Don't want to deal with the crowds this National Day? As a travel enthusiast, I'm sharing my experience: these 5 places are so uncrowded it feels like you've booked the whole place. Luzhou · Manzhouli · Dunhua · Longyan · Yulin 🍶 Sichuan · Luzhou The "City of Liquor," an underrated treasure in southern Sichuan where even the air smells like spirits. Must-visit: Luzhou Laojiao Tourist Area (admission ticket 35 yuan, includes free tasting of raw liquor), Yaoba Ancient Town, Zhangba Longan Forest, and enjoy the Yangtze River breeze on Binjiang Road. Must-eat: Luzhou white cake, Xuyong bean soup noodles, Gulin spicy chicken, and pork dumplings (zhuerba). 💡 City buses are 2 yuan for any ride; booking the Laojiao scenic area online in advance is safer. 🪆 Inner Mongolia · Manzhouli Located at the junction of China, Russia, and Mongolia, the streets are filled with onion-domed buildings, making it feel like you've stepped into a Russian fairy tale. Must-visit: Guomen Scenic Area (admission ticket 60 yuan, bring your ID), Matryoshka Square (best lighting after 4:00 PM), Mammoth Park, and the night view at Beihu Park. Must-eat: Cheese buns and borscht at Lubuli Restaurant, Mongolian pot tea with hand-grabbed meat, and street-style grilled milk skin. 💡 There's a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring a jacket; taxis don't use meters, so agree on the price in advance. ⛰️ Jilin · Dunhua A low-key small city in Yanbian Prefecture, offering Zen vibes at Liuding Mountain + Korean ethnic culture, with a very slow pace. Must-visit: Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area (admission ticket + sightseeing bus approx. 110 yuan, features the 48-meter bronze sitting Buddha at Jinding), Zhongcheng Korean Ethnic Ecological Village (free, you can rent ethnic costumes for photos), and watch the sunset at Yanming Lake Wetland. Must-eat: Yanbian cold noodles with guobaorou (sweet and sour pork), handmade rice cakes, and charcoal BBQ on Yiyang Food Street. 💡 The scenic area is spread out, so definitely buy the sightseeing bus ticket; Dunhua is a great stopover for the north slope of Changbai Mountain. 🏯 Fujian · Longyan Home to the UNESCO World Heritage tulou (earthen buildings) seen in "Big Fish & Begonia," plus hearty Hakka cuisine—worth a dedicated trip. Must-visit: Yongding Hongkeng Tulou Cluster (Zhencheng Building, the "Prince of Tulou," admission ticket 90 yuan), Gaobei Tulou Cluster (Chengqi Building, the "King of Tulou," joint tickets are more cost-effective), and a night tour of Changting Ancient Town. Must-eat: Steamed Hetian chicken, boji ban (steamed rice noodles), taro dumplings, clear soup noodles, and braised duck feet. 💡 Attractions are scattered, so renting a car or hiring a driver is most convenient; be sure to book your tulou homestay in advance during peak season. 🏜️ Shaanxi · Yulin An ancient city on the frontier + Danxia Wave Valley, featuring "Martian landscapes" on the Loess Plateau—uncrowded and stunning. Must-visit: Zhenbeitai (admission ticket 30 yuan, the "First Terrace of the Great Wall"), Hongshixia (cliff carvings, "Red Mountain Sunset" in the evening), and Jingbian Wave Valley (free, the "God's Fingerprint" is truly legendary). Must-eat: Yulin lamb paomo (pita bread soaked in lamb soup), pin sanxian (a local stew), youxuan (oily spiral pastry), and wantuo (buckwheat jelly). 💡 You can take taxis to attractions in the city; for Wave Valley, it's recommended to hire a car, which costs about 200 yuan per day. These five places are definitely worth visiting this National Day. Pick any one of them.

Taiping Ancient Town, a hidden gem in Gulin, Sichuan, tucked away in the Chishui River Valley. Untouched by commercialization, the old Ming and Qing dynasty houses are all perched on the cliffside. Back in the day, the Red Army crossed the Chishui River four times, and they crossed here twice. Walking through the alleys, you can feel the history all around you. ✨ Highlights to savor 📍 Long March Street: The stone paths wind and twist, with stilt houses on both sides that look crooked but are sturdy. The former sites of the General Headquarters, Red Army Bank, and hospital are still there, and locals still live inside, with no touristy trinkets in sight. 📍 Taiping Ferry Crossing: Go in the evening! Stand under the monument and watch the Chishui River bend. When the river valley breeze blows, you'll get goosebumps. 📍 Four Crossings of the Chishui River Exhibition Hall: Free admission. With hurricane lamps, bugle scores, and old rifles on display, it's a moving experience. 🗺️ A comfortable itinerary Exhibition Hall (1.5 hrs) → Leisurely stroll and photo op on Long March Street (1 hr) → Former General Headquarters site → Ferry crossing to wait for the sunset. Half a day is just right. 🍜 What to eat Try the Red Army tofu at the local hole-in-the-wall eateries; it's rich in soy flavor and goes perfectly with rice. Don't miss the Gulin spicy chicken either—it's glistening with red chili oil, and even if it makes you gasp for air, you'll keep reaching for more. 💡 Practical tips · No admission fee, and the exhibition hall is free too. Bring your ID. · Wear non-slip shoes! It's all stone steps, so high heels will be ruined. · If driving, navigate to "Taiping Ancient Town." Parking is available at the town entrance. · Don't rush. This place is for relaxing, not for rushed sightseeing.

