The West Lake Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jul)
The Beautiful West Lake in Hangzhou 🇨🇳
The West Lake is located in the city of Hangzhou, China. Here are some tips to have a beautiful day here!
🌟 Walk along the Broken Bridge: After snow in the winter, the bridge appears to be broken but it is only a reflection of the lake and mountain reflecting on each other.
🌟 Go to Leifeng Pagoda for sunset: Climbing to the top of this pagoda gives panoramic views of the entire lake and it’s surroundings. It is especially beautiful at sunset.
🌟 Take a boat cruise around the lake: There are many different boats and cruise tours you can take across the lake. Research online or be spontaneous and choose your route on the day!
🌟 Three Pools Mirroring the Moon: There are three stone pagodas in the water that intertwine with the moonlight! This is also a beautiful area to explore during the day time.
🌟 Su Causeway: Walk along the 2.8km long pathway across the lake. During the springtime you can see the peach blossoms blooming and the green willows. A beautiful photo opportunity!
Overall, visiting the West Lake is a beautiful day out and even if you don’t go to all of these spots, you are still guaranteed to have an incredible day!

Hangzhou West Lake Easy One-Day Tour, Beautiful Scenery and Delicious Food All Worthwhile (Tourist-Friendly Version)
West Lake, it's truly beautiful to the extreme, no matter which season you come, you can appreciate the different charming scenery, and it's never enough! Here is a one-day tour itinerary specially crafted for tourists, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely tour around West Lake in one day, both relaxing and full of beautiful views.
After exiting from Exit C of the Wushan Square subway station, head towards Liulang Wenying, where it's quiet with fewer people and not noisy. Then head to the Qianwang Temple pier to take a boat to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, 55 yuan per person, no reservation needed, just scan the code to buy a ticket, which includes the island entrance ticket and round-trip boat ticket, and it's more cost-effective than buying at Hubin Park. It takes about 15 minutes by boat to reach Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, a great place to take photos that match the 1 yuan RMB note. Then take a boat from Three Pools Mirroring the Moon to the Flower Harbor to watch fish. If you still have energy, you can take a stroll to see the red carp pond, and the lovely mandarin ducks and ducks.
Afterwards, from Flower Harbor, you can choose to walk to Jingci Temple or Leifeng Pagoda. Leifeng Pagoda and Jingci Temple are just across the street from each other, just choose one to visit. Jingci Temple ticket is 10 yuan, Leifeng Pagoda ticket is 40 yuan, I personally recommend Jingci Temple for its tranquil atmosphere. From the higher places of the temple, you can also take pictures of Leifeng Pagoda. Next, you can take the West Lake outer ring bus from Leifeng Pagoda to Xiling Bridge, or take a sightseeing car through the Su Causeway to Yuewang Temple, then walk towards Xiling Bridge. However, the Su Causeway section is two to three kilometers long, and although the scenery is beautiful, I really don't recommend walking the whole way, it will be exhausting!
Xiling Bridge, known as Hangzhou's most beautiful corner, where you can also enjoy the lake and mountain scenery. If you happen to catch the sunset, the 'orange sea' like scenery will appear before your eyes. Then ride from Xiling Bridge to the Broken Bridge, along the way you can enjoy the scenery of Beishan Street, and there are really a lot of people at the Broken Bridge. The Broken Bridge is the last stop of the West Lake tour, it's just an ordinary bridge, if you still have energy you can continue walking forward.
After the tour, you can take a bus back to Hubin Yintai, have dinner nearby, or try different delicacies on Fengqi Road, such as the famous Hang Seng Sisters or Golden Pig Restaurant. After dinner, you can also enjoy the West Lake musical fountain at 7:30 pm.
Around West Lake, there are many delicacies worth trying, such as West Lake Vinegar Fish, with tender fish meat paired with a unique sweet and sour sauce, it's unforgettable; Longjing Shrimp, where the aroma of tea and the freshness of shrimp blend perfectly, the taste is indescribably delicious; there's also Beggar's Chicken, Dongpo Pork, etc. Along the way, there are also many specialty snacks that will satisfy your taste buds. In short, come to West Lake and enjoy this wonderful time!

