🚴🇳🇴 One of the most incredible bike rides I've ever done — cycling from Myrdal down towards Flåm through some of Norway's most spectacular scenery. For the first couple of minutes, everything was absolutely perfect. The mountains, waterfalls and valley views were unreal, and this felt like one of those travel experiences I'll never forget. Then… things didn't quite go according to plan. 😂 I'll let the video speak for itself, but I promise I'm absolutely fine! Now I'm genuinely curious: **was this just bad luck, or did I get a little too confident? 😂** And the more important question… **Would you have carried on cycling after this? 🚴👇** 📍 Myrdal → Flåm, Norway 🇳🇴 #norway #Flåm #myrdal #norwaytravel #cyclingnorway #adventuretravel #travelmoments #tripcom

Chasing autumn colors through the fjords of Flåm 🍁🏔️ A little escape into Norway’s quiet beauty. 🇳🇴✨ #fallcolors

Norway looks easy on the map—but the western fjords and Lofoten belong to two very different travel systems. The real decision is not simply “Flåm or Lofoten?” It is whether to complete the southern rail-and-fjord route—or commit enough additional days to Lofoten as a separate northern region. 🧭 WHAT FITS? 5 USABLE DAYS — OSLO + BERGEN 🏙️ 2 full Oslo days 🚆 1 complete Bergen Line transfer day 🌆 2 full Bergen days This is already a complete first Norway route. The Bergen Line is part of the experience, but it is still a hotel-change day—not a free Oslo or Bergen sightseeing day. 🌊 7 USABLE DAYS — ADD THE WESTERN FJORDS 🏙️ Oslo: 2 full days 🚆 Oslo → Myrdal → Flåm: 1 transfer day 🏔️ Western fjords: 1 complete local day ⛴️ Fjord base → Nærøyfjord → Gudvangen → Voss → Bergen: 1 transfer day 🌆 Bergen: 2 full days Protect two nights in either Flåm or Aurland. One night breaks up the journey. Two nights create a real fjord stay with one complete non-transfer day. Important: the Bergen Line does not run through Flåm. Change at Myrdal for the Flåm Railway. Aurland then requires a separate local transfer. ✈️ 12 USABLE DAYS — OSLO + BERGEN + LOFOTEN 🏙️ Oslo: 2 full days 🚆 Bergen Line: 1 day 🌆 Bergen: 2 full days ✈️ Lofoten arrival and positioning: 1 day 🏔️ Lofoten: 5 full days 🧳 Lofoten exit or gateway: 1 day This route does not include a complete Flåm or western-fjord stay. A short flight does not make Lofoten a short add-on. Airport transfers, baggage, car or bus collection and island road time can consume most of the arrival day. 🌊 + 🏔️ 14 USABLE DAYS — WESTERN FJORDS + LOFOTEN This is the stronger route for travellers who genuinely want both regions. It protects: ✅ 2 full Oslo days ✅ 2 western-fjord nights ✅ 1 complete fjord day ✅ 2 full Bergen days ✅ Separate Lofoten arrival and exit days ✅ 5 full Lofoten days Expect four major transfer days and four to five accommodation bases. Day 14 is the Lofoten exit or gateway day—not a protected weather-buffer day. For complex winter travel, weak flight connections, two Lofoten bases or a genuine disruption buffer, allow at least 15 usable days. 🚉 FLÅM OR AURLAND? FLÅM suits travellers prioritising: · Flåm Railway access · Cruise boarding · Minimal transfer friction AURLAND suits travellers prioritising: · Quieter evenings · A stay beyond the main transport hub But Aurland is not on the Flåm Railway. Confirm the local shuttle, bus, taxi or boat connection for the actual travel dates. 🗺️ WHICH LOFOTEN GATEWAY? EVENES Best for eastern Lofoten, Svolvær-first routes and broader rental-car choice. It remains on the mainland. BODØ–MOSKENES FERRY Best for western Lofoten, Reine or Hamnøy first, and west-to-east progression. Recheck the timetable, capacity and current reporting rules. LEKNES A strong central-airport option for balanced island positioning. SVOLVÆR Useful for eastern Lofoten, guided activities and lower-driving routes. Tromsø is a separate Arctic city—not a Lofoten accommodation base. 🚗 CAR OR NO CAR? No-car Lofoten can work when: · One practical base is selected · Accommodation is close to useful transport · Current Route 300 and local timetables are checked · The itinerary does not attempt every famous viewpoint A partial Lofoten rental car remains the strongest mainstream choice for dispersed villages, beaches, luggage and weather-led changes. A full-route Norway rental car is usually unnecessary. 🛏️ ONE OR TWO LOFOTEN BASES? One base is strongest for five to six usable days. · Svolvær: eastern services and guided trips · Leknes: central positioning · Reine or Hamnøy: western scenery Two bases become more useful from seven usable Lofoten days. Keep at least two nights per base and move progressively toward the final exit gateway. ❄️ SEASON CHANGES THE ROUTE Summer usually offers longer daylight and broader transport options—but also higher accommodation and rental-car pressure. Winter needs fewer bases, shorter driving distances and more conservative flight, ferry and road planning. Northern Lights require darkness, clear skies and suitable solar activity. They are never guaranteed. 📌 FINAL RULE The western fjords need a complete fjord day—not only scenery seen between transfers. Lofoten needs at least four full island days outside the arrival and exit days. Choose the route first. Then lock the gateways, accommodation, transport and car as one connected system. Save this before booking Norway. #Norway #NorwayTravel #Oslo #Bergen #Lofoten #Flam #Aurland #Naeroyfjord #NorwayItinerary #NorwayTravelGuide #EuropeTravel #TripPlanning #TravelGuide

