This is the core of a complex covering nearly 700,000 square meters, which will be known as Quzhou Sports Park in Zhejiang Province. Quzhou is a historic city located 400 kilometers southwest of Shanghai, surrounded by dense forests on both sides, its winding exterior reflects the distant ridges, and its landscape evokes the planets imagined by visionary science fiction writers. The cantilevered structure of Quzhou Stadium slowly spirals above the landscape like a halo from a distance, the jewel in the crown of this city's newest. Visitors approach the stadium through one of eight entrances under the canopy, all of which have complex hyperbolic surfaces, rippling like waves overhead. The canopy is supported by only nine drop points, with a maximum span of 95 meters between them, allowing the building to "float" on the landscape and provide a framed view of the city from many angles. The 60 sets of concrete column walls supporting the stadium are made up of bare wood grain white concrete slab walls, bringing a warm texture to this material and blurring the boundary between inside and outside. The interior of the canopy is made up of self-supporting steel, with a semi-transparent luminous film material wrapped around it, capable of presenting the complex geometric shapes required by long-span design. Although the canopy is made up of a huge steel frame, it looks light because the lower half of the structure is wrapped in a translucent synthetic polymer PTFE film, which is made up of micro-perforations to improve the acoustics of the entire stadium. The upper surface of the canopy is made of a sturdier PTFE film to prevent rainwater from entering the seating bowl. The winding geometry continues inside the stadium, where up to 30,000 spectators can occupy the volcano-like interior and catch glimpses of the distant city and mountain landscape. The seats undulate relative to the surrounding landscape, and they are also simulated into a series of green shadows, contrasting visually with the white canopy structure above them.