Renhuai · Meijiuhe Salt Transport Town 📍Address: Meijiuhe Village, Renhuai City, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province Located on the banks of the Chishui River, it faces Sichuan across the water. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the mountain roads wind and twist around it 🏔️ 🌿In ancient times, Guizhou did not produce salt. This was once an important wharf for Sichuan salt entering Guizhou. Imagine the prosperity of a hundred years ago, with salt boats shuttling back and forth and merchants gathering. So many stories are hidden in this Chishui River~ 📜History seems to have stood still in this town. Weathered walls, old stone steps at the wharf. Walking on the bluestone path, every step feels like treading through the layers of time. Although it was a rainy day, it actually made the sense of antiquity even stronger🍃 Unfortunately, the town is a bit faded and quiet now... There are few tourists, and it is not overly commercialized. But it is precisely this tranquility that allows you to find peace and feel the traces left by time here. If you are looking for a quiet place to experience historical depth, this place is worth a visit~ The scenery on the mountain road drive is also stunning, with a unique charm on both sunny and rainy days.

Who would have thought? A soy sauce brewery is actually a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level! 📍Xianshi Ancient Town, Hejiang County, Luzhou, Sichuan On the north bank of the Chishui River in Hejiang County, Luzhou, Sichuan, the air is filled with a rich, mellow aroma of soy sauce. This is the Xianshi Soy Sauce Brewery complex, founded in 1893 (the 19th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty), which has been in continuous operation for over a century. 🌟Soy sauce that's both an Intangible Cultural Heritage and a National Heritage Site The brewing history of Xianshi soy sauce dates back to the Yuan Dynasty, with unique techniques originating in the Han Dynasty, flourishing in the Tang Dynasty, and peaking in the Qing Dynasty. It was named a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014, and the brewery became one of the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level in 2019—there are very few soy sauces in the country that hold both titles. 🌟6,000 soy sauce vats The most stunning sight is the sun-exposure field on the 45-degree slope by the Chishui River. Over 6,000 rustic ceramic vats are arranged in layers, like a silent army. The vats are covered in a soy glaze left by the passage of time, smooth and shiny. Artisans open the lids at set times every day to let the soy mash breathe fully. With sun during the day and dew at night, and over three years of natural fermentation, a single soybean transforms into a drop of soy sauce. The entire process uses only four ingredients: soybeans, wheat, salt, and water—it's incredibly pure. 🌟Scoop and taste soy sauce Here, you can scoop your own soy sauce and drizzle raw soy sauce. Staff members lift the lid, scoop up a spoonful of amber sauce, and let you have a taste—it's savory, mellow, and rich in layers, completely different from what you find in supermarkets. I hear there's even soy sauce ice cream and soy sauce coffee to try, which have a very unique flavor. 📸The thousand-year-old Xianshi Ancient Town After visiting the soy sauce brewery, don't forget to take a walk through Xianshi Ancient Town. This thousand-year-old town, founded during the reign of Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty, is one of the four great ancient towns of Hejiang. With its bluestone roads, old docks, and ancient archways, it lacks the noise of over-commercialization. The shops on the old street look like something out of a movie, and you can even find hand-woven straw sandals for sale. Xianshi Soy Sauce Chishui River Manor

hidden along the Chishui River in Gulin, Luzhou. It is a rare, pristine, and non-commercialized thousand-year-old town. Nestled against the mountains and facing the river, it is rich in ancient charm. There are no noisy trendy shops, only old houses with blue-grey tiles and the breeze from the river. It is very suitable for a short, healing getaway in September. The ancient town is open all day for free, with no admission ticket required, making for a relaxing and stress-free visit. Driving is the best way to get here. It takes about two hours from both Luzhou and Zunyi, and parking is convenient at the ancient town. For public transport, you can first arrive at Gulin County and transfer to a local bus that goes directly there. The entire town involves climbing stone steps, so I recommend wearing comfortable sneakers. The climate in September is mild and cool, with comfortable breezes by the river and small temperature differences between day and night, making it the best time of the year to visit. The main way to enjoy the town is a slow-paced, immersive stroll through the old streets. The entire old street is built along the mountain, with layers of well-preserved Southern Sichuan stilt houses. The winding bluestone paths offer retro and healing photo spots everywhere. The old street retains the atmosphere of local life, with old teahouses, small handicraft shops, and traditional residences scattered throughout, creating a wonderful ambiance. Don't miss the core cultural landmarks. The Taipingdu Exhibition Hall of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River is free to visit and provides a complete record of red history. The old streets and alleys are simple and solemn, full of historical depth. Walking to the Taipingdu Viewing Platform by the river, you can overlook the winding Chishui River and take in the scenery of both the Sichuan and Guizhou banks, offering a healing and expansive view. The local food is simple, authentic, and offers great value. You must try the time-honored river water tofu rice. The dipping sauce is fresh and fragrant, and the texture is tender and smooth. Gulin spicy chicken, twice-cooked bacon, and potato rice are all local specialties full of authentic flavor. You can enjoy a genuine home-cooked meal for about CNY 20–30 per person. There is no need to rush your itinerary. In the afternoon, take a walk by the river in the breeze, and in the evening, wait quietly for the lights of the old street to turn on—it is peaceful and healing. There are no crowds here, only the gentleness of old times. It is suitable for tourists who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy quiet cultural scenery, allowing you to immerse yourself in the gentleness and depth of this Southern Sichuan ancient town.

