A Day Trip to Kyoto by the Sea: Amanohashidate, Ine Boathouses, and Miyama Town Exploration

This journey starts from Kyoto city and heads to the northern region known as "Kyoto by the Sea." Here, you can enjoy stunning ocean views and experience the most authentic fishing and mountain village vibes of Japan. A one-day itinerary offers a chance to immerse yourself in a completely different side of Kyoto. Morning | Amanohashidate: One of Japan's Three Scenic Views Arriving early in Miyazu City, I visited Amanohashidate and climbed up to "Kasamatsu Park." Using the classic "upside-down view" pose, I admired the sandbar scenery that truly resembles a bridge hanging upside down in the sky! You can take a cable car or a sightseeing boat to fully enjoy the breathtaking view where the sea meets the sky. Noon | Ine Boathouses: Experience Life in Seaside Homes Next, I headed to Ine Town, famous for its unique boathouse architecture built along the coast. The lower level serves as a boat garage, while the upper level is a living space—both distinctive and dreamy. You can take a sightseeing cruise around Ine Bay to watch seagulls circling and admire the boathouse clusters, which is incredibly soothing. For lunch, I recommend trying fresh seafood rice bowls at a local seafood eatery. Afternoon | Miyama Town: Thatched Roof Houses and Rural Scenery In the evening, I drove to Miyama Town, home to a precious cluster of traditional thatched-roof houses, reminiscent of a fairy tale world. Even just strolling quietly along the countryside paths allows you to feel the charm of Japan's original rural landscape.
