Goto travel guide and discussion

Goto Islands, just a 1.5-hour boat ride from Nagasaki City 🗾 Forget your daily worries and enjoy the rich natural scenery, tourist attractions, and local specialties! Located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Goto City is part of an archipelago of islands with a population of approximately 30,000, collectively known as the Goto Islands. This time, we visited Fukue Island! From Fukue Port, where we arrived by boat, we traveled by car. Traffic was light, making for a safe and enjoyable sightseeing drive. However, be careful when going to high ground or along the coast, as some roads are a bit steep and winding ⚠️ Goto is famous for Goto Udon! You can enjoy chilled udon noodles, characterized by their flat noodles, along with Goto beef. (Hot Goto Udon was also available.) If you want to experience nature, head to Onitake Mountain! ⛰️ You can feel the vast, endless expanse of land. You can also see the runway of Goto Fukue Airport from the hilltop, so if you're lucky, you can enjoy watching planes take off and land! ✨ There's also a Goto udon restaurant on the grounds of Onitake, so you can enjoy the scenery while taking a stroll after filling your stomach. If you want to see the ocean, head to Kojuko Beach! 🏝️ The crystal-clear water and white sand are beautiful. When I went, it was before the official beach season so there weren't many people, but apparently it's a popular beach among locals during the summer season. Also, the soft-serve ice cream you can buy at the souvenir shop is exquisite! 😋 It contains nigari (magnesium chloride) and comes in three flavors: vanilla, black tea, and mixed. 🍦 If you want to enjoy the sunset, head to Osezaki Lighthouse! ☀️ It's the place where the sun sets latest on the Kyushu mainland, and the view from the lighthouse is spectacular! A photo of the lighthouse and sunset together is sure to be a memorable and cherished image. Be aware that it's quite a distance to get to the lighthouse! ⚠️ When you come to Nagasaki, why not extend your trip beyond city sightseeing and explore the islands? * Goto Udon [Onitake Shiki no Sato] 📍 2873-1 Kami-Otsu-cho, Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture Business Hours: Cafe (lunchtime) 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM #Goto #Nagasaki #DayTrip

I recently went on a trip to Nagasaki after a long time!! I visited various places such as Dozaki, Mizunoura, and Kusuhara Church on Fukue Island in the Goto Islands. I also enjoyed lots of delicious food like Sara Udon, Champon, and fresh fish from the Genkai Sea, leaving my stomach completely satisfied 😋 And of course, the last thing to do on a trip is to buy souvenirs!! When it comes to Nagasaki souvenirs, it has to be "Nagasaki Castella" 💕 After trying and comparing many different shops over the years, here are my two recommendations: ❶ Fukusaya Fukusaya is famous for its "one-person, one-process" method, where a single craftsman handles everything from cracking the eggs to baking the castella. They are committed to handmade production without using mixers, resulting in a fluffy and moist texture. The batter has a subtly refined sweetness, which pairs perfectly with the coarse sugar at the bottom. ❷ Bunmeido Known for its famous commercial jingle, "Castella is number one, the phone is number two, Bunmeido is the snack for 3 o'clock♪," Bunmeido uses carefully selected ingredients such as "Nanban Eggs" developed with contracted farms and glutinous rice syrup. Their castella has a perfect balance of egg aroma and sugar sweetness. Please share your favorite castella recommendations too 😁

