Wu Cheng'en's Former Residence (Huai'an, Jiangsu)

The former residence of Wu Cheng'en, the outstanding Ming Dynasty writer, world-renowned literary figure, and author of *Journey to the West*, is located at No. 12 Datong Alley in Hexia Ancient Town, Huai'an District, Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a key cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. The residence covers an area of 15,000 square meters, with a building area of 4,000 square meters, and features a complex of classical garden-style buildings in the Ming Dynasty style. Located in the northwest of Huai'an City, the former residence backs onto the Grand Canal and consists of a simple and elegant courtyard with gray brick walls. Inside, there are structures such as a study. Wu Cheng'en's former residence is a famous tourist attraction in Huai'an City, receiving tens of thousands of domestic and international tourists every year. The golden characters "Wu Cheng'en's Former Residence" on the plaque above the main entrance were inscribed by the late renowned calligrapher and chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, Shu Tong.