I visited Flåm during my time in Norway, and the scenery around the village made an immediate impression on me. Surrounded by mountains and close to the fjord, Flåm felt like the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the landscape. I remember walking around the waterfront, looking at the mountains, and taking photos from different viewpoints. I also enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere between activities rather than trying to fill every moment. The combination of dramatic nature and a small village setting made Flåm memorable for me. I would gladly return, especially to explore more of the surrounding fjord landscape. #repeatdestination #repeatdestination

If you ask which European country is the ultimate road trip destination, most people would say Norway. Every mile you drive reveals soaring mountains, epic waterfalls, crystal-blue lakes, and massive fjords carved out by nature millions of years ago. A 6-day, 5-night itinerary is the sweet spot—you get to hit world-famous landmarks and drive on world-class routes without feeling rushed. ⸻ 🌊 Day 1 | Bergen: The Gateway to the Fjords Kick off your trip in Bergen, a historic coastal city famous for the colorful wooden houses of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll along the waterfront, swing by the bustling fish market, and catch the Fløibanen funicular for sweeping panoramic views of the city. We guarantee you'll fall head over heels for Norway on day one! ⸻ 🚢 Day 2 | Nærøyfjord & Flåm Today is an absolute highlight. Take a scenic cruise through Nærøyfjord, one of the narrowest and most breathtaking fjords on earth. It's flanked by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls along the way. The vibe is so tranquil, it feels like nature itself is telling you a story. In the afternoon, make a pit stop at Flåm, a quaint fjord-side village famous for the Flåm Railway—hands down one of the most scenic train rides in the world. ⸻ 🚗 Day 3 | Stegastein & Loen Hit the road to the Stegastein Viewpoint, a stunning platform that hangs 650 meters above the fjord. You'll get sweeping views of mountains and waters stretching as far as the eye can see. Every angle here is picture-perfect. From there, head to Loen, a cozy village nestled between mountains and a lake. The serene atmosphere makes it the ultimate spot to kick back and unwind. ⸻ 🚠 Day 4 | Loen Skylift & Briksdal Glacier Hop on the Loen Skylift, which whisks you up to a mountain peak over 1,000 meters high in just a matter of minutes. At the summit, you'll find a restaurant, viewing platforms, and hiking trails offering epic panoramic fjord views. In the afternoon, check out the Briksdal Glacier, a colossal blue icecap hidden within the valley. It's a short, easy walk to get up close and personal with this massive wonder of nature. ⸻ 🏔 Day 5 | Geirangerfjord & Ørnesvingen Get ready for another major Norwegian highlight. Drive into Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The route is packed with mind-blowing twists and turns, the iconic Seven Sisters waterfall, and non-stop majestic mountain views. Whatever you do, don't skip the Ørnesvingen (Eagle Road) viewpoint—it offers arguably the most breathtaking vantage point over Geirangerfjord. ⸻ 🌅 Day 6 | Trollstigen & Heading Home Wrap up your epic journey at Trollstigen, the legendary mountain pass known for its hairpin bends. Surrounded by steep cliffs, waterfalls, and raw nature, it elevates your drive into an unforgettable adventure. Before heading home, pull over at a tiny roadside cafe. Sip on some hot coffee while soaking in the mountain views for a slow, proper farewell to Norway. You'll quickly understand why so many people are dying to come back here. ⸻ 💡 Tips 🚗 Renting a car is the absolute best way to explore since the spots are pretty spread out, and the stunning roadside views are half the magic of the trip. ☀️ The sweet spot to visit is between June and September. All the scenic routes are open, the weather is crisp and comfortable, and the long daylight hours let you maximize your itinerary. 🧥 Pack windbreakers, raincoats, and sturdy hiking shoes. The weather is wildly unpredictable, even in the dead of summer. Norway is a destination that doesn't need over-the-top activities to blow you away. Just cruising down the road, playing some chill tunes, gazing at the mountains, listening to the waterfalls, and breathing in the crisp air is enough to fill every single day with pure, simple joy. It's definitely a bucket-list trip you'll be itching to do all over again. ❤️

#slowtraveling Flåm was one of my favourite stops in Norway! 🇳🇴✨ 🚢 Cruise from Flåm to Gudvangen The fjord cruise was absolutely beautiful. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, waterfalls and calm water, the scenery just kept getting better throughout the journey. 🚂 Flåm Railway I also took the famous mountain train from Flåm, passing through stunning mountain scenery before stopping to see the huge Kjosfossen waterfall 💦. The waterfall was incredibly powerful and definitely one of the highlights of the trip! 📸 My tip: If you're visiting Flåm, try to experience both the fjord cruise and the Flåm Railway. They show you two completely different sides of Norway's incredible landscape. Honestly, Flåm is one of those places where you don't need to do much — just sit back, look out the window and enjoy the view. 🤍 #flam #flamnorway #norway #norwaytravel #norwayfjords #gudvangen #flamrailway #kjosfossen #scenictrain #norwaytrip #traveltips #underratedspots #tripmoments

