Exploring Paestum

Paestum is an ancient Greek town located in the Campania region of Italy, renowned for its well-preserved Doric temples. With the pre-purchased Campania ArteCard 7-day pass, which allows access to five attractions, the first destination chosen was Paestum. The archaeological site of Paestum was almost entirely abandoned and hidden in the underbrush until road workers discovered it, bringing its three temples back to light. It has since been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The three temples in the Paestum archaeological site are remarkably well-preserved, even surpassing similar structures in Greece. These temples are the Temple of Athena (Tempio di Antena), the Temple of Neptune (Tempio di Nettuno), and the Temple of Hera (Tempio di Hera, the oldest of the three).
