Somerset Feels Like A Hidden Fairytale 🌺
#underratedspots
Somerset feels like the England people forget to talk about. The magic is in little streets, stone villages and places that still feel like a discovery.
📍 Frome
Start at Catherine Hill and wander the independent shops. The High Pavement is a top rated food stop nearby. Exploring is free.
📍 Montacute
Montacute House feels out of a period film. Adult entry is £15 without Gift Aid in 2026. The gardens are the photo moment.
📍 Burrow Mump
Free to visit and one of those tiny Somerset spots that looks unreal at golden hour. It has Saxon, Norman and medieval history.
📍 Dunster
Walk the medieval village, then head to Dunster Castle. Adult entry is £19 without Gift Aid and parking is £6.50 per car.
📍 Cheddar Gorge
Go early for quieter gorge views. Day tickets start from £23.30 online. The cliffs are free to view, so the landscape is still free.

Watchet Harbour Somerset
#sailing boat ⛵ #steam train #sea shanties #staycation Watchet is generally considered worth visiting. It's a charming coastal town with a rich history and a variety of attractions. Watchet is a small but lively and picturesque harbour town (population around 4,000) situated on the Bristol Channel coast. It has a strong maritime history dating back 1,000 years, and as such has many stories connected with vikings, pirates, Romantic poets and sea shanties.
The town offers scenic coastal views and is a good base for exploring the Exmoor National Park.
Steam Trains:
Watchet has a railway station with steam trains, adding to its heritage appeal.
I love Watchet. It is a charming little coastal town with an active Marina, excellent holiday accommodation, an Old Port, quaint houses and shops. The picturesque village of Dunster is just a short distance away. Plenty of interesting places to visit the North Somerset area. The South West coast path starts in Minehead. Home of the famous Butlins holiday camp.

Dunster Castle was great 🇬🇧
#uktrip
Visiting Dunster Castle in Minehead was like stepping back in time! 🏰 This stunning medieval fortress, perched on a hill, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the Bristol Channel. The entrance fee was around £14, which I found to be quite reasonable for everything it offered. As I walked through the ancient halls and explored the beautiful rooms filled with antique furniture and historic artifacts, I couldn't help but imagine the stories and lives of the people who lived here. The castle also has a lovely garden, which was perfect for a peaceful stroll 🌸🌳.
One of the highlights was the picturesque watermill at the foot of the castle, still working and grinding flour today! It was fascinating to watch the mill in action and learn about its history. Nearby attractions include the charming village of Dunster itself, with its old-world charm, cobbled streets, and delightful tea rooms 🍰. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Exmoor National Park is also close by, offering great hiking trails and opportunities to see some of the UK’s best wildlife.
