The Site of Shangrao Concentration Camp

The Site of Shangrao Concentration Camp is located at No. 66 Lingyuan Road, Xinzhou District, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, covering an area of 2 square kilometers. The Shangrao Concentration Camp refers to the fascist concentration camp established by the Kuomintang's Military Statistics Bureau in Shangrao, Jiangxi. The camp consisted of several sites including Qifengyan, Zhoutian Village, Maojialing, and Li Village, all located near Shangrao, hence collectively referred to as 'Shangrao Concentration Camp'. The site of the former camp is composed of four major areas for visitors to tour: the central scenic area, the old Zhoutian Prison site, the old Li Village Prison site, and the old Qifengyan Prison site. In 1955, the Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery was established, and since then, several commemorative structures such as the Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery, monuments, memorial halls, and pavilions have been built. The Shangrao Concentration Camp serves as a historical textbook of the revolutionary forebears' struggle against the enemy and is also a revolutionary legacy and spiritual wealth left to future generations by the martyrs. The Qifengyan Ancient Zen Temple, Gexian Temple, Zhuge Ancestral Hall, and the old site of the Fourth Squadron are all buildings from the late Qing Dynasty to the early years of the Republic of China, possessing historical and artistic value. On January 13, 1988, the Site of Shangrao Concentration Camp was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the third batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units; on February 1, 2009, the Shangrao Concentration Camp was approved as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