A Day in My Hometown | The Picturesque Village of Shuangsha, Gulin For this year's "National Day" holiday, many people will choose to go out and about. After being cooped up for so long, it's time to head out, soak up some sun, and get some fresh air. So, what are some fun places to visit around Luzhou! As a photographer, the places I recommend are always great for taking photos. This time, I'm recommending a spot that is absolutely perfect for photo ops! Recommended destination: Shuangsha Town, Gulin Recommendation rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1⃣ Gulin Shuangsha is known as a "picturesque village." In spring, there are hundreds of acres of rapeseed flowers; in summer, hundreds of acres of lush green rice fields; and in autumn, hundreds of acres of golden rice! Departing from Luzhou to Shuangsha Town, take the highway exit at Macheng Gaoqiao. Passing through Macheng, you can stop at the 30-year-old Youjia Chicken Hotpot for a meal. It costs CNY 35 per person—affordable and delicious. It's a culinary delight in Macheng, Xuyong! Once you've had your fill, head to Shuangsha Town. It takes about half an hour to arrive. When you get to Shuangsha Town, you have to take a walk along the riverbank—it's the perfect time to snap as many photos as you like! Tips: 1. When shooting full-body, half-body, or close-up shots, use a wide aperture and the telephoto end of your lens. The background blur will help highlight your subject and capture the beautiful colors and atmosphere of the rice fields. 2. If you're worried about nailing eye focus while shooting, turn on the eye-detection assist. The Z6 II's eye detection is very reliable, and you can even set it to prioritize the right or left eye, so you can use it with complete confidence. 3. When children are running or jumping, you can use RAW burst mode to easily capture clear shots. 4. When shooting a series of photos of the rural rice fields, the key is to highlight the harmony between people and nature. Using varied shot types and inserting scenery shots will make the images more narrative and visually rich. 5. Rural rice fields are a healing balm for the soul and a source of inspiration for photography. This shoot will combine more rural elements with people. By combining varied portrait compositions with different scenery shots and still-life shots, you can achieve a "healing" aesthetic.

! September–October is the perfect time to visit—average temperatures are 18–25°C, not too hot or cold. Zhangba Longan Forest has 500 mu of golden ginkgo leaves covering the ground, and Yuzixi Wetland Park has pink muhly grass that looks like clouds and mist. The best part is it's uncrowded, affordable, and the food is to die for! You can cover food, accommodation, and activities for 500 yuan per person for 3 days. This "hard-earned, no-nonsense guide" is for all the girls who want to go—I've already stepped in the traps, so you can just copy my itinerary👇 🗺️3-day, 2-night itinerary (copy-and-paste version) Day 1: Cultural tour of the Liquor City Morning: Arrive and head straight to the Luzhou Laojiao Tourist Area (tickets approx. 35–50 yuan)—dive into the "living" national treasure cellar pits that are over 400 years old; the aroma of distiller's grains hits you in the face. The light and shadows in the red-walled corridor next to the 1573 cellar pits are incredible. ⚠️Honestly: The scenic area isn't large. If you aren't buying liquor, you can finish touring in 15 minutes; there are more liquor stalls than interactive experiences. Afternoon: Go to Dongmenkou (remains of the Song Dynasty Tonghai Gate) → Bell and Drum Tower → Zhongshan Park (reopened on Sep 15! Forest book bar + traditional Hanfu experience hall). Evening: Chase the sunset along the Yangtze River on Binjiang Road, then eat at the Shuijinggou/Zhuzi Street night market. Day 2: Autumn scenery walking route Morning: Zhangba Longan Forest (free!)—in September–October, the 500-mu ginkgo avenue is covered in gold, with over 15,000 longan trees, most of which are over a century old. The sunlight filtering through the canopy in the Dragon Shadow Corridor is stunning. ⚠️I recommend going early in the morning or at dusk for the softest light. Afternoon: Go to Yuzixi Wetland Park (free)—it's peak season for pink muhly grass; the pink flower spikes look like clouds and mist. Wear a white dress for perfect photos. Return to the city in the evening. Day 3: Choose between an ancient town or the mountains Option A: Yaoba Ancient Town (free!)