Sileiss Cheeesy Trip 🇨🇭
Just got back from Glarus, Switzerland—the land of epic mountains and even more epic cheese 🧀🏔️! If you're looking for a chill trip packed with good eats and alpine views, Glarus should be on your radar.
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Glarus Old Town
Stroll through the town center with its cute Swiss facades. Stop at Bachstrasse for local shops, and don’t miss the Glarner Rathaus (Rathausplatz 1, 8750 Glarus)!
2. Glarus Cheese Shop
A must for any cheese fan. Head to Molkerei Glarus (Bahnhofstrasse 17, 8750 Glarus, open 8am–6pm). Sample world-famous Glarner Schabziger—the green herb cheese! My tip: Don’t be shy about trying the cheese with pear schnapps, a local combo that totally slaps.
3. Lake Klöntal
For nature vibes, hit up Klöntalersee (easy taxi or bus ride from town center). The views will make your phone run out of storage.
4. Landsgemeindeplatz
Grab coffee at one of the cafés and watch local life go by. Try to be here on a market day for extra food stalls.
My Local Tips:
- The Glarner Schabziger cheese is pungent, green, and SO affordable compared to other Swiss cheese. Ask to try before you buy!
- Pair it with dark bread or slice it into your lunch sandwiches for next-level flavor.
- Molkerei Glarus staff are super knowledgeable; ask for cheese recipes, they may share secret family tips.
Getting Around:
Glarus is tiny, so walking rules. Local buses are reliable but not frequent—check times before heading out. For bigger day trips, trains connect easily to Zurich.
Food Recommendations:
If you love cheese, you’re set. Also try local “Birnenbrot” (pear bread) at bakeries—amazing with strong Swiss coffee!
Essential Tips:
Bring cash; smaller shops sometimes skip cards. Any season works, but spring and fall are prettiest for the valley colors and mild cheese (seriously).