Norway is a country especially favored by nature, with its rugged coastline carving out majestic, deep fjords. In winter nights, the northern lights streak freely across the sky, while summer’s midnight sun offers endless golden evenings. Whether you prefer urban culture, mountain hiking, or chasing the polar lights, this place fulfills every Nordic dream. It’s recommended to start your day before 9 AM whenever possible. Norway’s daylight hours vary greatly by season. Early departures help you avoid crowds and give you plenty of time to fully immerse yourself in the natural scenery. Begin your trip in the capital, Oslo. The Oslo Opera House resembles a white iceberg rising from the sea. Visitors can walk up the sloping roof platform to take in both the cityscape and the Oslo fjord. Vigeland Sculpture Park features numerous sculptures that depict the joys and sorrows of human life. The Munch Museum houses the original The Scream, offering an immersive experience of the unique cool and profound Nordic art. Strolling along the harbor before 9 AM, when the city is still quiet and the sea breeze gentle, lets you feel the relaxed morning life of locals. Head west to Bergen, a harbor city surrounded by seven green mountains and an important gateway to the fjord region. The Bryggen wooden houses, a UNESCO World Heritage site, line up in colorful rows. Early mornings see fewer tourists, making every photo a great shot. Take the Fløibanen funicular to the top for panoramic views of the town and fjord. At the street market, you can taste local seafood like smoked salmon and Arctic shrimp. From Bergen, venture out to the world’s longest fjord, the Sognefjord. Ride the Flåm mountain train through forests and waterfalls, then transfer to a fjord cruise as the emerald glacier waters stretch slowly between towering mountains. For polar scenery, travel north to Tromsø, known as the “gateway to the northern lights.” The best time to see the aurora is from October to April. During the day, take the cable car for views of the Arctic Ocean and visit the uniquely designed Arctic Cathedral. At night, head to open areas outside the city to quietly watch the northern lights dance across the sky. If you visit in summer, experience the magical midnight sun, with the sun hanging in the sky all day long. Choosing the right accommodation can double your travel experience. Three hotels with distinct styles suit different needs. The Continental Hotel Oslo is located in the city center, within walking distance to the Royal Palace and major museums. With a history of over 100 years, it retains Art Nouveau decorative details indoors. After sightseeing, you can relax in the hotel’s lounge area. It’s ideal for travelers using Oslo as a transit point to explore the city. The Walaker Hotel along the Sognefjord coast is a family-run establishment passed down through generations. The rustic wooden house stands by the water. Open the window to see the fjord and mountains, with morning mist covering the water, creating a deeply atmospheric scene. The restaurant focuses on fresh local ingredients. Staying here is perfect for slowing down and soaking in the fjord’s tranquility, ideal for travelers wanting an in-depth fjord experience. The Tromsø Harbor Boutique Hotel is close to the harbor, with most rooms featuring sea-view windows. You can walk to various city spots. After a late-night aurora chase, the sauna helps warm you up from the polar chill, making it very welcoming for travelers heading to the Arctic to see the northern lights. Practical travel tips: Norway is part of the Schengen area, so a visa must be obtained in advance. Prices are generally high, so book accommodations and meals early. The weather is unpredictable; even in summer, bring windproof and waterproof jackets. When hiking to Preikestolen or Trolltunga, arrive at the trailhead before 9 AM, bring professional outdoor gear, and never hike alone on remote routes. In winter, entering the Arctic Circle requires thick down jackets and anti-slip snow boots. Card payments are widely accepted, so carry only a small amount of cash for occasional small-town expenses. Norway’s charm is never about rushing through but about quietly listening to the waves, watching the fjord’s morning mist, and waiting for the northern lights to fill the sky. Start early and fully immerse yourself in this northern land to create your own unique Nordic memories.