Day 2: Leave at 7 am ➡️ Wander and take photos of the deserted Wuzhen (Recommended spots: Bridge inside the bridge, Three-inch Golden Lotus Museum entrance +..) ➡️ Caomuben Color Workshop ➡️ Water Market Morning Tea at Yimu Heart Art Gallery
👉【Lifestyle Experience Recommendations】📝
1️⃣Morning Tea
Open from 7 am to 9 am in summer, only guests can experience it~Limited spots, remember to book in advance, if you can't book, you can also go and eat at your own expense
Zhao Ming Night Market: Now there is also a night market, where you can watch the night scene and enjoy the market and opera at the same time◎
2️⃣Mu Xin Art Museum
In the ancient charm-filled Jiangnan water town, there is a modern art museum hidden~Built by the lake, both the exterior and interior design have a modern minimalist aesthetic. The gallery bridge at the entrance, the stairs leading to the lake, the large floor-to-ceiling windows inside, piano, spiral staircase, and corridors are all very photogenic! There are various special exhibitions from time to time for visitors
3️⃣Canal Bank on the Dyke
From the dyke and White Lotus Pagoda, you can enjoy the canal view, the Grand Canal of Beijing-Hangzhou, which has flowed through Wuzhen for a thousand years~Don't miss this opportunity to overlook the ancient canal and the ancient town in Wuzhen, stroll along the canal banks, and feel the beautiful scenery and prosperity from a thousand years ago!
🏨【Accommodation Recommendations】👉
♦️Stay in Xizha for one night, wander the empty streets early in the morning, then join a morning 🍵 tea session, listen to tunes🎶🎶 by the river at the water market, and experience the full charm of Jiangnan💯~
♦️The most recommended accommodation🏡 in Xizha is still on the dyke~Great location and view! Close to White Lotus Pagoda and Bridge inside the bridge🌉, you can directly overlook the White Lotus Pagoda night view🌃 and canal scenery from the outdoor infinity pool🏊🏻♂️ of the sky garden~The accompanying restaurant🍽️ is also great, you can enjoy a rich buffet breakfast, Chinese afternoon tea🍵, and choose between Chinese or Japanese cuisine for dinner, all very delicious!
📣Who doesn't say Jiangnan is good, don't miss the windy🌬️ Wuzhen this summer anymore. Save the Jiangnan🍃🍃 and experience the unique summer life of the ancient canal town once🌴
Wuzhen, a place like a dreamy fantasy
With each step taken in the gentle glow, history echoes beneath your feet.
A poetic dwelling, is also a serene glance back, Wuzhen in summer, is a wordless prose poem.
Wuzhen, the water town! Always fresh with every visit! This time I flew 1000 kilometers specifically to spend the summer in Wuzhen!
For a bowl of scholar's lamb noodles, and for the fun and beautiful summer activities in Wuzhen.
Drinking tea beside the old street, splashing water and playing in the water lanes,
Eating a meal to cool off under the sunset while enjoying the evening breeze by the canal,
Even watching a play in the courtyard of an old house at night to catch the cool breeze!
It's completely a brand new experience!
Not only that, but you also shouldn't miss the night tour of the Mu Xin Art Museum and the former residences of celebrities in Wuzhen East Gate!
The tall pole boat is very exciting! Such a treasure of a town is worth traveling far for once!
Wuzhen: With the phrase 'Spring is not late,' I have arrived at the true Jiangnan
May in Jiangnan is filled with misty rain🌧️
You watch the scenery under the bridge, while I watch you from above.
The paulownia flowers in Wuzhen bloom this season
The trees are covered with white blossoms, devoid of leaves🍃
The branches stretch over the river, reflecting a springtime scene🌸
Wuzhen is divided into four districts: east, south, west, and north.
The west and east districts are larger in area, with the most attractions. Since the scenic area is under unified management, within the same type of street in the scenic area, you won't find a second store of the same kind, ensuring a worry-free and enjoyable visit to the shops and area~
The south and north districts are mostly inhabited by locals, free of charge, but relatively small. The private home-style dishes in the south district are quite good.
The weather today is so-so, with occasional showers🌦️
But Wuzhen in the rain has a unique charm
White walls and black tiles, misty and hazy
It's the Jiangnan from the Song Dynasty that I once read about in books
In the off-season, Wuzhen has only a few scattered tourists
It's like having this poetic water town atmosphere all to oneself
Comfortable, leisurely, healing, and soothing❤️
Jiangnan in May is truly divine, offering a travel guide that avoids the crowds

Weekend Exploration: Misty Rain in Jiangnan, Encounter with the Ancient Town of Nanxun🍃
I chose a spontaneous short trip, with the charming Nanxun Ancient Town as my destination. On Friday evening, I boarded the train to Huzhou, filled with anticipation.
📍First Impressions of Huzhou
I arrived in Huzhou at six o'clock on Friday night. I first explored Xiaoxi Street and Yishang Street, but the somewhat bland streetscapes and crowded snack streets left me a bit disappointed. 😔 The food at Zhou Sheng Ji was not to my taste, and while the Pangu Pig's Trotters were passable, the overall experience was mediocre. 🍜 If time allowed, I might recommend you to visit the Fisherman's Wharf and Taihu Ancient Town to experience the charm of Huzhou's night.