[Goto Islands] Minshuku on Fukue Island I wanted to stay at a minshuku in the Goto Islands. I thought a minshuku would give me a more local feel than a hotel. 😊 The guesthouse I stayed at this time, Minshuku Hamabe, is located in a quiet village about a 50-minute drive from the city center. The owner also runs a ferry service, and many guests seemed to enjoy fishing. 🐟 Thoughts✍️ ・The landlady was absolutely wonderful, and I was impressed with her hospitality!! ・The rice is absolutely delicious ・The fresh sashimi is enough for about two people 😂 　(The colors are similar, but it was an assortment of several types.) Facilities ・Toilets and baths are shared ・Baths are open until 10 PM, showers are open 24 hours ・Quiet (you can hear the waves) ・Yukatas, toothbrushes, and towels are provided ・Facing east, so the sunrises are beautiful ・Parking is available right on the waterfront 💡Nearby Attractions Imochiura Church Osezaki Lighthouse Daihoji Temple Koura Beach Daiho Beach The stars were beautiful at night 🌟 📍 #MinshukuHamabe 1083 Taiho, Tamanoura-cho, Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture 853-0413 𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠 A truly wonderful inn. The Goto Islands are made up of 129 islands, large and small. They're divided into two areas: Kamigoto in the north and Shimogoto in the south. This time, I visited Shimogoto for a two-day, one-night trip, focusing on Fukue Island. ✨ I flew from Haneda on Friday night and stayed the night before in Fukuoka. This allowed me to arrive on Fukue Island just after 9am! However, we recommend staying in Goto for at least two nights. 🥹 𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠 Part of the travel expenses ◾️Transportation to Goto Airfare (Fukuoka to Fukue) ¥12,910 Jetfoil (Fukue to Nagasaki) ¥8,510 ◾️Transportation within the island Rental car (2 days) ¥13,600 Seagull (Fukue ↔ Kuga Island) ¥1,580 Kuga Island taxi ¥9,000 (just under) ◾️Accommodation Bed and breakfast (1 night, 2 meals included) ¥7,500 + accommodation tax ◾️Other Dozaki Church Museum ¥300 Lunch, etc. Since we were traveling as a couple, rental cars and taxis were half the price above♪ 𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠𓇠 💡Information for late July 2025 By the way... Sunset was at 7:30 PM, but due to dinner at the guesthouse, we were unable to see the sunset from the Osezaki Lighthouse Observatory. If you're planning on going, be sure to check the sunset time and plan accordingly! Please note that Day 2 does not include lunch. lol While waiting for the boat to Nagasaki, we enjoyed curry at a lovely cafe on the second floor of the Fukue Port Terminal! Nagasaki in April, Fukue Island 𓂃 ✍︎______________________________________📍Karalit Goto Islands A hotel where you just want to look at the sea in silence. The room is compact, but there is an ocean view beyond the window. The bathroom was clean and I enjoyed my stay. The large public bath in the hotel is also comfortable and helps to relieve the fatigue of travel. · — \ What I tried /☑︎ I stayed in an Ocean Terrace Twin🔑☑︎ Participate in a free SUP experience by reservation! (The sea is quieter than you would imagine) There are also indoor activities to choose from! ☑︎ The atmosphere of the restaurant and front desk is wonderful, like a church. ☑︎ The simplicity is also recommended for solo travelers. · — The hotel I stayed at the day before was so good that the hospitality was honestly △. But it is the perfect place for those who want to "take their time enjoying the tranquility and nature." The sound of the tides from low tide to high tide is soothing. 📍 kinnagoajiro, Fukue Island This one-story inn was built by the owners together with the supervision of a young architect representing Japan, and is entirely made of Goto cedar wood. The owner insisted on using things that are kind to people and the environment. All amenities are from "MARK&WEB", and the kitchen utensils and furniture are from "Snow Peak" and "BALMUDA". It's very convenient and comfortable, so I highly recommend it💛 I'd like to stay here again next time I come to Goto🫶 I stayed here for three nights, but a typhoon hit me during my stay..I was actually stuck in my room for about 1.5 days, but I felt as comfortable as if I was at home🏠 This inn only has three rooms. 2 double bed rooms and 1 condominium suite I stayed in the "Condominium Suite", the largest room with a living room, kitchen and bed space Breakfast is included for guests staying in this room, and the owner will buy the bread for breakfast from a nearby bakery♡ Rental car and bicycle rental services available Condominium suite for 2 people per room Approximately 23,100 yen to 30,800 yen per night Check-in 15:00/ Check-out 10:00 📍kinnagoajiro 📮390 Matsuyama-cho, Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture 🚗25 minutes walk from Fukue Terminal, 10 minutes by car *Free shuttle to airport and port (reservation required) #Hotel review #Domestic travel #Goto Islands #Girls trip #Island trip #Nagasaki trip

