Last weekend, I had the chance to explore Folkestone, a coastal gem in Kent, England. With its rich history, vibrant culture, and unique dining experiences, it left a lasting impression on me. Here's why you should visit: Step into History at the Memorial The Step Short Memorial Arch stands proudly overlooking the sea, commemorating the soldiers who embarked from Folkestone during World War I. Walking through this tribute and along the Memorial Walk was a deeply moving experience, offering a peaceful space to reflect on the town’s historical significance. Harbour Highlights & Unique Dining The Harbour Arm is a lively stretch brimming with energy. I enjoyed a delicious lunch in a beautifully restored old train carriage, which offered a quirky yet cozy dining experience. Caught the perfect sunny day for a stroll along the coast! The views over the sea are absolutely stunning, especially with all the vibrant flowers in bloom. Such a relaxing spot to unwind.

There is something rather charming about Folkestone. It feels like stepping into an older seaside town where time has moved a little more slowly. The harbour, the old buildings, the little cafés and the long promenade give the town a wonderfully nostalgic character, almost like a seaside holiday from another time. Folkestone is particularly lovely around the harbour and the Folkestone Harbour Arm, where the old harbour has been transformed into a lively place for eating, walking and enjoying the sea. The promenade stretches out towards the English Channel, with boats in the harbour and, on a clear day, views across towards France. It is also a lovely place to spend a warm afternoon by the water. People come here to sit by the beach, walk along the seafront and, when the weather permits, swim in the sea. There are quieter stretches of the coast for those who simply want to sit and listen to the waves, as well as livelier areas around the harbour. One of the nicest things about Folkestone is the food. Along the Harbour Arm and around the seafront, you will find cafés, small food stalls and independent places serving everything from casual seaside food to fresh seafood. There are plenty of places to stop for coffee, something sweet, fish and seafood, or simply a meal to enjoy while looking out towards the water. The Harbour Arm is particularly known for its collection of independent food and drink traders. How to get there from London : The easiest way is to take the train from London St Pancras International to Folkestone Central. Once you arrive at Folkestone Central, you can walk towards the harbour, or take a local bus. The Harbour Arm advises that the walk from Folkestone Central is around 25 minutes, with regular buses also available. If you are visiting London and have a spare day, Folkestone makes a lovely little escape from the city. It has that nostalgic British seaside feeling, with the sea, old harbour, independent cafés, seafood, little food stalls and plenty of places to simply wander without a fixed plan. Sometimes the best places are the ones where there is very little need to hurry. #travel2026 #london #beachvacation

It 's very beautiful, I recommend it to everyone.

Last June, three of us decided to escape the busy streets of London and spend a summer day exploring Folkestone. We booked our train tickets through Trip.com and started our journey from Stratford International to Folkestone Central. With a Railcard, our open-return ticket cost just £28 per person, compared with £42 without one, making it a great-value day trip. When we arrived at Folkestone Central, the excitement immediately began. We walked towards the famous Folkestone Harbour Arm, enjoying the changing scenery as the town gradually opened up into beautiful coastal views. The hills gave us a different perspective of Folkestone, with the sea stretching endlessly into the distance. There was something peaceful about standing up high, looking down towards the harbour and watching the waves. After exploring the hills and harbour, we decided it was time for some classic British food. We stopped at Central Fish Bar near the station and tried fish and chips. After all that walking, it tasted even better! Crispy fish, hot chips and the relaxed atmosphere made it a perfect part of our little adventure. The best part of the trip wasn't just the destination; it was the journey itself. Three friends walking through unfamiliar streets, discovering beautiful viewpoints, enjoying the sea breeze, sharing food and laughing along the way made the day feel like a much longer holiday than it actually was. By the end of the day, we returned to Folkestone Central with tired feet but happy minds, ready to catch our open-return train back to London. Folkestone reminded us that sometimes you don't need an expensive holiday or a long journey to create unforgettable memories. Sometimes, all you need are two train tickets, good friends, a beautiful coastline and a little curiosity.

