Courtyard Shanghai Pudong: A Stay with Both Advantages and Disadvantages I recently stayed at the Courtyard Shanghai Pudong due to travel needs and had a mixed experience. I. Convenient Location The hotel is located on Weifang Road, next to Pudong's Century Avenue, surrounded by subway lines 2, 4, 6, and 9. It offers easy access to Lujiazui, The Bund, and Pudong Airport. 96 Plaza is downstairs, and Century Link is across the street. There are also McDonald's, FamilyMart, and other options nearby, making dining and shopping convenient and meeting the basic needs of business travelers. The walk to the subway station takes about 6–7 minutes, which isn't a major inconvenience for travel. II. 🏘️️️Slightly Cramped Room Layout I stayed in an executive king room. The room was relatively small, only about 20+ square meters, and felt quite cramped. The layout of both the sleeping area and the bathroom was not spacious, making movement in the bathroom a bit tight. However, the functional areas of the room were reasonably well-defined, meeting basic needs. III. 🛌Amenities and Facilities Need Improvement The overall facilities in the room felt somewhat outdated, showing their age, which matched the surrounding environment. The TV was small, and the viewing experience was average. When I inquired about the location of the toothbrush, the front desk informed me it was in the safe. While claiming to be eco-friendly, this approach felt a bit absurd. However, the soundproofing was quite good, effectively blocking outside noise, and the hygiene was well-maintained, with the room kept clean. The hotel has a standard gym and a large conference room, catering to business and fitness needs. IV. 🍱Dining Experience with Both Highlights and Shortcomings Breakfast is served on the first floor and ends at 10:30 am. When I went down at around 9:40 am, there wasn't much food left, and the replenishment wasn't timely. The overall quality was average, falling short of Marriott standards. However, the two Starbucks coffee vouchers provided upon check-in added points to the breakfast experience. Although it was a self-service Starbucks, it enhanced the breakfast. The Executive Lounge was recently only open for dinner. Afternoon tea could only be enjoyed with some beverages in the lobby lounge on the first floor, with no pastries. The lounge dinner (happy hour) was excellent, with a variety of hot dishes, pastries, drinks, fruits, and cold cuts. The tofu seafood rolls on the cold platter were particularly delicious. Breakfast offered omelets and a variety of noodles. The black pepper chicken was seasoned well, but some hot dishes were the same as those served at the lounge dinner. V. 💰️Cost-Effectiveness Analysis The weekend price is generally around 500 per night. Considering the dining options and location advantages, the price-performance ratio is decent. However, if you're looking for newer facilities and more spacious rooms, hotels like JI Hotel and Orange Hotel might be better choices at the same price point. VI. Inconsistent Service Quality The service was average. The Platinum member upgrade only resulted in a higher floor, not a larger room. I checked in late and didn't receive a welcome fruit platter until I left. These details indicate that the service quality needs improvement. However, the staff was friendly when addressing issues. VII. 💗Other Practical Tips If you're in transit or have urgent needs, the hotel's location and surrounding amenities meet basic requirements. However, if you have higher expectations for accommodation and service quality, it's recommended to compare other options in the area. Communicate your room preferences in advance for a better stay. Overall, the Courtyard Shanghai Pudong has a convenient location and some good dining options, but there are shortcomings in facilities and service. You can decide whether to stay here based on your own needs.
