Winter in Moscow, freezing or magical?

Many people choose to visit Moscow in summer because they are afraid of cold, but in my opinion the best time to visit Moscow is December-January. Russia really goes all out on its New Years decorations, everything is lit up and there is a market set up in Red Square, Tverskaya Street and a few more places where you can buy some hot beverages and snacks to keep you warm while taking pictures in front of the fairy lights. They set up an ice skating ring right at the Red Square where you can rent skates and have fun with a stunning views and then get a cocoa at one of the market stalls. If you get really cold, just go to a shopping mall that is located right next door called GUM where you can visit authentic traditional Russian grocery store.