I visited Shinkamigoto Town and Goto City for 3 days and 2 nights 😊✨ You can travel to the islands from either Nagasaki Port or Sasebo Port, but this time I went to the Goto Islands from Nagasaki Port. ・Shinkamigoto Town There is a lot of nature, and you can experience making camellia oil, Goto udon, and Yakame salt, so I highly recommend it for those who want to feel the local island vibe! You must try Goto udon! 🍴 ・Goto City There were many spots with great scenery and cute cafes! I recommend it for those who want to actively explore! I walked a lot and climbed stairs to sightsee 🚶 Both islands were wonderful 😊 Please refer to this schedule for your trip ✨

Shimashoku GINO, located on Fukue Island in the Goto Islands, is a wonderful restaurant where you can casually enjoy authentic Italian food made with rich ingredients from Goto. It stands alone in this beautiful rural landscape, but the sauce and dough of the pasta and pizza are authentic, and everything I ate was delicious✨ There are few restaurants for tourists in the Goto Islands (opening days and opening hours are much shorter than in the city center), so I recommend making a reservation for lunch or dinner. If you stop by here, be sure to take a stroll around Dondon Falls, which is nearby (3 minutes by car). #GotoIslands #Italian #SingleRestaurant #FukueIslandGotoIslands

[Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture] Takahama Beach, a natural beach in Shimogoto that is said to be the most beautiful in Japan🌊 The road next to it is a little further up the mountain, and the Gyoran Kannon is a hidden scenic spot🗾 The beach seen from above is a scenic spot when the weather is good🌎✨ Gyoran Kannon is one of the 33 Kannon Bodhisattvas, and holds a fish in its hand🐟 It is said that if you think about it, you can ward off the harm of rakshasas, poisonous dragons, and evil spirits🐉 #Remote Island Trip #Nagasaki #Trip to Visit Remote Islands #Goto Islands #Shimogoto #Stunning Seaside Scenery #Summer Trip #Stunning Scenery

[Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture] The Goto Islands are located in Fukue Takahama Beach is said to be the most beautiful natural swimming beach in Japan🌊✨ It is about a 50-minute drive from Fukue Airport, but it is a recommended spot that you should definitely rent a car and go to😊 The shallow white sand beach stretches for about 100 meters and is a spectacular sight🌈 There are also facilities for swimming, so feel free to come and enjoy the best sea🌊 There is an observation deck nearby that overlooks the beach, so don't forget to visit it🚗 #Remote Island Trip #Island Hopping Trip #Seaside Scenery #Summer Trip #Breathtaking Scenery

[Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture] A volcano with an altitude of 315m 🌋 The Goto Islands are located in Shimogoto In August, Ondake is covered in grass, like a computer wallpaper 🪟 The entire volcano is covered in grass, and on a nice day, you can take wonderful photos surrounded by nature with the sea in the background 🤳 The starry sky is also beautiful at night 🌠 It's less than 10 minutes by car from the airport, so if you rent a car, it's a spot you should definitely visit 😌 It seems that the whole area will turn brown in the fall, so I'd like to go again at that time 🌾 #Goto Islands #Shimogoto #Volcano #Remote Island Trip #Summer Trip #Breathtaking View

[Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture] Take the Taiko Ferry from Hakata Port to Fukue Island, the gateway to the Goto Islands⛴ Because the ferry departs late at night, you will arrive in Goto at 8:30am🕣 Yumen-ya, located at the ferry terminal, opens at 8am, so when you arrive, try Goto's specialty "Goto Udon" for breakfast🍜 You'll definitely be hooked on the thin, smooth noodles and the rich broth😊 It can also be used as a coffee shop, so it offers breakfast sets and pancake sets until 10am, and coffee, making it a versatile shop☕️ #Nagasaki #Goto Islands #Remote Island Trip #Summer Trip #Gourmet Trip

#slowtraveling Nakadori (center of the Goto Islands, ferry from Nagasaki Ferry Terminal, 2h25, ¥2,500, or jetfoil 1h30, ¥4,200) has a slow loop: from Arie Port, bus to Kashiragashima (30 min, ¥520, 6 buses a day), walk the 500m fishing-village lane to the 1991 Kashiragashima Bridge — a 110m pedestrian arch linking Nakadori to the tiny islet of Kashiragashima, where a 1900s brick lighthouse and a ¥100 honor-box seaweed cracker stall (cash) wait. I did the loop on a Friday: 8:00 ferry from Nagasaki, 10:30 bus to Kashiragashima, walked the bridge at 11:00 (wind off the Korea Strait, 3 fishing boats below), back to Arie for a ¥900 Goto udon (card OK), then the 16:40 ferry return. Mistake: doing it without checking the bus — 6 a day means a 2h wait if you miss the 10:30. Another: carrying big luggage — the ferry has coin lockers at Arie (¥400), use them. Rule: no fishing off the bridge (posted); no drone near the lighthouse (coast guard). Opinion: the Kashiragashima Bridge is the smallest international border feeling in Japan — you cross an arch, the sea changes color, and nothing else does. Discussion: when an island-hop is a 110-meter bridge, does the journey count as travel or just a longer sidewalk?

#NagasakiTrip #GotoIslandsFukueIsland #Sea #LighthouseScenery #TourismHistoricalMuseum #GhibliFan If you're sightseeing in the Goto Islands of Nagasaki, you absolutely must visit the [Yamamoto Nizo Museum]. The museum houses numerous works by Yamamoto Nizo, a local manga artist famous for his work on Ghibli films. Also, be sure to try the Champon at [Heian Shokudo] before you leave. I was deeply moved by the view of the sandy beach and sea from Fukue Island in the Goto Islands! On my Nagasaki trip, I went to Fukue Island in the Goto Islands. I signed up for a two-hour sightseeing bus tour, visiting various famous spots in Fukue, and the sea view was absolutely stunning. Even though I couldn't get close, just looking at it from afar, I was truly moved by the beautiful sea and the white lighthouse! Fukue Island has many tourist attractions, but they're geographically spread out, so you can't get around without a car... There are many famous places, such as the Nizo Yamamoto Museum (famous for Ghibli films) and the Goto Samurai Residence Ruins... I looked into what to do and found out that Goto Bus offers sightseeing bus tours for groups of 5 or more on certain days... so I quickly made a reservation and was able to participate! The tour lasted two hours, and we did a lot of sightseeing. I spent the next two hours on my own, visiting the Goto Tourism and History Museum and having a meal, and before I knew it, it was time to go home! It was so much fun... my first time setting foot on the Goto Islands and sightseeing! Incidentally, the Ishida Castle Goto Family Garden, a nationally designated scenic spot... unfortunately... had a "Closed" sign... I was really looking forward to it. Next time, I'd like to stay overnight and take my time...