—old bluestone streets + old teahouses. It hasn't been overly commercialized; the oil-paper umbrella workshops and wooden door alleys are super photogenic. Option B: Fangshan Back Mountain Loop (tickets approx. 20 yuan)—about 10km in total. In autumn, the trails are covered in pine needles and maple leaves, and you might find chestnuts, pomelos, and persimmons. ⚠️There are many stairs on the mountain, so wear non-slip shoes. 🍜Food recommendations (my mouth is watering just writing this) 🍗Gulin spicy chicken—featured on "A Bite of China"! The chicken skin is crispy and falls off the bone, and the dipping sauce is rich and spicy 🥟Hongqiao pork dumplings + Luzhou white cake—hit all three "snack must-haves" on Cishan Road 🍜Xuyong pea soup noodles—thick pea soup with alkaline noodles, a local breakfast favorite 🍲Jiangmen meat-based tofu hot pot—an intangible cultural heritage flavor passed down for hundreds of years 🐟Hejiang grilled fish—a must-order for late-night snacks! You can find it everywhere at the Binjiang Road night market 🍢Shuijinggou Food Street/Jiajing Road Night Market—spicy hot pot, barbecue, grilled pig brain, and ice jelly are full of local vibes ⚠️Food prices around scenic areas are on the high side; try to choose old, established restaurants in the old town for main meals. Don't buy loose liquor at the scenic area entrance; the quality is inconsistent. 🏠Where to stay 📍Stay near Shuijinggou/Bao'en Pagoda—the heart of the old town, convenient for eating and shopping, chain hotels are 150–300 yuan/night 📍Stay near MixC/Financial Center—complete commercial facilities, walking distance to Jiale Golden Street for one-stop convenience 📍Luzhou Liquor City Hotel—right outside the Laojiao scenic area, with impeccable service details 📸Photo spots (every shot is legendary) ✨Zhangba Longan Forest Ginkgo Avenue—golden carpet in September–October, the peak of autumn ✨Yuzixi Wetland Park pink muhly grass—pink flower spikes like clouds and mist, perfect with a white dress ✨Zhongshan Park red walls and bamboo shadows—osmanthus fragrance permeates the bluestone path, full of traditional vibes ✨Red-walled corridor next to the 1573 cellar pits—excellent afternoon light and shadows, great for industrial-style photos ✨Yaoba Ancient Town Jinshi Archway + second floor of the old teahouse—bird's-eye view of the entire bluestone street ✨Baizitu Cultural Square Riverside Corridor—sunset + blue-hour night view seamlessly connected from 7:00 PM–8:30 PM ✨Xinxi Ancient Plank Road—full of golden fruit in September, ancient tree roots winding around stone steps for a dark forest vibe ⚠️Tips to avoid traps (Important! Every bit helps) 1. Don't have high expectations for the Luzhou Laojiao Scenic Area—tickets are 35–50 yuan, the area is small, and if you aren't buying liquor, you can finish touring in 15 minutes; there are more liquor stalls than interactive experiences. 2. Don't buy loose liquor at the scenic area entrance—quality is inconsistent; buy souvenirs at regular stores in the city. 3. Many residences in Yaoba Ancient Town are private areas—don't wander into courtyards for photos. 4. The paths in Zhangba Longan Forest are damp—the steps by the river are slippery, watch your step. 5. There are many stairs on Fangshan—wear non-slip shoes and keep quiet in the temple area. 6. Large temperature difference between day and night—in September–October, it's 25°C during the day (short sleeves), but it may drop below 15°C at night, so a light jacket is a must. 7. Music festival during National Day—the "Jiuyao" Music Festival runs for 4 days from Oct 3–6, book hotels in advance. 8. Don't throw away your high-speed rail ticket stubs—if you arrive in Luzhou by train before Sep 10, you can use your ticket to claim discount coupons (e.g., 30 yuan off 100 yuan). 9. Refuse scalpers selling local specialties on the street—it's safer to book scenic area tickets online in advance. 10. Beware of "unreasonably low-priced tours"—Luzhou is currently conducting a special crackdown on tourism market chaos. Luzhou is a severely underrated small city in southern Sichuan, with liquor aromas, autumn colors, delicious food, and a vibrant local atmosphere. But you still need to avoid some traps. This guide will help you save at least 200 yuan in wasted money💰 Take advantage of the beautiful autumn scenery in September–October and go for it🏃‍♀️

