Zhan Nan Pavilion in Nan'ao, Shantou

Zhan Nan Pavilion is located in Luzikeng, Nan'ao. From the platform, you can see the whole view of Yun'ao. On a sunny day, with a gentle breeze, you can lean against the green mountains and face the mirror-like sea, with boats passing by and ripples spreading. According to the introduction on the scenic spot's billboard, in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, although Long'ao and Yun'ao were ten miles apart, they were blocked by high mountains and transportation was difficult. There was only a narrow path through the mountainside to maintain the communication between the two bays. The local wise men, considering that the people had nowhere to rest when they passed by, built a simple rain pavilion next to the front bay road for passers-by to shelter from the wind and rain. It was called 'Ming Nan Pavilion', either because people would arrive here at dawn after a long walk, or because the times were hard and the 'long night was hard to clear', 'hoping for dawn' was probably the original intention of the pavilion's name. After the liberation, the two bays were connected by a highway, and the whole journey was paved with cement during the reform and opening up. The transportation between Long'ao and Yun'ao could be reached in an instant. 'Ming Nan Pavilion' retired after its mission was accomplished.
