Tham Piew Cave

On November 24, 1968, a rocket fired by a US warplane struck this cave in central Laos, killing 374 men, women and children. Peow Cave is a large cave that served as a shelter for local communities seeking refuge from a bombing campaign designed to contain Lao Marxists. Today, the cave is only open to the public as a memorial and testament to a harrowing period in Lao history. There is a small interpretation center at the base of the mountain near the parking area that explains the significance of the site from a Lao perspective. #staycation #historicallandmarks
