Thailand has stories to tell.

🛕☘️Wat Sri Chum, Phra Atchana, Sukhothai Historical Park (or Wat Poi Dam, it is assumed to have been built during the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng. It appears in the first Sukhothai Inscription that "At the foot of the bed of Sukhothai here ... root vegetable ... there is Phra Atchana, there is a castle." From this sentence, nothing confuses us except the word "root vegetable". In fact, "Wat Sri Chum", which is also called "Ha Bia", comes from the original Thai word "root vegetable", which means Bodhi tree. Therefore, the name "Sri Chum" means a grove of Bodhi trees. But in the Chronicles of Ayutthaya, written in the late Ayutthaya period, this meaning was not understood, so the place was called "Rishi Chum". The principal Buddha image in the pavilion is therefore named "Phra Atchana". The word "Atchana" has a meaning in Pali. “Ajala” is a pavilion with a width of 32 meters on each side and a height of 15 meters. The walls are 3 meters thick. The left wall has a hole for a staircase. The wall leads to the roof. There are old paintings on the walls of the tunnel but almost all of them are faded. These paintings are almost 700 years old. The ceiling and walls have 50 slate slabs carved with lines depicting stories from the Jataka tales, arranged continuously. All of these are considered the oldest Thai paintings in the Ayutthaya period. When King Naresuan the Great declared independence in 2127 at Kraeng, the other cities stopped paying tribute to Burma. However, there was still Chiang Rai or Sawankhalok that refused to comply with his royal command. He therefore led his army to conquer Chiang Rai and gathered at Wat Si Chum before attacking Chiang Rai. Since the battle was between Thais and Thais, the soldiers were not motivated to fight. King Naresuan therefore planned to boost the soldiers’ morale by having one of them climb a ladder to the back of the Buddha statue and give them words of encouragement. This gave soldiers the courage to fight. This is why the legend of the “talking monk” at Wat Sri Chum arose. King Naresuan also held the water-pouring oath-taking ceremony at this temple. Evidence indicates that this temple underwent a major renovation during the reign of King Lithai, and has been continuously maintained. It is assumed that this temple was abandoned during the late Ayutthaya period. Until the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, there was a renovation project. #NortheasternTeam
