Phra That Nakhon, the birth day Buddha image for those born on Saturday, is enshrined at Wat Mahathat on Sunthon Wichian Road in Mueang District on the banks of the Mekong River. It is square in shape, following the style of Phra That Phanom. The original was built on two large bases, gradually increasing in order. Each base has a door in the middle, with a lotus-shaped top. There are various designs and patterns on the sides of the doors, such as a vine pattern of flowers and fruits, and the image of the king riding an elephant or horse. From the two large bases, it gradually becomes more pointed and tapering. The center on all four sides is decorated with scattered stars (water chestnut flowers). The height above is shaped like a bookcase, an ancient Tripitaka, and so on. It is made to look like a lotus petal. The top is similar to a lotus bud. From here, it is a seven-tiered yellow copper umbrella. The top of this umbrella has a single cut glass ball at the top. The base is surrounded by walls on all four sides. There are archways on all sides. Above the archways, there are statues of deities sitting in meditation with hands clasped (Phra Phanom), who are the great deities protecting the chedi. At the corners of the wall, there are tall pillars made into lotus buds. On the tops of the pillars outside the walls, there is another layer of chedis.