#repeatdestination Okay, hear me out. Flåm is a village. Population? Around 400 people. It sits at the bottom of one of Norway's most dramatic fjord valleys, surrounded by waterfalls, mountains so steep they look fake, and silence so thick you can hear your own heartbeat. I've been three times now, and each visit has rewired me a little more. This tiny village is my repeat destination — and I don't say that lightly. First time was 2019. I took the famous Flåm Railway down from Myrdal — one of the world's most scenic train rides, and I know that's a cliché, but clichés exist for a reason. Twenty kilometers of tunnels, waterfalls crashing down cliffs, sheep grazing on impossibly steep hillsides. I sat with my nose practically pressed against the window like a kid on a school trip. When I stepped off the train in Flåm, I just stood there. The air was different — cold, clean, pine-scented. A woman running the local bakery waved me in and handed me a piece of lingonberry cake. Free. No strings. That's when I knew I'd be back. Second visit, 2022. Summer this time. I kayaked the Nærøyfjord — UNESCO World Heritage, absolutely stunning — paddling past waterfalls that thunder down into the water right beside you. The scale of it made me feel simultaneously tiny and alive. That evening, I sat on a bench by the quay eating fresh-caught Arctic char from a little dockside restaurant while a cat strolled between tables like it owned the place. I watched the sun hover just above the mountain line for hours because, you know, midnight sun. I didn't want to leave. I physically could not make myself go back to the hostel. Third trip was this past September. Autumn. Totally different mood. The valley turned gold and amber, fewer tourists, the mountains wrapped in low clouds. I hiked up to Stegastein Viewpoint — that crazy cantilevered platform jutting out over the Aurlandsfjord — and stood there completely alone for ten minutes. Just me and a valley that looked like it belonged in a fantasy film. On the way down, I bumped into a Norwegian couple who'd been coming every year for their anniversary. "We first came on our honeymoon," the husband told me. "Now we bring our kids." That hit me somewhere deep. What makes Flåm repeatable? It's the way it changes with every season but never loses that raw, overwhelming beauty. It's small enough to feel intimate, wild enough to feel like adventure. Every time I return, I find a new waterfall I missed, a new trail, a new reason to sit still and just breathe. Question for you all: have you ever found a place so small and so beautiful that it became your annual escape? What is your "little village" that keeps pulling you back? I genuinely want to know — drop it below. 👇 #RepeatDestination #Flåm #NorwayTravel #Nærøyfjord #FjordNorway #TravelCommunity #ScandinavianAdventures

Norway had been on my bucket list for years, and somehow it still exceeded every expectation. I started in Oslo, where modern architecture blends effortlessly with nature. Walking along the waterfront was the perfect introduction before heading deeper into the country. The real magic began in Flåm. The train ride through mountains, waterfalls, and tiny villages felt like watching a movie through the window. From there, I joined a cruise through Nærøyfjord, and the scenery was even more spectacular in person. Towering cliffs, peaceful water, and waterfalls around every corner made it one of the most memorable experiences of my trip. Further north, Bergen quickly became one of my favorite cities. I loved wandering around Bryggen’s colorful wooden houses before taking the Fløibanen funicular for panoramic views over the harbor. Another unforgettable stop was Trolltunga. The hike was challenging, but standing on that famous rock overlooking the fjord was worth every step. Before leaving, I spent a night in Tromsø, hoping to see the Northern Lights. Watching the sky suddenly glow with dancing green ribbons was something I’ll never forget. Norway isn’t the cheapest destination, but every view, every drive, and every quiet moment in nature made it feel absolutely worth it. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after the journey ends. #norway #norwaytravel

If someone asked me to describe Norway in just one place, my answer would be Flåm. Hidden at the end of the breathtaking Aurlandsfjord, this tiny village feels like a place where time slows down. Towering mountains, emerald water, waterfalls flowing down steep cliffs, and peaceful silence—everything looked even more magical than I had imagined. Flåm is also the gateway to the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord and home to the world-famous Flåm Railway, one of the steepest and most scenic railway journeys on Earth. 💡My experience ✨ The moment I stepped off the Flåm Railway, I couldn't stop smiling. The air felt unbelievably fresh, and the surrounding mountains seemed to wrap around the little village like a postcard coming to life. One of my favorite moments was simply walking along the fjord. There was no rush, no traffic noise—just the gentle sound of the water, waterfalls in the distance, and colorful houses reflected on the calm surface. It was one of those rare places where I found myself putting my camera down just to enjoy the view. Later, I joined a fjord cruise through Nærøyfjord. As the boat glided between towering cliffs, I finally understood why Norwegian fjords are considered some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Every turn revealed another incredible view, and I honestly spent most of the journey speechless. 💡Things you shouldn't miss 🚂 Ride the legendary Flåm Railway from Myrdal to Flåm. 🚢 Take a fjord cruise through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. 📸 Visit Stegastein Viewpoint for an unforgettable panoramic view over Aurlandsfjord. 🚶 Stroll around the peaceful village and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. 💡Travel Tips · Spend at least one night in Flåm instead of making it a quick day trip. The village becomes much quieter after many day visitors leave, making sunset and early morning especially magical. · Bring a light waterproof jacket. The weather changes quickly in the fjords, even during summer. · Sit by the window on the Flåm Railway—you'll pass waterfalls, tunnels, dramatic mountains, and some of Norway's most spectacular scenery. Flåm wasn't the biggest destination on my Norway itinerary, but it turned out to be the one I'll remember the longest. Sometimes, the most unforgettable places aren't filled with famous landmarks—they simply make you slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate nature in its purest form. Would I come back?
Absolutely. Next time, I'd stay longer just to wake up with the fjord outside my window. 📍Flåm, Norway 🇳🇴 #norway #flam #visitnorway #norwegianfjords #aurlandsfjord #naeroyfjord #flamrailway #scandinavia #travelnorway #travelphotography #naturelovers #BucketListDestinationn #mytravelstory #tripmoments

