🇦🇺 Rottnest Island Guide | What Nobody Told Me Before Visiting If you're visiting Perth, Rottnest Island is probably already on your list. But here's what I wish I knew before going. 🚗 Parking We parked at Victoria Quay Zone 3 before taking the ferry from Fremantle B Shed. Arrive early because parking can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. ⛴️ Ferry 8:30 AM departure from Fremantle B Shed. Travel time is only 30 minutes. Round-trip ferry: AUD 54 per adult. 🚌 Should you buy the island bus? Yes. We purchased the Island Explorer Bus for AUD 30 and it was completely worth it. Rottnest Island is much larger than most people expect, and walking between attractions can take a very long time. The last bus leaves around 4 PM, so plan your stops carefully. 💙 Our favorite part? The beaches. The water around Rottnest Island was some of the clearest we've seen in Western Australia. Every stop felt different, from quiet bays to dramatic coastal views. 🐾 And yes, the quokkas really are everywhere. But don't spend your entire day chasing quokka photos. The island itself is the real highlight. ⚠️ Tips before visiting: · Book your ferry tickets early. · Arrive early for parking. · Buy the bus ticket if you only have one day. · Bring sunscreen and water. · Check the last bus and ferry times before exploring. 5:30 PM ferry back to Fremantle. Our Western Australia adventure started with a Singapore Airlines red-eye flight to Perth. After arriving, we headed straight to Crowne Plaza Perth to drop off our luggage before kicking off our first day of sightseeing. For Day 1, we had booked a Rottnest Island ferry transfer with SeaLink. One of the perks was their complimentary pick-up service from Pan Pacific Perth, which is just a short walk from Crowne Plaza. It made the transfer to the ferry terminal very convenient. On Day 2, we picked up our rental car and took a day trip to the spectacular Pinnacles Desert, where we explored the unique limestone formations in Nambung National Park. Day 3 marked the start of our road trip south to Margaret River, where we spent four nights in an Airbnb. During our stay, we enjoyed winery hopping, visited some of the region's famous attractions, went whale watching in Augusta, and explored the beautiful coastal areas of Yallingup and Cape Naturaliste. On Day 7, we checked out of our Airbnb and made our way back to Perth. Along the journey, we stopped at Fremantle Market for some local food, shopping, and sightseeing before returning to the city. After checking back into Crowne Plaza Perth, we spent our final two days exploring Perth's highlights, including the Blue Boat House, Swan River, Kings Park, Hay Street, King Street, and Murray Street. It was the perfect way to wrap up our Western Australia getaway before flying home.
