Cruise ship shore excursion ~ Iona Church full of history

#2月好去地方2025 After the Princess Cruises docked at Port Chalmers, we saw a beautiful church on the hillside called Iona Church. It turns out to be full of history ~ On Sunday, October 15, 1848, Reverend Thomas Burns sailed to Port Chalmers to hold the first shore service at a hotel in the port. It was not until 1850 that regular services were held in Dunedin, but not in a church. It was not until 1852 that the first log church was built. In 1857, Port Chalmers became an independent Christian parish with the Rev. Thomas Burns as bishop. Gradually, with donations from the public and the church, the wooden house was transformed into a Gothic church with a pointed tower and stained glass.