Who says Norway is only about the three famous fjords? These 4 “hidden yet not so hidden” treasures combine Instagram-worthy beauty with the unique tranquility of the Nordics. Any one of them is perfect for a healing short trip! 🚢💙   🏔️ Reine, Lofoten Islands Known as the “world’s most beautiful fishing village,” it’s long been popular among photographers but remains as peaceful as a dream in person. Highlights: Red cabins nestled by a Tiffany-blue fjord, backed by jagged snow-capped mountains. Experience: Hike up Reinebringen for panoramic views or drive along the E10 highway where every turn is postcard-perfect. Atmosphere: Like a fairy tale under the midnight sun, and a prime spot for chasing the northern lights in winter. 🚂 Flåm, deep in Aurlandsfjord Not exactly off the beaten path, but definitely an underrated short trip gem! It’s the jewel on the Sognefjord branch line. Highlights: A mountain-ringed town with waterfalls plunging off cliffs into the sea and glowing green rivers that soothe the soul. Experience: Ride the mountain train through mist and waterfalls (all natural scenery, no artificial effects), or cycle along the fjord breeze. Atmosphere: No city noise, just the wind in the valley and church bells ringing. 🐐 Undredal, by Aurlandsfjord A tiny hidden gem near Flåm. You might not know the name, but the photos will look familiar. Highlights: Colorful cabins on the hillside next to an ancient log church (still an active community church, not a museum). Experience: Watch hundreds of free-roaming goats on the hillside (the village’s signature scene) and stroll the peaceful fjord-side boardwalk. Atmosphere: So quiet it’s hard to believe. The best place to experience “Norwegian slow life” on a short trip. 🌊 Henningsvær, Lofoten Islands Often called the “Venice of the North,” but it’s wilder and bluer than Venice. Highlights: A fishing village built on scattered islets connected by long bridges, with a sea football field that’s a popular photo spot. Experience: Watch fishing boats come and go at the dock, listen to waves crashing along the rocky coast, and explore art galleries and cafés tucked inside fishing cabins. Atmosphere: A perfect balance of everyday life and art, just the right size for an afternoon stroll.   💡Short trip tips For short trips in Norway, choose either the fjord routes around Bergen or the Lofoten Islands. Don’t try to do too much—slow pace is the best way to enjoy the scenery. The weather changes often, so windproof and waterproof jackets are essential. Both sunny and cloudy days have their own cinematic charm. 📸Trip.com travel notes These four places often appear in guides but see far fewer visitors than top spots like Oslo or Preikestolen. They’re comfortable spots that “those in the know” naturally appreciate. A 2–4 day short trip is just right, and every snapshot looks like a Nordic filter is turned up to max! 🎞️

From Oslo, we transferred to the Bergen Line, Flåm Railway, a fjord cruise, a bus, and another train to finally reach Bergen! The journey itself was the ultimate sightseeing experience, offering endless breathtaking views. (*Check out a separate post for detailed DIY travel instructions!) 💐💐 Sightseeing Info 💐💐 🍀🚢 Fjord Cruise A highlight of any trip to Norway, where you can truly feel the power of Mother Nature! The spectacular scenery will leave you speechless. 　 🍀🦀 Fish Market This bustling market is packed with an array of fresh fish and shellfish! You can have your picks cooked right on the spot and enjoy the freshest seafood imaginable. 　 🍀🏚️ Bryggen District (World Heritage Site) A historic row of wooden structures that preserves the townscape from around 950 years ago. Some of the oldest standing buildings date back over 350 years! Even though the structures lean and warp a bit, it’s incredibly moving to see them still being used as active shops today. It’s a special place where you can feel the profound depth of history beyond just its aesthetic beauty. 🍀🚠 Mount Fløyen & Mount Ulriken (Funicular & Cable Car) Amazing spots offering panoramic views of the city! Unfortunately, we had to skip them this time due to foggy, bad weather. Tickets are a bit pricey at 200 NOK (around 3,400 JPY), but we hear the views on a clear day are absolutely phenomenal. 🏚️ Accommodation Scandic Neptune Though a little ways from Bergen Station, this hotel is super convenient—the airport bus stop is right nearby, providing excellent access to major tourist attractions. We were so happy to get a room with a **bathtub**, a major plus for Japanese travelers! ⚠️ Heads-up If you’re staying multiple nights, you must request room cleaning by 11:00 PM via the reception or online, otherwise, your room won’t be serviced. Don't forget! 📌 Real Talk: Handy Tips for DIY Travel 🛒 Your best friend in pricey Scandinavia: "REMA 1000" Hitting up local supermarkets is a must if you want to keep food costs down on an independent trip! "REMA 1000" is highly recommended for being especially budget-friendly. Just a heads-up: some locations have exit gates that won't open unless you scan the barcode on your receipt. 💡 The Kløverhuset branch is just a 2-minute walk from the Scandic Neptune Hotel. 🚌 Airport Access Alert (As of July 2026) Normally, you can catch a super convenient tram (light rail) to the airport for just 42 NOK one way, but it was out of service due to major construction. Always check the latest transit updates! We had no choice but to take the airport bus (189 NOK) to get to the airport this time 🥲 🗓️ Visited: July 2026 Flights

