| Shenyang Imperial Palace. Also known as Shengjing Imperial Palace, it served as the imperial palace in the early Qing Dynasty. It's one of the two largest surviving royal palace complexes in China and a must-visit destination in Shenyang. The entire Shenyang Imperial Palace isn't very large; it feels like a miniature version of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It's also divided into East, Middle, and West routes, which you can explore in a serpentine path, completing the visit in about half a day. The Middle Route follows the same front-court and back-palace layout as the Forbidden City, but uniquely, the palace is built on a raised platform, creating a distinct Manchu architectural style where the surrounding wall is higher than the palace buildings.
