Takachiho Gorge

Located where the lava from the ancient Aso volcano's eruptions flowed, it forms a spectacular columnar jointed cliff gorge along the Gokase River. The beauty of this place always allows one to feel the charm of nature. Near Takachiho Gorge, there are many attractions that let visitors experience the origins of Japanese mythology. Notably, the 'Amano Iwato Shrine' and the annual 'Yokagura' festival evoke a sense of the sacred and the mysterious. Moreover, Takachiho Gorge presents different sceneries in each season, whether it be the cherry blossoms in spring, the verdure in summer, the red maple leaves in autumn, or the snowy landscape in winter, each is breathtaking. When visiting Takachiho Gorge, I particularly love the magnificent view of the 'Manai Falls,' a waterfall that stands 17 meters tall and is truly awe-inspiring.