⏳Recommended duration: 1 day (one-way ferry) / 2-3 days (including Flåm and surrounding in-depth tours) 💡Why visit: Depart from Bergen’s small harbor at 8 AM, with low clouds hugging the mountains, the city slowly folding away like a closed book, retreating behind you. Five to six hours later, you arrive in Flåm—a small town hidden at the end of the fjord, as quiet as an unfinished sentence. As noted in the journal, there are no noisy sights here, only traces of time flowing slowly. If travel is an escape, this fjord feels more like a return to nature itself. 🚢Route info | 5.5-hour drift from Bergen to Flåm The express boat from Bergen to Flåm is operated by Norled, running daily from April 1 to October 31. Booking online in advance is usually cheaper than buying on site. 🗺️Route highlights | Visual transition from coast to fjord The first two hours sail along Norway’s west coast, passing Vardetangen (the westernmost point of mainland Norway), Mongstad, and the historically important trading post Skjerjehamn. After entering the Sognefjord, the banks rise, and about two hours later you can see the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. The second half is the most spectacular—the Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site, narrows to just 250 meters at its tightest point. Before arriving in Flåm, you pass the Aurlandsfjord, with steep cliffs and waterfalls on both sides. The Sognefjord is Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, with depths exceeding 1,300 meters. 🏡Flåm | A pause at the fjord’s end “A short stop, a simple serving of fish and chips, a few steps, watching the wind pass through the mountains.” Flåm Railway: One of the steepest standard gauge railways in the world, climbing 864 meters over 20 kilometers, passing the Kjosfossen waterfall (225 meters drop), where red-clad dancers perform in summer. One-way ticket costs about 27-39 euros. Nærøyfjord cruise: About 2 hours from Flåm to Gudvangen, adult tickets around 60 euros. Depart from Flåm pier, sailing along the World Heritage fjord. Stegastein viewpoint: About 20 minutes by car from Flåm, suspended 650 meters above the fjord, overlooking the entire Aurlandsfjord. Flåm Railway Museum: Free admission, learn about the century-old railway’s construction history. 🧾Practical tips | Every word counts · Booking: Flåm Railway tickets are tight in peak season; it’s recommended to book in advance on the official website and choose window seats. · Clothing: The fjord journey is windy and cool; windproof and waterproof jackets, hats, and gloves are essential. The boat has heating, but the deck is very windy. · Food: The boat has a small shop (coffee, tea, hot food) but limited options. It’s advisable to bring snacks and water. · Luggage: Large luggage storage is at the rear of the boat; keep valuables with you. · Segment tickets: Booking segments separately is more flexible than official packages and allows free transfers to alternative transport if disruptions occur. · Best season: May to September offers the most stable weather, long daylight, and abundant waterfall flow. 🌅The journey from Bergen to Flåm is like a ceremony of retreating from the city back to nature. Five and a half hours is enough to detach from the noise—watch waterfalls tumble down cliffs, light pierce through clouds to brighten the water, and the silence deep in the fjord slowly quiet you too. On the return, the wind is colder, the light softer; the same fjord feels like a different world. 💬Have you been to Norway’s fjords? Is it the depth of the Sognefjord, the silence of Nærøyfjord, or Flåm’s fish and chips that you remember most? Feel free to share in the comments~

I thought I knew what “beautiful” meant. Then I stood at the edge of a Norwegian fjord, watching the water reflect mountains so perfect they looked fake, and realized I had to completely redefine the word. Norway doesn’t show off — it simply exists, and that’s enough to leave you speechless. 🌊 🗓️ Best Time to Visit June through August for the legendary Midnight Sun — daylight that never ends and landscapes bathed in golden light 24 hours a day. December through February if chasing the Northern Lights is your dream. Both versions of Norway are breathtaking, just completely different experiences. 🏔️ What to See Start in Bergen — a colorful, compact city framed by seven mountains with the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf running along the harbor. From there, the famous fjord country opens up entirely. Sognefjord is the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, and sailing through it feels genuinely surreal. Preikestolen — Pulpit Rock — is a flat cliff rising 604 meters straight above Lysefjord. Standing on the edge is one of those moments that stays with you forever. 🌌 The Northern Lights Tromsø in northern Norway is one of the best places on earth to witness the Aurora Borealis. There’s no describing what it feels like to watch green and purple light dance across an Arctic sky in silence. You simply have to experience it yourself. 🦌 Beyond the Views Norway has depth beyond its scenery. The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo tells a story 1,200 years old. The Sami culture in the north is one of Europe’s oldest indigenous traditions. Dog sledding, reindeer encounters, and ice hotels add layers of experience you won’t find anywhere else. 🍽️ Food & Culture Fresh seafood is exceptional here — salmon, king crab, and cod that actually tastes like it came straight from the ocean (because it did). Oslo’s food scene has quietly become one of Europe’s most exciting, with Nordic cuisine pushing creative boundaries in ways that surprise even seasoned travelers. 💸 Good to Know Norway is one of Europe’s pricier destinations — plan your budget accordingly. But every single krone spent feels worth it. The quality of experience here is simply unmatched. 🏨 Where to Stay In Bergen, stay close to the wharf for atmosphere. For fjord country, look for guesthouses in Flåm or Undredal — small villages that sit right at the water’s edge. And for the Northern Lights experience, a glass-roofed cabin in Tromsø is the only way to do it properly. ✨ Why You Should Go Norway forces you to slow down. To breathe. To look up from your phone and just be somewhere. In a world that moves too fast, that is genuinely rare — and genuinely priceless. 👉 The fjords are calling. Transportation · Self-driving: You can use a Chinese driver’s license with a translation. Fjord roads are mostly mountainous with ferries; check ferry schedules in advance (booking recommended in peak season), watch speed limits and roadside cattle and sheep. · Public transport: Use Skyss.no to check buses and ferries in western Norway. Services are limited, so buy tickets in advance during peak season. 2. Hiking · For hikes like Trolltunga and Preikestolen, wear anti-slip hiking shoes, bring enough water and snacks, and carry a raincoat even in summer (mountain weather is changeable). · Beginners are not advised to attempt difficult routes alone; join local hiking tours where guides provide equipment and route guidance. 3. Prices · Norway is very expensive; a cup of coffee costs about 50 NOK (≈35 CNY), a simple meal about 200 NOK (≈140 CNY). It’s recommended to buy snacks and bottled water in advance. · Accommodation prices double in peak season (July-August), so book 2-3 months ahead. Small town guesthouses offer better value. 4. Other Tips · Bring an international credit card; most small towns do not accept cash. · Bring a thick jacket even in summer; fjords have large temperature differences between morning and evening, and mountain temperatures are even lower.