It’s been a long time since I’ve had the Kong rice I loved as a kid. I didn't expect this to be recognized as a Chengdu Intangible Cultural Heritage 🥘, so I made a special trip today to grab a bite. Seeing the iron pot brought straight to the table to cook the rice 🍚—the rice is first boiled until half-cooked, topped with ingredients, and then steamed for a solid 15 minutes ⏱️. When the lid is lifted, the aroma hits you instantly. The bits of cured meat are the highlight; the fat seeps into the rice, and the scorched rice at the bottom is perfectly crispy and fragrant 🔥. Gulin spicy chicken 🌶️—the numbing flavor is just right. Dip it in the red chili oil; the chicken is firm and delicious to chew. Stir-fried porcini mushrooms with baby pumpkin—the pumpkin melts in your mouth, and the mushrooms are incredibly fresh. Emei dragon whisker bamboo shoot chicken soup—the broth is milky white, and the bamboo shoots are so crispy. Everything I ordered was local Sichuan home-style cooking. Paired with a pot of hot Kong rice, it was incredibly satisfying. Kong rice—it’s exactly that classic taste from my memories.

Sichuan has no shortage of ancient towns, but Taiping Ancient Town is truly different. It's not one of those "restored to look old" imitation streets; it's a living fossil that literally "grows" on the cliffs of the Chishui River. When the Red Army crossed the Chishui River four times, the second and fourth crossings were both from here. Walking here, you're not just stepping on bluestone slabs, but on history🚩. ✨ Must-visit highlights 📍 Long March Street and Red Army Street: No hustle and bustle of barbecue skewers or milk tea, just layers of stilted buildings. The former sites of the Red Army General Headquarters, the bank, and the hospital are scattered among them, and the locals still live there, making it full of authentic local life. 📍 Taiping Ferry Memorial Monument: You must come in the evening! Standing under the monument overlooking the Chishui River, with the wind blowing through the valley, you'll truly understand the meaning of "majestic mountain passes." 📍 Exhibition Hall of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River: Free admission. Go see those rusty kerosene lamps and bugle scores; it's ten thousand times more moving than a textbook. 🗺️ Half-day leisurely route Exhibition Hall (1.5 hours) → Stroll and take photos on Long March Street (1 hour) → Former site of the General Headquarters → Sunset at the Ferry Memorial Monument. 🍜 Food When you're tired of walking, find a local "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant in town. The Red Army tofu is a must-order—rich in bean flavor and perfect with rice. Also, try the Gulin-style spicy chicken; it's glistening with red chili oil, so spicy it'll make you jump, but you won't be able to stop eating. 💡 Handy tips · Free! The exhibition hall is also free; just bring your ID. · Be sure to wear non-slip sneakers. It's all stone steps, and high heels will be a nightmare. · Driving yourself is most convenient. Navigate to "Taiping Ancient Town"; there are parking spaces at the town entrance. · It's recommended to set aside half a day to wander slowly. This place isn't for rushed sightseeing, but perfect for zoning out and listening to the wind.

