Melk Abbey, along with the entire Wachau Valley, is listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site

Because the drive from Hallstatt to Wien was the longest one we had ever taken since renting a car, it was almost 3.5 hours. We were worried that Brother Zhuan might be tired from driving, so we stopped at Melk Abbey on the way to take a break and take some photos. 📍It is known as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world Stift Melk Melk Abbey: Melk Abbey was founded in 1089. The Baroque building was built between 1702 and 1736 and features exquisite frescoes, and the library houses numerous medieval manuscripts. Because of its fame and academic value, Melk Abbey was spared when Joseph II disbanded many of Austria's monasteries between 1780 and 1790, and escaped the destruction of the Napoleonic Wars. When Germany and Austria merged in 1938, most of the schools and monasteries were nationalized by the Nazis. In 2000, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage along with the entire Wachau Valley. #Melk Abbey
