"Emerald in the city": Kunming

Cuihu, originally called "Caihaizi", because there are "nine springs out, gathered into a pool" in the northeast of the lake, it is also called "Jiulongchi". During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, Fan Chengxun, and the governor Wang Jiwen built Biyi Pavilion (commonly known as Haixin Pavilion) in the lake, with sparkling water and shady trees. During Tang Jiyao's time, east-west and north-south embankments were built in the lake, dividing the lake into four parts. There is a Haixin Pavilion in the lake, a Guanyu Hall on the west side, and a Shuiyue Pavilion on the southeast. The old couplet on the embankment of Cuihu, "Ten acres of lotus fish world, half of the city's willows caress the building", is known as "Emerald in the city".
