Day four of the Hainan self-driving tour, Fenjiezhou Island. According to online travel guides, it's suggested to choose between Fenjiezhou Island and Wuzhizhou Island, as the activities offered on both islands are quite similar. Among the many options, I chose the submarine sightseeing, something I've never experienced before. Underwater, the clarity of the water is entirely up to luck, closely related to the day's waves, but there will definitely be fish . There are divers feeding the fish underwater, attracting schools of fish, and there are swaying corals too, although not many, since it's a protected area where one is not allowed to go too deep. If you're just sightseeing on Fenjiezhou Island, the route is very simple: get to the pier, turn left, and there's a lighthouse built to resemble the ones in Hayao Miyazaki's animations. After taking photos, head back to the pier, turn left again to go to Moonlight Ancient Castle. A few minutes' walk and you'll see a colorful coastal road with waves crashing against the huge rocks on the shore. At the end of the road is Moonlight Ancient Castle, built specifically for filming, and it's very photogenic. To visit these two places, return the same way to the island's visitor center, exchange your ticket for the tour bus, and then just follow the bus. Get off at each stop, tour the area, and wait for the bus to the next stop. Remember to keep your tour bus ticket safe, as you need to show it at each stop to board. The island's commercial street has some nice food options with reasonable prices. We went onto the island at 9:30 in the morning and left at 2:00 in the afternoon, heading to Wuzhishan, staying near the Shuiman River in the Wuzhishan tropical rainforest.