Who says nature cannot be a perfectionist? Around 20 million years ago, volcanic activity shaped the basalt at Gulin Naobao into astonishingly regular hexagonal columns. Looking at the tightly fitted geometric patterns today, it is hard not to imagine that nature itself had an obsession with precision. The formations are a spectacular example of columnar basalt, created as thick lava cooled and contracted. Cracks developed through the rock in remarkably systematic patterns, producing the repeated polygonal shapes that make the landscape look almost artificially constructed. Millions of years later, the geometry remains strikingly clear. Hexagon after hexagon lines the ancient volcanic rock, creating an extraordinary contrast between the seemingly chaotic forces of an eruption and the mathematical order that emerged as the lava cooled. It is a reminder that some of Earth's most beautiful designs were created without an architect, a ruler or a blueprint. 📍 Gulin Naobao Basalt Formation, Inner Mongolia, China 🇨🇳 🚗 How to Get There: The site is best explored by private car or chartered vehicle, as it lies in a remote landscape with limited public transport. Plan the visit together with other nearby geological and grassland attractions, and check local road conditions before setting out. 📸 Photography Tip: Shoot from a low angle to emphasise the repeating hexagonal columns. Look for sections where the geometric patterns fill the frame, or use a person for scale to show just how enormous the formations are. ✨ Signature Feeling: Twenty million years of volcanic history arranged into nature's most satisfying geometry. If nature had a perfectionist side, perhaps this is what it would look like.

Lately, unavoidable work has been piling up, making me feel stifled. I just want to find an old riverside town to hide in for a few days. No need to rush to tourist spots; just wake up, follow the scent of food, and wander along the riverbank until sunset. I've compiled 4 riverside old towns I've personally tested and loved. The pace is so slow it gets into your bones—I almost canceled my return ticket.😌 Anqing✨ As the former capital of Anhui, Anqing's old town spreads out right along the Yangtze River. There are no crowded tour groups. The breeze is mixed with the savory scent of riverside restaurants and the sweet aroma of roasted snacks. It's the perfect blend of culture and local charm. Highlights Yingjiang Temple and Zhenfeng Pagoda, Yangtze River shoreline viewing area, Former Residence of Zhao Puchu, Linghu Park, Renmin Road old alleys Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in the afternoon, book a riverside homestay, drop off luggage, wander to Yingjiang Temple to climb Zhenfeng Pagoda, watch cargo ships drift slowly on the river, walk along the shoreline at dusk, and wait for the sunset to dye the river orange. Must-eat list Dananmen Beef Bun, Jiangmao Dumplings, Chicken Soup with Paochaomi, Mozi Su, Yingjiang Temple Vegetarian Meal Tips The river breeze is 2 degrees cooler than downtown, so bring a light jacket for the evening. The alleys are narrow and hilly, so shared e-bikes are more convenient than driving. The stairs to Zhenfeng Pagoda are steep, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Luzhou✨ The Tuojiang and Yangtze rivers collide in Luzhou to create a gentle bay. The slow pace of this "Liquor City" is soaked in a faint aroma of alcohol. The old town is built along the riverbank slopes; turn a corner and you'll run into a river view. The locals live such relaxed lives. Highlights Luzhou Laojiao Tourism Area, Binjiang Road leisure belt, Bell and Drum Tower, Bao'en Pagoda, Zhangba Longan Forest Itinerary Day 1: Stay in a small homestay near the river in the old town, visit the Luzhou Laojiao Tourism Area in the afternoon to smell the liquor aroma filling the streets, stroll along Binjiang Road at dusk, watch locals walk dogs, drink tea, and square dance, and wait for the night lights of the two rivers. Day 2: Eat a bowl of spicy noodles in the morning, visit the Bell and Drum Tower and the old alleys around Bao'en Pagoda, and spend the afternoon walking in the Zhangba Longan Forest (you can even pick longans by the road in summer). Must-eat list Luzhou White Cake, Lun Jiao Cake, Gulin Spicy Chicken, Hejiang Grilled Fish, Luzhou Cold Noodles Tips The old town has many slopes, so don't wear high heels. The local teahouses on Binjiang Road are very affordable, so just pick one that's busy. It's hot at noon in summer, so try to go out in the morning or evening. Zhenjiang✨ The Yangtze River and the Grand Canal meet in Zhenjiang. This thousand-year-old city has none of the restlessness of a tourist city. The whole city is filled with a faint scent of vinegar. There are historical sites every few steps in the old districts, and prices are so low you won't feel guilty eating for 3 days straight. Highlights Xijindu Historical and Cultural Block, Beigu Mountain, Zhenjiang Museum, Boxian Road Old Street, Yangtze River Ecological Wetland Park Itinerary Day 1: Stay in a homestay converted from an old house near Xijindu, walk on the bluestone roads of Xijindu in the afternoon, climb the high platform to see the Yangtze River view, and eat a bowl of hot pot-lid noodles nearby in the evening. Visit the Zhenjiang Museum in the afternoon, then wander around the old alleys of Boxian Road. Day 3: Wake up and walk the wooden boardwalk at the Yangtze River Wetland Park, watch water birds flying in the reed marshes, and pick up 2 bottles of Hengshun Vinegar as souvenirs at a supermarket before leaving. Must-eat list Pot-lid noodles, Yaorou (cured meat), Crab roe soup dumplings, Vinegar-flavored pork strips, Duck blood vermicelli soup Tips Xijindu is very quiet on weekdays, making for a great experience. Attractions are close to each other, and taxis are basically at the starting fare. Don't buy expensive vinegar at tourist spots, as local supermarkets have the same product for half the price. Wuzhou✨ The Xunjiang River flows through Wuzhou. This is the old town with the most Cantonese flavor in Guangxi. Rows of arcade buildings are built along the riverbank. The scent of tea from the morning market drifts for half a street. At night, the river breeze carries the aroma of snacks. The sense of relaxation is maxed out. Highlights Qilou City, Longmu Temple, Sizhou Island, Xijiang Pearl Tower, Baihe Taoist Temple Itinerary Day 1: Stay in a river-view homestay near Qilou City, walk through the century-old arcades in the afternoon, watch locals cooling off and playing chess at their doorways, wait for the sunset by the river at dusk, and visit the Qilou night market for snacks in the evening. Day 2: Wake up early for Cantonese morning tea, climb Longmu Temple in the morning to overlook the city and river view, and go to Sizhou Island in the afternoon for a walk around the island to watch fishing families mending nets by the river. Day 3: Visit Baihe Taoist Temple in the morning, stop by the old alleys to buy handmade herbal jelly and Bingquan soy milk powder, and head back slowly. Must-eat list Bingquan soy milk, Original herbal jelly, Paper-wrapped chicken, Boat congee, Snail chicken pot Tips Old shops in Qilou City open late, so no need to rush. It's hot and humid in summer, so try to go out in the morning or evening and hide in shops for sugar water at noon. Buy freshly made snacks at the river night market, as they all taste good. You really don't need to save up for a long holiday to travel far. Just find a small riverside town like this, stay for 2–3 days, no need to set an alarm or rush your itinerary. The moments when you zone out looking at the river are more relaxing than just lounging at home.🥰

