Dinan travel guide and discussion

Strolling through the atmospheric streets of Dinan, you can't miss the legendary Basilique Saint-Sauveur (Pl. Saint-Sauveur, 22100 Dinan, France, usually open 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM). This basilica is a true veteran of history—it’s nearly 900 years old! ⛪️🇫🇷 What’s even cooler is that the building isn't just a snapshot of one era; it’s a mix of Romanesque vibes, rich Gothic style, and modern touches. That’s because it’s been restored and expanded in almost every century. Inside, it’s a visual explosion: massive stone vaults, stained glass, ancient altars, and a wooden ceiling... Looking up, you really feel like you’ve stepped back in time! 😍 Step in from the bustling tourist streets, and in seconds, you’re enveloped in absolute silence and a unique historical magic. It even houses the heart of Bertrand du Guesclin—a legendary 14th-century French commander and a true icon of Brittany. Basilique Saint-Sauveur isn’t just a stunning church; it’s nine centuries of history and adventure. Definitely step inside if you’re in Dinan—it’s beautiful on the outside, but the interior is truly mind-blowing! ❤️ Let us know in the comments: do you like exploring the inside of ancient churches, or do you prefer just admiring the architecture from the outside?

France isn’t only Paris, Provence and the Riviera. Some of its prettiest places are tiny villages that feel like they’ve been pulled straight from a storybook. 🏡 Eguisheim Colourful half-timbered houses, flower-filled lanes and winding streets make this one of Alsace’s prettiest villages. 🌿 Rochefort-en-Terre Stone houses, beautiful gardens and medieval architecture give this village a seriously romantic feel. 💜 Saignon A quieter Provençal gem surrounded by countryside and lavender fields, perfect if you want something peaceful and less touristy. ⛵ Dinan Historic streets, timber-framed houses and a gorgeous riverside harbour make Dinan one of Brittany’s most atmospheric towns. 🏰 Saint-Cirq-Lapopie Built dramatically above the Lot River, this medieval village is packed with stone houses, steep lanes and incredible views. ✨ Extra tip: These villages are spread across different regions of France, so don’t try to squeeze them all into one trip. Pick one area and build a slower road trip around it. That’s the best way to actually enjoy them. Which one would you choose for a weekend escape? 👀🇫🇷 #France #FrenchVillages #Eguisheim #RochefortEnTerre #Saignon #Dinan #SaintCirqLapopie #FranceTravel #HiddenFrance #EuropeTravel #FairytaleVillage #Tripcom

I went on four trips with Dinan, and they allowed me to explore the entire island as a solo female traveler. It was an amazing experience, and I was very pleased with his services from start to finish. Dinan quickly understood exactly what I was looking for. Being an experienced traveler with specific expectations, I appreciated how he grasped the type of places, experiences, and food I wanted to explore. I’m especially thankful for how he tailored the tours to my interests and took me away from the usual tourist spots. At my request, he introduced me to excellent Indian restaurants and gorgeous local beaches, which I loved. Dinan is punctual, professional, friendly, and highly knowledgeable about the island, so I gained a lot of insight from my trips with him. Honestly, exploring the island on my own with a rental car wouldn’t have given me the same experience. His car was spacious, very comfortable, and he drove safely, which made me feel completely at ease as a solo female traveler. I enthusiastically recommend Dinan and will definitely suggest him to any friends visiting the island.

I stumbled upon this restaurant by accident. The CP value is really high! ! All are handmade meals 👍👍👍👍👍 This is very important‼ ️ From appetizers to main courses to desserts Every dish is delicious This is the best food I've had in Brittany. The price is also very affordable There is no free children's meal You can choose a pot of mussels or fried fish You can choose mussels as a whole, which is a big plus

Crêperie Le Connétable I ordered an egg and cheese galette (6.8€). It was inexpensive, the service was very friendly, and the galette was delicious, so I was very satisfied. If you're in Saint-Malo, be sure to stop by! #0yentravelNovember

Middle Ages | Little Britain By mistake I came all the way from Saint-Malo in the morning, and when I got there, I found it was just an ordinary European town. There were no cobblestone streets. After careful checking, I realized that I had accidentally arrived at the new town of Dinant. That’s what Google Location does. After repositioning ourselves, passing the castle gate and a section of city wall under repair, we saw a large parking lot and a tourist information center in front of us. With a guide map, you won't be nervous. You can follow the map and plan your itinerary in advance. Although the destination may lose some mystery, you won't go wrong in the end. Statue of Bertrand du Guesclin I was using the public toilet next to the parking lot and saw his statue. This location is really not very grand. He was known as the "Eagle of Brittany" and was an outstanding military leader and national hero in the early days of the Hundred Years' War in France. He died of dysentery during a military expedition in 1380 and was buried in the Basilica of Saint-Denis for the Kings of France; his heart is deposited in the church of Saint-Sauveur at Dinant. The French like to do this, separating the "body" and the "mind". Tour de l'Horloge bell tower It is very conspicuous. Although it is only more than 45 meters, it can be seen from a distance. I queued up but didn't reach the top, missing the chance to have a bird's eye view of Dinant, which was a pity. Crêperie Pizzéria d'Armor S.A.R.L I didn’t order crepes. I had them in Saint-Malo and didn’t like them very much. They were not as satisfying as the cannoli. There is an exquisite and lovely second-hand jewelry store opposite. I waited for a long time, but the owner still didn't come back, which was a pity. Saint-Malo and Dinan Eglise There are two Catholic churches very close to each other, and their stained glass windows are very gorgeous. Strolling in the ancient alley Walking northeast from the clock tower is La rue du Jerzual. The closer to the river, the steeper the slope becomes, and you will reach Petit-Fort ancient lane. On both sides are typical Breton buildings with exposed wooden structures painted in different colors, which look a bit like underwear worn outside. The weather cleared up at this time. Walking along the cobblestone road towards the river, some small shops are also artists' studios. Through the windows, you can see unfinished manuscripts on the desks. The sun was shining brighter and brighter, and the streets were mostly filled with tourists, walking slowly. Imagine Anne, Duchess of Brittany's carriage clattering down this cobblestone road.

Dinan may be not very well known place in the tourist circuit. But during my time spent in Britanny. This medieval town quickly became by favourite stop in Brittany. What a fantastic local on the hillside and overlooking a river. Best part, it has some of the finest architecture that is there in Brittany. I was so overjoyed by the atmosphere and sight of the historic centre. Those cobbled streets, half timbered houses, impressive monuments, art galleries, craft shops and so much more. Walking by the rampart offers such fine views and chateau Dinan is gorgeous. During our time here I remember visiting several other impressive landmarks like the basilica of st. saveur and st. Malo church. There is a beautiful rue de petit street lined up with artistic shops. Food too was beyond good and that is just one other reason to holiday in Dinan. #myhiddengems #dinan #summerdestinations #france

Dinan Cote Darmor Bretagne A very charming white town centered around a white church, surrounded by greenery and rocks, with a beach for rest. Region: Charente-Maritime Route: Train from Montparnasse to La Rochelle, then you can take another train or bus from La Rochelle to Ars-en-Re. Route: From Paris Montparnasse train station to Rennes. Then take another train to Dol de Bretagne and finally a train to Dinan. PS Although it requires changing trains three times, all changes are at the same station, which is quite convenient. The scenery along the way is also good, with a total duration of about three hours.