#NagasakiChampon #LocalFlavor #Jetfoil #TripToTheGotoIslands #BoatTripVibes For lunch during my Goto Islands sightseeing, I went to the locally famous [Heian Shokudo] near the ferry terminal. The fried rice and champon were incredibly delicious... I ate too much! The walls were covered with celebrity autographs, and the restaurant had a Showa-era retro feel. I was full and relaxed after my meal. On my Nagasaki trip, I took my first jetfoil to Fukue Island in the Goto Islands. While a regular ferry takes 4.5 hours, the jetfoil gets you there in 2.5 hours!! The fare was 8800 yen one way, so it was a little under 20000 yen round trip, which isn't cheap, but it saves time. Also, the jetfoil is very smooth... but that also means there's a higher chance of cancellation... cancellations are only accepted until 4 PM the day before... the decision on cancellation is made one hour before departure... This means... if it's cancelled, the fare is refunded, but the bus tour fare isn't, and neither is the return jetfoil fare once it departs... I was nervous, but it departed safely... without any rocking at all It was so relaxing! Caution!! The boat left 5 minutes before departure time! You absolutely must board at least 10 minutes before departure! For meals, I recommend the Champon or Sara Udon at Heian Shokudo. For souvenirs, I recommend Kankoro Mochi.

This is Nawo House: Nawo was my favorite stay from my whole 5 weeks in Japan! Peaceful, traditional and modern at once: it was a dream come true. Nawo is located on Goto Island - an island all the way south of Japan. It is a holiday destination for Japanese, but most foreigners don't know about the island: it only gets around 1500 international tourists each year! Goto was one of the best places we visited: beaches, nature, goto beef (delicious wagyu!), fresh seafood & and the nicest locals who wanted to share their home & culture. HOW TO GET HERE: · Fly into Goto city (Fukue airport) or · Take the Ferry from Nagasaki city #japantravels #traditionaljapanese #japanculture #hiddengem

#springtravel Dozaki Church in Nagasaki Province is a breathtaking example of red brick architecture tucked away in a quiet cove. As the oldest Western style building on the Goto Islands, it carries a deep sense of history and resilience. The casual atmosphere of the surrounding fishing village makes the walk to the church feel like a peaceful journey back in time. Its striking red exterior contrasts beautifully with the deep blue waters of the bay, creating a perfect scene for anyone who appreciates unique coastal scenery. Inside, the church serves as a museum where you can explore the hidden history of local communities. The intricate vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows are simple yet elegant. It is a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the silence of the island while soaking in the rich cultural heritage.

On my last day in Shizuoka, I visited Dojima (also known as Sanshirojima) in Nishi-Izu. This is the collective name for four islands: Denbeijima, Nakajima, Okisejima, and Takashima. Unfortunately, the tide was high when I went, so I missed the "island-linking sandbar crossing." Locals say that if the tide is below about 50 centimeters at low tide, you can walk onto the islands (only leading to Denbeijima). The sandbar crossing appears at low tide and lasts about an hour. If you come again, you might want to check the tide table and walk that mysterious sand path, about 200 meters long and 30 meters wide, for me. · Afterwards, I boarded the Dojima sightseeing boat and headed towards the "Skylight Cave." Sunlight streamed down from the cave ceiling, making the seawater shimmer like jade, a dreamlike scene. · In the afternoon, I returned to the city. In the Mishima area, you can easily use Didi Chuxing (overseas version) to visit Rakujuen Garden in Mishima City. In this Meiji-era aristocratic villa, you can almost feel the warmth of life for the nobility of the past. Across the street, Shirai Falls Park is a free and tranquil spot in the city, where small, exquisite waterfalls cascade gently down the rock face. Along the Kashita River Park, the water is so clear you can see the veins in every pebble; you can easily lose track of time there. · Finish your journey with a meal at the century-old Sakura-ya Eel Restaurant. Founded in 1856, this restaurant is famous for its Kanto-style eel. The eel, carefully prepared with water from the Fuji River, has a tender texture and a refreshing flavor. The crispy, charred skin is coated in a rich sauce; the aroma of the oil blends with the warmth of the rice, spreading from your tongue to your heart. ✨ Travel Tips · Tide information is crucial for Sanshiro Island; be sure to check the daily tide forecast on the official website before you go. · Sakura-ya Eel Restaurant is popular; it's recommended to make a reservation in advance or avoid peak dining hours.