If you're worried about getting tired, just pick one city and stay for two days. There's no need to rush or suffer through traffic jams😌

🚌 [Transportation tips] To be honest, Luzhou in September is still brutally hot during the day, with a daily average of 33–36°C and a heat index that can hit 42°C. Taking the high‑speed train to Luzhou Station is the most hassle‑free option; taxis outside the station have a low starting fare, and rides within the city usually cost about CNY 10–15. The airport has a free shuttle to the city—board with your ID. For city sights, I recommend a mix of taxis and walking; to get to Yaoba Ancient Town you can take a shuttle from the Luzhou Passenger Transport Center. I don't recommend driving into the city—the old town's roads are narrow and steep, driving is really miserable, even the GPS would cry 😅. 📸 Photo spots to check out I'll list them roughly in the reverse order I scouted them. The riverside road at the East Gate, where the two rivers meet, is the ultimate photo spot—one river is clear, the other muddy, a sharp contrast, and at sunset the whole river turns golden; the river breeze makes everyone look great🌅. Yaoba Ancient Town's bluestone streets and red lanterns are perfect for wearing a qipao or hanfu, the photo success rate is very high; in the oil‑paper umbrella alley, carry a heritage oil‑paper umbrella and spin for a shot—the Miyazaki vibe appears instantly. At Zhangba Longan Grove, put on a straw hat and carry a woven bag; shoot backlit under the century‑old longan trees for easy, forest‑style editorial photos🌳. Luzhou Laojiao Guojiao Square's vintage stone steles and fermentation pits, with the scent of distillery mash, give photos a slightly tipsy atmosphere🍶. 🗺️ Super detailed itinerary Day 1: city wine route: In the morning head to the Luzhou Laojiao tourist area. Ticket CNY 35; it's best to go around 10 AM to see the brewers at work and try free samples of 68° original spirit. Light drinkers should sip just a bit—I was greedy and had a couple more, and in the afternoon I almost fell asleep on a bench in Zhongshan Park 🥲. For lunch try Cishan Road or Xiao Xiangzi Old Street. In the afternoon visit Zhangba Longan Grove—September is longan season and the century‑old trees form a dense canopy. Rent a shared bike for CNY 20 an hour to ride along the river; the Yangtze sunset is stunning. In the evening eat and drink at Shuijinggou Night Market. Day 2: ancient town and culture: A 40‑minute taxi gets you to Yaoba Ancient Town; admission is free. It's a filming location for Da Hong Rice Shop, with bluestone streets and Ming‑ and Qing‑style arcade buildings, and light commercialization. For lunch try red‑soup mutton and freshly steamed huangba. In the afternoon visit the Fenshui oil‑paper umbrella workshop and hand‑paint a hibiscus umbrella for CNY 50 to take home—the translucent oil paper creates dynamic light and shadow when you spin the umbrella, perfect for artsy shots. Day 3: pick one: For those with stamina, head to Huangjing Old Forest. Ticket CNY 50. The Bajiedong waterfall cluster sends mist in your face; hike the cycad valley—96% forest coverage makes it feel like only the low 20s °C, a perfect summer escape in September🌿. If you prefer culture, visit the Luzhou Museum (free with reservation) and focus on the Song‑dynasty stone carvings. 🎫 Ticket booking Luzhou Laojiao tourist area ticket CNY 35—book in advance on Ctrip to skip the line. Luzhou Museum is free but requires a reservation; note it's closed on Mondays. Yaoba Ancient Town is free; small internal sites like Wang Chaowen Former Residence have an optional combo ticket for CNY 30. Huangjing Old Forest adult ticket CNY 50, student ticket CNY 25. Zhangba Longan Grove is free, and a sightseeing shuttle is optional for CNY 20. 🥘 Local food recommendations Gulin spicy chicken dipped in house chili powder, finger‑licking good, around CNY 40 per person Luzhou white cake from a longtime shop, CNY 3 each, fragrant rice flavor, perfect with soy milk Huangba, glutinous rice wrapped in liangjiang leaves and steamed, melt‑in‑your‑mouth texture, CNY 5 each Zhu'erba, thin skin and a big, juicy filling—works sweet or savory Xuyong bean soup noodles, yellow soybeans slow‑simmered into a rich broth with minced meat, a breakfast staple Hejiang grilled fish; in Shuijinggou, Zengsan grilled fish is the local crowd favorite Lianggao and liangxia, summer heat savers—after spicy food, a bowl is life‑saving 🧊 🚫 Tips to avoid pitfalls My dumbest mistake this trip: wearing leather dress shoes to hike Huangjing Old Forest—the stone steps at Bajiedong waterfalls are slippery and I nearly wiped out. Wear non‑slip sneakers 👟. In September Luzhou's UV index is 7–8—not the worst, but the river reflection is strong; if you don't apply enough sunscreen your face will suffer the next day. The riverside has big day‑to‑night temperature swings, so bring a light jacket for mornings and evenings. I dressed for photos in a camisole and froze at night at the East Gate in the river breeze 🥶. Luzhou food leans numbing and spicy—if you can't handle heat, be sure to ask for mild spice in advance, otherwise you'll end up crying with a runny nose. Some small shops in the old town only accept cash, so bring small change—last time in Yaoba I couldn't pay by mobile for a huangba and it was painfully awkward. When buying baijiu, stick to Luzhou Laojiao's official stores. Those ten‑year cave‑aged bottles around scenic areas selling for under CNY 100 per jin are mostly blended—don't make the same dumb mistake I did last year 😅. The upside of September is that it's not the National Day crush. September is just after summer vacation and before the National Day holiday, so you can get a river‑view homestay for just over CNY 200 and save about 40 minutes in attraction queues—fewer people and better prices is the right way to experience Luzhou ✨. When booking tickets or hotels on Ctrip, check the day's price in advance—prices fluctuate a lot during holidays.

Friends! If you're still debating where to go this weekend, you're really missing out! Today, I have to highly recommend this "divine backyard garden" hidden in Luzhou—Zhangba Longan Forest. It's the largest and oldest longan forest on the Tropic of Cancer in China. Just hearing that name makes you want to go, right? 🌳 Key highlights: Just how "wow" is this place? 🌿 Ancient trees that will blow your mind There are over 15,000 longan trees, folks! More than 4,000 of them are "grandpa and grandma" level, over a century old. Walking in doesn't feel like visiting a park; it's like entering a forest museum. Every tree is a living "green antique," and their botanical value is comparable to the "giant panda of the animal kingdom" 🐼. That's pretty impressive, right? 🍃 Oxygen high With over 85% vegetation coverage, there are so many negative oxygen ions that even breathing feels sweet. Along the 10-mile green corridor, you have the century-old forest on one side and the rolling Yangtze River 🌊 on the other. One breeze from the river, and all that work stress vanishes—your worries are just blown away! 📜 Endless 300-year-old stories Planted back in the Qing Dynasty during the "Huguang fills Sichuan" migration, the Zhang Family Courtyard and the ancient stage are still standing right where they were. Depart from Guiyang and drive two hours to Maotai town via highway. Parking in Maotai town is limited, so you can charge your vehicle at Maotai International Hotel and then explore on foot. The main attraction is the China liquor culture city, built in the old Maotai distillery area. Admission is 60. After visiting Maotai town, head north along the Chishui River Valley tourist highway. In one hour, you’ll reach the Xijiu liquor valley scenic area. Along the way, you can see the liquor river cliff carvings. Both attractions are free. The Xijiu liquor valley is actually the Xijiu exhibition hall, with the distillery right behind it. After the visit, drive 25 minutes to Langjiu estate, the headquarters of Langjiu. The estate is currently closed to the public and only open to members by invitation, but some production areas are still open for visits. Touring the three most famous sauce-flavored liquor distillery areas in China is well worth it.

