Catching Sunrise at Mt. Bromo by 4WD

#familytravel This trip was an exciting one, as I carried my 11 months-old baby across the Sea of Sand, at 3 am bouncing in a jeep-like mobile upwards to one of the viewing points of Broko Tengger Semeru Nasional Park. The journey started at 2.30 am from our Bromo hotel location, joined by seemingly hundreds, if not thousands of other similar vehicles. The temperature at the hotel then was already around 10°C. And it’s only about to get colder as we reach the top. It’s an experience in itself. The jeep ride, up and down the curvy road, around us was pitch black; not even a single road light in the National Park. My baby in my lap, sleeping so deeply like she’s in her rocker. My baby slept through all that drive, and all the way as I climbed a hundred steps to the viewing point. Only waking up to enjoy the view with us when it’s bright. From there, we appreciated the magnificent view of the volcanic area. The caldera is so huge, it’s unimaginable that once upon a time, there was an explosion this massive.
