A prime example of historicist architecture

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Barcelona (Region) Built in 1851 by architect Elías Rogent, this building is a magnificent example of historicist architecture. Rogent is also known for his restoration work at the University of Barcelona and the Monastery of Ripoll, where he created a work inspired by medieval earthen structures of the western Mediterranean. The prison's architecture features an interesting combination of materials, with a masonry facade forming a semicircle inspired by Jeremy Bentham's panorama models, allowing all cells to be seen from the centre of the courtyard.
