Taipei｜From a century-old sake brewery to the art and cultural district, the beauty of light and shadow at Huashan 1914

I really like to visit Huashan when I have nothing to do, especially the light and shadow of the sun shining on the century-old buildings, which makes people wonder what Huashan looked like a hundred years ago. During the Japanese occupation, this place was originally a camphor field and a brewery. In 1914, Japanese Abe San'o and Fujimoto Tetsuji founded the Fangniang Company here to brew and produce Phalaenopsis Japanese sake. Due to the rising sales, at its most glorious period, there were more than 400 workers here, making it the largest sake factory in Taiwan. Later, the name of the town was changed to liquor monopoly, and this place became the Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau of Karayama Town. With the end of World War II, it became the First Winery of the Monopoly Bureau. However, with the development of the city, the problem of water pollution from brewing in the downtown area has not been solved. Finally, the factory was moved to Linkou, and the Rikpai factory was abandoned. It was not until 1999 that this place was officially transformed into the Huashan Art and Culture District. In the past four or five years, thousands of art and cultural events have made Huashan the most artistic place in Taipei. It was only after it was officially transformed into a private enterprise that it began to develop cultural and creative industries and commercial vitality. From the red-brick Liuheyuan to the Art Street, an area of ​​more than 70,000 square meters has become a venue for art markets, street artist performances, and cultural and artistic products.
