The art of rammed earth construction

The beauty of Yongding Tulou lies in its architectural art. Yongding Tulou is mostly round in appearance, some are square, built with rammed earth and granite, it looks like an ancient and sturdy castle up close, and like a modern 'bird's nest' stadium from a distance. The interior of the Tulou adopts a corridor-style design, and the cantilevered structure gives it a sense of hierarchy and three-dimensionality. At the same time, there is a patio inside the Tulou, which is convenient for lighting and ventilation, and also symbolizes the philosophical concept of the unity of heaven and man. In terms of cultural connotations, Yongding Tulou is a masterpiece of the ethnic minorities in southern Fujian, reflecting their lifestyle, beliefs, and cultural traditions. Inside the Tulou, visitors can see many traditional furniture, utensils and decorations, as well as traditional handicrafts such as paper cutting, embroidery, wood carving, etc., all of which are important components reflecting local folk customs.
