Thrilling Kuqa Half-Day Tour: A Journey Worth Taking

After a beautiful drive through the North Xinjiang section of the Duku Highway, we arrived in South Xinjiang's first stop—Kuqa, a city of diverse ethnicities and cultures, home to over 40 ethnic groups. Kuqa, anciently known as "Qiuci," is the birthplace of the world-renowned Qiuci culture. Once the only convergence point of four great civilizations—Ancient India, Greco-Roman, Persian, and Han-Tang— it gave rise to the famed Qiuci culture, leaving behind a rich legacy such as Buddhist cave murals, music, and dance. In 2012, it was named a "National Historical and Cultural City." The most famous attraction in Kuqa is undoubtedly the Kuqa Grand Naan. While naan bread is common across Xinjiang, on Reystan Road, an entire street is dedicated to packing and shipping these giant naans. At just 4 yuan, Kuqa's grand naan is the most delicious and affordable we've had on our journey! Reystan Road connects to Kuqa's Old Street, forming a vibrant night market with snacks and groceries. The colorful street comes alive at night, bustling with energy. The famous Flower Hat Alley is also located here. At the end of the street lies the Kuqa Prince's Mansion, where you can take a flower-decorated cart for a leisurely ride. Rumor has it that 🇨🇳's last princess still resides here. Qiuci Alley dazzles with lights and performances every evening. At the end of the show, the performers invite everyone to dance together— a delight for kids! By day, the colorful streets make for even more stunning photos. These three connected streets are within easy walking distance. We visited the Kuqa Grand Canyon in the morning and enjoyed dinner on Reystan Street before strolling to Qiuci Alley in the evening— all with plenty of time to spare.
