Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls on the Niagara River in the Great Lakes region of North America. With an average flow of 2,407 cubic meters per second, it is known as one of the world's three largest transnational waterfalls along with Iguazu Falls in South America and Victoria Falls in southern Africa. Niagara Falls is world-famous for its beautiful scenery, huge hydroelectric power capacity and extremely challenging environmental protection projects, and is a very popular tourist attraction. The entire waterfall spans Ontario, Canada and New York, USA, forming the Niagara Gorge in the south. The three waterfalls are, in descending order of size, Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. Among them, the Horseshoe Falls is located on the border between the United States and Canada. The waterfall is 51 meters high and 820 meters wide. It is also called the Canadian Falls. About 90% of the Niagara River flows through the Horseshoe Falls after being diverted for hydroelectric power generation. The American Falls are 260 meters wide and have a drop of 21 to 34 meters. They are all located within the United States and are separated by Goat Island. The American Falls accounts for about 10% of the total water volume of Niagara Falls. Bridal Veil Falls is also located in the United States. The waterfall is 15 meters wide and has a drop of 24 to 31 meters.
