📍Taronga Western Plains Zoo Part 1☘️☘️☘️ 🌅 The best time to see the animals is in the morning! Dubbo Zoo, with its vast safari-style habitat, was a wonderful place to enjoy the majestic Australian atmosphere. However, we arrived in the afternoon, and many of the animals were napping in the shade... It was a bit disappointing not to see much of the animals in action. We also had to return our rental bikes before closing, so we had to keep an eye on the time...😭 It was a bit hectic! 👉 Next time, it's best to arrive right after opening (in the morning)! Part 2☘️☘️☘️ 🚴♀️ Cycle around the zoo! But make sure to drink plenty of water! You can explore the zoo by foot, bicycle, car, or electric cart. This time, I chose cycling, which eliminates the need to stop every time. Feeling the breeze while cycling felt great, and it was also a great workout. ⚠️However, the zoo is very large and has many ups and downs, so it requires more stamina than you'd expect. The drinks I brought with me ran out midway through, making the second half a bit tougher. 👉 Lessons learned: Bring plenty of water! 💦 There are picnic areas and benches scattered around, so I recommend taking breaks in the shade. 📍Trip Overview Day 1 We visited Taronga Western Plains Zoo just after 1:00 PM. It was a weekday afternoon, so there weren't many people there. Perhaps because we arrived late, the animals were napping or barely moving. Arriving early for opening time might be even more enjoyable, allowing you to see the more active animals! The zoo is large, so we decided to rent bicycles to explore! It's great exercise for cyclists! This is a fun zoo where you can see the animals up close! Day 2 Walking around Dubbo Regional Botanic Gardens. We spent some quiet time enjoying the flowers blooming in the Japanese garden. The variety of plants planted was very interesting!

Over 1,000 animals from all around the world at Australia’s greatest open-range zoo. 300 hectares with the option to drive your own car around, hire bike/carts or walk around the zoo (though I don’t recommend walking it as it’s a real big zoo). You can hire the bikes and carts at the entrance of the zoo. The zoo also offers lodges and camps for overnight stays and private tours around the zoo. Easy to get to if catching the countrylink (regional) trains from Sydney CBD central station to Dubbo (around 5.5hrs train ride) which passes through the Aussie outback and regional areas.