Epic Norway in a Day: Bergen → Voss → Myrdal → Flåm → Voss → Oslo 🚉🇳🇴 This entire itinerary can be booked independently through the Vy app. Voss — We chose to stop here first to store our luggage. There are lockers at the station, but they turned out to be too small for our suitcases. So we did what we learned from the airport: left our bags next to the lockers and kept small valuables inside a locker. Using the locker is very simple—just scan, make the payment, and close the door; when you want to open it, simply unlock it via your mobile phone. Myrdal — We took a train from Voss to this station to connect to the Flåm Railway. Flåm Railway — If you’re heading to Flåm, sit on the left side for better views. The train also makes a short stop at a waterfall for photos. Flåm — From here, you can take a cruise to Gudvangen. Along the way, you’ll pass through Nærøyfjord, one of the most beautiful and narrow fjords, which is part of Sognefjord. Lockers in Flåm include large compartments suitable for big suitcases. Recommendation (for October): It’s better to go Oslo → Flåm → Bergen rather than Bergen → Flåm → Oslo. The first Flåm Railway departure from Myrdal starts relatively late, so traveling from Oslo fits better with the schedule. On the return, the journey to Bergen is shorter, allowing more time to rest. Example: Norway in a nutshells route Oslo → Myrdal → Flåm → Gudvangen → Voss → Bergen Route breakdown: Oslo → Myrdal (train; Vy) Myrdal → Flåm = Flåm Railway (train; Vy) Flåm → Gudvangen (cruise through Nærøyfjord) Gudvangen → Voss (Vy bus no. 450;vy or local shuttle bus; pay on-site) Voss → Bergen (train; Vy) Alternative: Gudvangen → Bergen (Vy bus no. 450) 📌Tips: 1. Train and bus schedules vary by month—always check in advance. 2. If it’s not peak season, you can buy train tickets closer to your travel date; prices may drop again after temporarily increasing. 3. Luggage transfer services are available (same-day delivery) between Bergen and Oslo. -> porterservice website 4. Recommended to allow a bit of extra time when selecting your locker duration, as the price difference is minimal—better than paying a penalty if you return late. 🌏🗺🧭✈️🛳#flamsbana #flam #norway #douubleuugotonorswe #douubleuugototheplanet

In Old Norse, "Flåm" means "flat land." It is a serene little town situated along the Sognefjord. Thanks to the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding fjords and a harbor deep enough to accommodate large cruise ships, it is a popular destination. However, the local government permits only one cruise ship to dock at a time, ensuring the town never feels overcrowded. The town of Flåm features a few restaurants and souvenir shops. Visitors can grab a quick lunch here before continuing their journey by boat or train to take in more of the stunning Norwegian fjord landscapes.

Highlights Flåm is nestled in the tributary of the Sognefjord, the Aurlandsfjord, surrounded by dense Norwegian spruce forests. The town is best known for the Flåm Railway, one of the steepest standard-gauge railways in the world. A ride on this railway offers close-up views of the Kjosfossen Waterfall, which has a drop of 200 meters, and passes through numerous tunnels. The Flåm Museum in town showcases the local history of logging and railways, with an old steam locomotive displayed in the garden outside. During summer, wildflowers bloom across the hills, and taking a fjord cruise allows visitors to admire the stunning scenery where the town blends harmoniously with the surrounding forests. Transportation From Bergen, take a train to Myrdal and transfer to the Flåm Railway to reach the town, a journey of about 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a cruise directly to Flåm Pier from the Sognefjord. Personal Tips 1. Tickets for the Flåm Railway are highly sought after, so it’s recommended to book window seats in advance on the official website to enjoy the scenic views. 2. The town’s handmade goat cheese has a rich flavor and can be purchased at local farm shops. 3. Hiking trails outside the town lead to the top of Kjosfossen Waterfall, offering panoramic views of the fjord and railway. Don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent.

