ring the bronze bell and touch the dragon bed before going out to sea, in order to pray for a safe return.