🌲 Break into the cloud paradise of southern Sichuan’s summer retreat! A healing journey through Luzhou Luohan Forest --- 🏔️ The secret cloud realm at Luzhou’s peak can no longer be hidden Luohan Forest, located in Fenshui Town, Xuyong County, Luzhou, is called the “peak of Luzhou” because its main peak reaches 1,902 meters. It’s also the ecological heartland where Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces meet. Summer temperatures average only 18 to 25 degrees Celsius. With 98% forest coverage and an abundance of negative oxygen ions, it’s open all day with no admission fee. Netizens call it the ultimate summer retreat in southern Sichuan. 🌄 What to do: sea of clouds forest and mountaintop sunrise Climb to the Cloud Pavilion or the 1,902-meter viewing platform before 5:30 AM. After rain, the sea of clouds surges, and the golden sunrise frames the distant Wumeng Mountains. The view spanning three provinces from one mountain is breathtaking. The vast black pine forest is like southern Sichuan’s version of the “Twilight Forest.” Pine needles cover the wooden boardwalks, and morning sunlight filtering through the treetops often creates a Tyndall effect. There are almost no mosquitoes in the forest. In summer, you can hike routes ranging from 1 to 6 hours wearing long pants. Walking along the lakeside at Longdong Reservoir and the sea of calendula flowers is incredibly soothing. At Qingqing Farm, kids can get up close with sika deer, alpacas, and rabbits. Plan to spend half a day here to enjoy it fully. Artsy visitors must check out Yunlu Academy and the lifestyle aesthetics museum, where you can see intangible cultural heritage displays like Miao batik and Gong sandpot crafts. 🗺️ How to get there and exact address The scenic area is in Yangzi Bay, Fenshui Town, Xuyong County, Luzhou, Sichuan Province. Navigate to “Yunduan Luohan Forest” or “Luohan Forest Tourist Area.” It’s about a 4-hour drive from Chengdu, 2 hours from Yibin, and 2 hours from downtown Luzhou. The parking lot is free and very large. For high-speed rail travelers, get off at Weixin Station (about 2 hours from Chengdu), then take the direct shuttle to the scenic area for about 15 yuan per person. The shuttle takes 30 minutes and the last bus leaves at 6 PM. The scenic area is open 24/7 year-round, so you can visit anytime. 🏡 Accommodation and authentic flavors: options for every budget If you want to stay in a mountaintop cabin with a view of the stars and clouds right outside your window, choose Shangyuan Yunqi Homestay or Songlinju Cabin. Book at least two weeks in advance during peak season. For budget-friendly options, stay in homestays or farmhouses in Fenshui Town at the foot of the mountain. Must-try dishes include Xuyong spicy chicken (numbing, spicy, and fragrant), Luohan bamboo shoots stir-fried with cured meat (a local specialty that’s crisp and tender), matsutake mushroom soup, and Gulin bean soup noodles (the ultimate breakfast). Expect to spend 40 to 80 yuan per person for a satisfying meal. ⚠️ Must-read before traveling: safety and opening reminders Please contact the scenic area in advance to confirm the day’s opening status. Mountain weather changes quickly, and there’s a big temperature difference between the peak and the base. Bring a windbreaker for mornings and evenings. UV rays are strong on sunny days, so protect your skin. Roads are slippery when wet, so wear anti-slip hiking shoes. Cell signal is weak near the forest edges, so download offline maps beforehand. Practice leave-no-trace principles by carrying out all your trash to protect this pure southern Sichuan wilderness 🌍 Wishing you a cloud-filled sunrise hike, returning refreshed and relaxed from the mountains 🌱🌄

Taiping Ancient Town in Gulin County, Luzhou, Sichuan, a riverside ancient town that even locals might not know about. Century-old wooden houses by the river, old alleys paved with bluestone, riverside walkways… when the sunset shines through, the light and shadows fill the scene, and every photo looks like a classic period film. Want to quietly daydream alone? Sit by the river all afternoon, feel the river breeze, and all your worries will fade away.🌿 🍜 The food is super honest: handmade leaf rice cakes for 5 yuan, fresh fish noodles for 12 yuan, traditional cold jelly for just a few yuan—all made by locals, no inflated prices like those trendy spots. I ordered three dishes and spent less than 30 yuan, feeling completely satisfied. 🏠 Want to stay overnight? Farmhouse homestays cost 80 yuan, and opening the window gives you a river view. At night, it’s so quiet you can hear the birds sing. This is the true slow life, way better than those trendy homestays that charge over a thousand yuan. 📸 Photo tips: The best light is from 2 PM to 6 PM. Wear a cotton-linen long dress or modern Hanfu, stand in the bluestone alley, avoid crowds, and you’ll be the most enchanting person on the whole street. Don’t forget to take photos of the old houses and river by the water—it’s incredibly soothing. ⚠️ Avoid pitfalls: No mandatory spending, ignore street touts, and take half a day to explore slowly. The temperature difference between morning and evening is big, so bring a light jacket. Honestly, I’m tired of crowded tourist spots. Places like this, quiet and off the beaten path, are the real healing spots for hardworking people. Don’t stay home this weekend—bring your family or go alone and just unwind.💖

Finally, a little-known ancient town in Sichuan that rejects commercialization has been discovered. No admission fee, no crowded tourists, and no copycat Yiwu souvenir shops. Only stilted buildings rising by the river, moss-covered stone steps, and the misty breeze blowing from the Chishui River. Walking on the mottled stone paths, time seems to slow down to half speed. Afternoon sunlight slants across the old wooden window frames, casting shadows full of stories. No need for filters or fighting for the perfect shot—here, you are part of the picture. Quietly stroll and pause, or sit by the river and daydream; your soul will be healed. There is no noise here, only life as it was meant to be.