#europeonbudget #tripstars #tripblazers #flamsbana #norway When budgeting for your Norway trip, you must budget in the Flåmsbana train ride — one of the world’s most spectacular railway journeys. Stretching from the fjord village of Flåm to the mountain station of Myrdal, this 20-kilometer route climbs nearly 900 meters through steep valleys, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic mountain scenery. Every minute of the hour-long journey reveals a new breathtaking view, from lush green hillsides in summer to snow-covered peaks in winter. The train makes a memorable stop at Kjosfossen Waterfall, where passengers can step out to feel the mist and witness a short folkloric performance. Built in the early 20th century, the Flåmsbana is not only an engineering marvel but also a living piece of Norwegian heritage. Comfortable, panoramic carriages allow travelers to fully appreciate the stunning landscape from every angle. Whether you’re a seasoned explorer or a first-time visitor, the Flåmsbana offers an unforgettable experience that defines Norway’s majestic beauty.

Sognefjord, located in western Norway, is one of the world's largest fjords. It's easily accessible even for beginners, and the 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour is a must-do route that takes you from Oslo to Bergen while sightseeing 🚞 Oslo → Myrdal Bergen Railway: Approximately 4 hours 50 minutes Myrdal → Flåm Flåm Railway: Approximately 1 hour This railway is one of the steepest in the world. At a spot with a large waterfall, the train stops for about 5 minutes, giving you time to take photos. Flåm → Gudvangen Fjord Cruise (Boat): This is the highlight of the trip. Although the cruise lasts about 2 hours, it feels like it goes by in no time. Even for someone like me who gets seasick, the ride was smooth and comfortable, making it suitable for those who aren't used to boat rides 🙆♀️ Gudvangen → Voss Bus: Approximately 1 hour The buses fill up quickly, but they seem to adjust the number of buses based on the number of passengers. Since most people follow the same route, you can just go with the flow of the crowd. Voss → Bergen Train: Takes a little over 1 hour to arrive. I reached Bergen at around 9 PM. This route doubles as a way to travel from Oslo to Bergen, making it a cost-effective option in Norway, where prices for goods and transportation can be high. It's a great way to save money while enjoying the sights 😉

📍 Flåm, Norway Flåm is a small but vibrant town, bustling with cruise ships and tourists! It's said that around 160 cruise ships dock here annually, attracting 450,000 visitors. 🚂 Perfect for backpackers! Visit by train from Oslo or Bergen, taking in the stunning scenery. Flåm Train Station is conveniently located as a terminal/departure point, not a transit point. 🏕 Accommodation Central campsite + youth hostel Showers: Paid Tents can be pitched anywhere on the lawn, and there are plenty of "hyttes" (tents) available. Online reservations are required during peak season. 🚴♂️ Activities Mountain train: Flåm ↔ Myrdal Fjord: End of Aurlandsfjord, tributary of Sognefjord Kayak & speedboat tours available Train to Myrdal and bike back to Flåm are recommended. Many great trails for jogging/walking. 💡 Travel Tips Bike rentals are recommended at Myrdal rather than at the Flåm campsite. On rainy days, the backseat of a car is more convenient than a tent. #AdventureMoment #Flåm

If I had to pick the most emotional day of my trip to Norway, I'd say, without hesitation, the cogwheel train and bike ride from Flåm to Myrdal. There's only one reason I highly recommend it! This journey is all about the journey itself. 🌿 · -- 📍Flåm ↔ Myrdal 🇳🇴 Flåm-Myrdal Cog Railway + Bike Descent Course Cog Railway Duration: Approximately 1 hour Bicycle Descent Distance: Approximately 20 km Descent Time: Approximately 2-3.5 hours (including stops) Operating Season: June - September Recommended Travel Method: Flåm → Cog Railway → Myrdal → Bike Descent from Flåm · -- 🚆 A Classic Cog Railway with 80 Years of Tradition The cog railway, connecting Flåm and Myrdal for approximately 20 km, has been a landmark for 80 years since it opened in 1939. The section features 20 tunnels and 1 bridge. A magnificent natural panorama of cliffs, waterfalls, and gorges. All seats on the train are non-reserved! Seating is first-come, first-served, so board early. The view from both sides is breathtaking, so you'll be 100% satisfied no matter where you sit. 📸 A surprise event awaits you at the midway stop, "Kjosfossen"! · - 👻 The legendary fairy "Huldra" appears! A majestic piece of music suddenly emanates from Kjosfossen... And a blonde fairy emerges from the mist 👩🦰✨ The surprise performance by the legendary Norwegian fairy "Huldra" was truly one of the highlights of this trip. ✔️ The performance lasts approximately 5 minutes and may be canceled depending on the weather! · - ☕ Tips for Arriving in Myrdal A quick bite to eat at the cafe inside the station.
