CAMERON ROBBINS

National key cultural relics protection unit

The minaret of the Liberation South Road Mosque in Baytura is a national key cultural relics protection unit. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, after the Qing government quelled the Zhunzhu'er Rebellion and the Dazhao Rebellion in Xinjiang, in the 27th year of Qianlong (1764), it built Ningyuan City (now Yining City) and appointed Maosa, the son of Emin and Zhuo, as the first Akimu Burke to govern the Uighur people who moved to Ili for farming from southern and eastern Xinjiang. In respect of the religious beliefs of the Uighur people who moved to Ili, the Qing government invested 10,000 taels of silver from the national treasury and built this large-scale Liberation South Road Mosque in the center of Ningyuan City in the 38th year of Qianlong (1773). The mosque consists of a minaret, a mountain gate, a prayer hall, and a lecture hall. Now except for the minaret, other buildings have been demolished. The minaret is a three-story double-eave Xieshan top high-rise wooden structure pavilion, reflecting the traditional architectural style of the Central Plains.