📍Nanxun Ancient Town: Serenity in Time
Early Saturday morning, I took a rideshare to the long-awaited Nanxun Ancient Town. The takeaway breakfast of Zifan rice balls was a delightful surprise, tasty and satisfying. 🍙 Then, I headed straight to the makeup shop 'Bridge Side Girl' and transformed into a woman with flowers in her hair. Although the makeup process was assembly-line style, the effect was decent enough to immerse me in the charm of the ancient town.
The Longfeng Noodle House in the ancient town was bustling, but I opted for a simple roadside snack, the sweet aroma of Shuangjiao noodles gave me a taste of the unique Jiangsu and Zhejiang flavors. 🍜 In the afternoon, I enjoyed tea and the view at Chunlan Tea House, where the three-course tea and Dingsheng cake allowed me to feel the tranquility and harmony of the ancient town. 🍵 The warmth and kindness of the grandfatherly figure made me feel even more at home.
📸Baijianlou: The Quiet Beauty of the Ancient Town
Baijianlou is a residential area of the ancient town, quiet and beautiful. I strolled along the river, taking photos as I walked, soaking in the ancient town's charm. 📷 There were tea houses and restaurants by the river, and I chose Aunt Yang's place, where a corner seat allowed me to capture the beautiful view of the bridge. 🌉 The stir-fried dishes for dinner were tasty, making me take a second look at the town's cuisine.
As night fell, the ancient town lit up, and I returned to my hotel early to rest, looking forward to the next morning's scenery. 🏨
🌅The Ancient Town in the Morning: A Scroll of Ink Painting
On Saturday morning, I got up early and walked the streets of the ancient town. The town is most beautiful around five or six o'clock, with the first light of dawn piercing through the mist, a delightful surprise. 🌅 The ancient town seemed like a scroll of ink painting, with the lake as calm as a mirror, reflecting the ancient and weathered houses, as if time had stood still here.
Along the way, I entered the hard-to-find coffee shop, where the aroma of coffee and the interior decor made me linger. The taste of the rice-scented latte was unforgettable, and I even asked the owner for the recipe afterward. ☕
As the sun rose, the number of tourists in the ancient town gradually increased. I wandered around, feeling the hustle and bustle of the ancient town. After lunch, I boarded the return train with a heart full of memories and some delicious pastries. 🚄
This trip to Nanxun allowed me to experience the charm of the Jiangnan water towns and the quiet beauty of the ancient town. Although I had some hesitations before, I truly feel it was worth the visit. 💖 I will come back to experience Nanxun in different seasons and feel its unique charm. 🌸
If you ask where Jiangnan is, follow the path south to Nanxun
In the early summer, the ancient town of Nanxun is like an ink painting, serene and content. The tranquility of the old town and the sediment of time make one feel as if they have traveled through time and space, back to that pure era.
Let's hold hands and go to the ancient town of Nanxun, following the winding rivers, wandering through the ancient Baijian Building, with its simple white walls and green tiles, weeping willows and fresh flowers, small bridges over flowing water, and hand-rowed boats... The intoxicating lifestyle of the Jiangnan water towns hits you in the face!
Nanxun impression is first and foremost the charm of the water towns, but the 'air of wealth' is particularly strong. It is from these famous historical residences, private gardens, and legends of the wealthy that one feels the 'richness'. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, when most of the Chinese commoners were still worrying about food, the people of Nanxun had already emerged as a wealthy group known as 'four elephants, eight oxen, and seventy-two golden dogs', who took their business beyond the country's borders and began to participate in and influence politics. Thus, the rich became richer, generation after generation, producing a lineage of elites.

Xitang Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jul)
The Beauty of Xitang Unveiled
Next, we visited Xitang, a charming water village approximately an hour's drive from Wuzhen. Compared to Wuzhen, Xitang is better maintained and attracts a larger number of tourists. The town is famous for its over 100 ancient alleys paved with stone slabs, where visitors can easily lose themselves in exploration. Xitang is also known for its numerous old bridges, offering picturesque views of the scenic river.
In Xitang, there are numerous activities to enjoy, from exploring various museums to dressing up in traditional Han costumes for photos against the backdrop of ancient buildings. Visitors can also take a scenic boat ride down the river, offering a unique perspective of the town's beauty.
Our day in Xitang was packed with fun and excitement, but it felt too short to fully appreciate everything the town has to offer. For a more leisurely experience, we suggest spending a night in Xitang, allowing for a more relaxed exploration and enjoyment of this enchanting place.
Tour package (Wuzhen and Xitang) includes transport and entrance tickets to both places
Price: 268 RMB (SGD$50) per pax
