Due to its picturesque scenery the town was designated a National Historic Site in 1970

Traveling westward in Spain ~ Badajoz Province (region) Archaeological remains show that the area was once inhabited by Goths. It is dominated by a 15th century castle which can be seen before we reach the town. The castle was built on the site of an original fort built by the Arabs. From the castle and its powerful towers, one can enjoy an impressive panorama. Not far from the castle, in the Molino Mountains, we find the "House of the Monks" dolmen, which still retains a room and a corridor made of seven huge stone slabs. The town's most notable feature is its historic quarter, whose façade has intact all traditional features, such as carefully painted houses. The map of the village forms a central area surrounding the parish church of San Bartolome and the town hall; several suburbs protrude from this center and line the roads leaving the town, forming a shape resembling an open hand. #2024TravelReview #SpainTravel #Extremadura
