We saw the majestic glaciers of Fox Glacier, the beautiful mountains and lakes of Queenstown, and were incredibly lucky to witness the starry sky over Lake Tekapo. Forget the Twilight hype for a second (though I admit the Edward Cullen vibe is definitely there); architecturally, this 2007 house is a Pacific Northwest gem. It's tucked right in the middle of the woods, with massive glass panels and walnut wood paneling that blends incredibly well with the pine trees. Here are the real details from my hike yesterday: 📍 Where it is: 3333 NW Quimby St. It's in a super steep residential area in Northwest Portland. 🚗 How I got there and how much it cost: · I took an Uber from downtown that cost exactly $16.50 USD. · The driver dropped me off at the bottom because driving up that hill and turning around is a total headache. · I walked about 1,800 steps up the hill (my health app says I climbed the equivalent of 12 flights of stairs, so prep your legs). · If you're driving, heads up: the streets are super narrow and you can't use the neighbors' driveways. Make sure you park legally on the street. ⚠️ The reality of the place: It's private property. It has security cameras everywhere and very clear 'No Trespassing' signs. Don't try ringing the doorbell, there are no indoor tours, no souvenir shop, and no vampires live there (it originally belonged to a Nike exec). I stayed on the opposite sidewalk taking pictures from a side angle to capture the cantilevered balcony. After freezing for a bit while taking notes on the wood finishes, I walked down for about 20 minutes to the Northwest District area. There I spent $7.50 on a cold brew and a pastry at a super cool indie coffee shop. If you're into residential architecture or just want to unlock a childhood memory, it's totally worth the half-hour trek. Just be a decent tourist and don't invade people's privacy.