I loved it so much , I realised everyone does their hiking at the top part but my group did ours at the beach side down wards so we got to see the n****d free people at the bottom end of the beach a little before getting to the exits

We spent some time in Folkestone and really enjoyed the seaside atmosphere. There’s something about being next to the sea that makes you slow down a bit — watching the waves, feeling the fresh air and just taking your time. We loved walking along the seafront and taking in the views across the Channel. On a clear day, the sea looks amazing and there’s always something to watch, whether it’s boats in the distance, people walking along the coast or the waves coming in. What we liked about Folkestone is that it doesn’t feel like it’s only about the beach. There’s a nice mix of the sea, old buildings, little streets, cafés and places to stop and enjoy the views. You can have a relaxed walk, grab something to eat and then find somewhere by the water to sit for a while. For us, the best thing about the sea was simply the feeling of being outdoors. The sound of the waves and the sea air made the whole visit feel refreshing. Even when we weren’t doing anything in particular, we were happy just sitting and looking out towards the horizon. We also enjoyed the fact that the coastline gives you a completely different view depending on the weather. Sunshine makes the sea bright and inviting, while cloudy days give it a completely different character. Folkestone is a lovely place for a relaxed day out, especially if you enjoy coastal walks, sea views and that feeling of getting away from the usual busy routine. 🌊 #Folkestone #FolkestoneBeach #FolkestoneSeafront #Kent #KentCoast #KentTravel #VisitFolkestone #Seaside #ByTheSea #SeaViews #CoastalWalk #BritishSeaside #UKTravel #ExploreKent #FamilyDayOut #TravelReview #CoastalLife #EnglandTravel

#funtravel2026 We were absolutely delighted with our day trip to Folkestone. Just a 55-minute train rode from St Pancras and we found ourselves on the coast having the most spectacular beach day and taking in the art and sculpture trails. Walk along the Harbour Arm. Stop for a drink or ice cream. If you’re lucky there will be live music playing at the band stand. Want to sit on the sand and dip your toes in? Or maybe you prefer a shingle beach? Folkestone has both. The trains may be busy getting here but once you arrive at your destination, it will all be worth it. #englandtravel #southeast #staycationgoals #artexploration

If you want a coastal escape that feels completely fresh, vibrant, and packed with personality, you need to head down to Folkestone. It’s an incredibly easy hop from London St Pancras—the high-speed train gets you there in under an hour, dropping you right where the creative energy meets the sea. The absolute heart of the town’s revival is the Creative Quarter. Walking down the steep, cobbled Old High Street is a total joy—every single building is painted a different bright color, and the street is lined with independent galleries, quirky boutiques, and cozy indie coffee shops like Steep Street Coffee House. The whole town actually doubles as the UK’s largest outdoor contemporary art exhibition, so as you wander, you’ll stumble across world-class sculptures and installations hidden in the most surprising places. Once you've done some shopping, make your way down to the Folkestone Harbour Arm. This beautifully restored old railway pier stretches right out into the English Channel, and on a clear day, you can literally see France sitting on the horizon. It’s been transformed into a massive, buzzing food and drink haven. You can grab everything from fresh local seafood and wood-fired pizza to a glass of bubbly at the Champagne Bar tucked right inside the lighthouse at the very end of the pier. Before you head back to London, take a relaxed stroll along the Leas Promenade. Sitting high on the cliffs above the beach, it offers beautiful panoramic views of the water and the perfect coastal sunset to wrap up your day. It’s the perfect blend of salty sea air, amazing food, and cool artistic vibes 🍦⚓✨. #beachlife #familytravel #thingstodo #travel2026 #staycation #naturalwonders

we had a great time in Folkestone! I wasn’t sure what to expect upon booking our train ticket, but when we got here, we were thoroughly surprised! It had a beautiful beach and a lovely area of cute shops and restaurants :) Would come back for sure and recommend to others!

Spent a few days in Folkestone and honestly get why people keep recommending it now. It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard. Sea views everywhere, small independent spots instead of chains, and a slower pace that actually makes you switch off for a bit. Walked from the beach up through the old streets and ended up finding random cafés, bookshops, and little art spaces hidden everywhere. The coastal walks were unreal too, especially early in the morning before everything got busy. Folkestone feels different from the usual UK seaside towns. Cleaner, calmer, and somehow more creative without losing the local feel. Definitely one of the better weekend trips I’ve done recently. #travel2026

Folkestone surprised me in the best way. One minute you’re walking along the cliffs with the sea stretching forever, the next you’re in the Creative Quarter finding small cafés, galleries, and streets that actually feel alive instead of overdone for tourists. The Harbour Arm was probably my favourite part. Good food, live music, cold sea air, and one of those sunsets that makes you stop walking for a second. It has that mix of old seaside town energy with something more modern growing into it. Also didn’t expect the beaches to be this good. Quiet spots, clear views, and way less crowded than most places on the coast. If you want a UK trip that feels calm without being boring, Folkestone is worth it.

Breezy, pebble-strewn seaside spot with wide coastal views, a relaxed promenade vibe, and just enough salt-air drama to make a stroll feel cinematic.
