Isle of Harris

In the very north of Scotland, there are some islands called Lewis and Harris. Harris is famous for its beaches. A beautiful places overall. You need a car to get there and it’s the most convenient way to get around. You can see some highland cows and sheep. It’s a beautiful place to be at on a sunny day. You need a few days to explore the whole area but one full day for visiting the beaches is enough. How to get there: take a ferry from Ullapool to the isles.

Calanais

The Calanais standing stones are one of the most magnificent and best preserved Neolithic monuments that were erected 5000 years ago. It was 27 kilometers 26 minutes drive from Stornoway harbour or bus W2 plus 10 minutes walk. The stones are free to go in and open 24 hours. Beside the stones is the visitor centre is home to an exhibition, cafe and gift shop. The cafe is a perfect place to relax with a stunning view of Loch Roag. For the stones mystery surrounds its exact purpose, although much of the evidence indicates that these stones will be the sites of both astronomical observation and rituals activities.

Stornoway

Stornoway is the main town of western Isle and the capital of Lewis and Harris, Scotland. It is the largest town in the outer hebrides, as well as the third largest town after Kirkwall in Orkney and Lerwick in Shetland. The ferry to and from Ullapool takes 2 hours and 45 minutes. The town is easy to walk around, a coop and tesco supermarket just walking distance. Harbour kitchen serves good food but you need to have your reservation, their fried whitebait is nice and crispy, it is situated just opposite the town hall.
