🌸 For those planning to enjoy the begonia blossoms this weekend, it is recommended to enter the park through the South Gate. Currently, the best blooming begonias are mostly concentrated in the southern area of the park. Popular photo spots like Mochou Water Courtyard and Huayan Temple are also closer to the South Gate. The begonias at the Water Courtyard are still in bud stage (see photos 16/17), but the begonias along the lakeside path from the Water Courtyard are blooming nicely (see photos 5/6/7). 🌸 The blooming season is approaching, just waiting for you to come! The host updates the begonia bloom status at Mochou Lake daily, please check the homepage for updates. 🌸 Mochou Lake Park is the largest specialized begonia garden in East China, featuring over 40 varieties and tens of thousands of begonia plants. It is free to enter and accessible directly by subway. Besides common varieties like Tiegeng Begonia, Weeping Begonia, and Xifu Begonia, there are also premium varieties such as Mochou Red, Snow White, and Dragon-shaped Begonia. 🌸 A lake of spring water, banks full of blossoms, gently hiding the warmth of Jinling in your eyes. No crowds, free flower viewing with direct subway access, fully healing. 🌸 Here is a suggested blooming sequence for the begonias: Early-blooming Begonias: Mid to late February through March, already blooming. Main varieties include Tiegeng Begonia, Papaya Begonia, and Dragon-shaped Begonia, mostly red in color. 🌸 Peak-blooming Begonias: Usually from late March to early April. Main varieties are Weeping Begonia and Xifu Begonia, which the host updates daily. They bloom in large, lively, and vibrant pink flower seas. 🌸 Late-blooming Begonias: Usually bloom in April. Main varieties are Hubei Begonia and Purple-flowered Begonia. The spring breeze brings a promise, the begonias await, blooming in turn, gently warming the whole spring 🌸

Honestly, if you’re in Wuhan and want to escape the crowds for a weekend without traveling too far, I highly recommend Hanchuan’s Tiaochahu National Wetland Park. I took my family there last month and got asked countless times “Where is this?” so I decided to put together a guide to save me from replying one by one. Here’s the bottom line: this is a hidden “Jianghan pearl” on the Jianghan Plain, one of the largest inland enclosed freshwater lakes in China, covering over 80 square kilometers with more than 98% wetland area. The best part—it’s just over an hour’s drive from downtown Wuhan, so it’s easy to visit on a whim. 🚗 Best way to get there Driving is the top choice. From Wuhan, take the Huyu Expressway then switch to the Wujing Expressway, exit at Hanchuan, and continue straight on Tiaochahu Avenue. The whole trip is about 85 km and under 1.5 hours. The park has free parking, but it’s best to arrive before 9 AM. After that, parking spots get tight and you may have to park in overflow areas. If you don’t drive, take the high-speed train from Hankou Station to Hanchuan Station (about 30 minutes), then a 10-minute taxi ride to the east gate. Taxi fares within the city are reasonable, so it’s quite convenient overall. A quick tip: there are no gas stations inside the lake area, so fill up before you go. The park enforces a no-car policy in the core area—you can only walk or rent an electric cart (about 20–30 yuan per hour). 🌿 When to visit? Depends on what you want to see This is especially important because Tiaochahu feels like four different places across the seasons: June to August: prime lotus viewing season. Tens of thousands of acres of lotus bloom, truly “lotus leaves stretch to the sky.” The boat captain told me late July to early August is peak bloom, with pink and white flowers covering the lake and the air filled with sweet lotus fragrance. December to March: birdwatching season. The contrast is amazing—while the lake looks bleak in winter, it becomes a paradise for migratory birds. Tens of thousands of swans, white egrets, and bar-headed geese gather here, making it a treasure trove for nature photographers. Spring and autumn focus on reeds, lake views, and leisurely strolls, which are also very pleasant. 📸 How to explore? My suggested route Enter from the east gate and go clockwise for the easiest walk: Birdwatching platform/tower: The second floor offers wide views. Before 9 AM, it’s quiet with soft light and flocks of egrets flying—very soothing. In winter, this spot turns into a swan-watching point. Lotus boardwalk (Nine-bend bridge): A kilometer-long wooden walkway stretches deep into the lotus pond, giving you the real “fish playing among lotus leaves” vibe. Great for silhouette portraits. Boat dock: Highly recommend taking a ride on a traditional wooden boat through the lotus sea. About an hour long, it offers a classical “lotus song at night” experience. Key point: choose the wooden boat for the best lotus views, not the faster options. Wetland science center: A blessing for families with kids. It has air conditioning and interactive exhibits, perfect for a rest. Lake center pavilion: Great for wide-angle shots of “water and sky blending,” best in the afternoon light. If you have elderly or kids, you can take the shuttle bus (about 10 yuan per person) from the east gate to the science center, then stroll back slowly. The whole walk is less than 1 km and not tiring. 🍜 Food! This is the real highlight Coming to Tiaochahu without eating fish is a missed opportunity. The lake-raised bream, bighead carp, and qiaozui white fish have firm flesh with no muddy taste, totally different from farmed fish elsewhere. Must-try: stir-fried yellow eel hot pot. Stir-fried over high heat with garlic and green peppers, the eel meat is so tender it’s hard to pick up with chopsticks. I could eat three bowls of rice with it. Whole fish feast: bighead carp served two ways. The fish head is stewed into a milky, rich soup, and the fish body is stir-fried with garlic. There are also handmade fish balls and a hot pot with mixed fish balls, all tender and fresh. Lotus pond fish dish: freshly dug royal lotus cut into chunks and cooked with fish. The lotus root holes soak up the fish broth, bursting with juice in every bite. It costs just over 30 yuan per serving—ridiculously affordable. Breakfast: head back to Hanchuan town for morning noodles or rice noodle soup with fried dough sticks. The broth is rich and it’s a local daily ritual. Lake area restaurants cost about 40–70 yuan per person. You can also grab fish balls from nearby Makou town to take home. 💡 Tips & avoid pitfalls Sun and mosquito protection: The lakeside has no shade or barriers, UV rays are strong, and mosquitoes are fierce. Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, and insect repellent. Bring your own water and snacks: There are few convenience stores in the park, so come prepared. Buy boat tickets in advance: During peak season, boat lines are long. Book online if you can to avoid waiting. Respect the lotus: Don’t pick flowers or leaves. Wear life jackets on boats—this is both a rule and a safety measure. Check “Hanchuan Culture & Tourism” for lotus bloom and bird updates: it has the most accurate real-time info. Final thoughts: Tiaochahu isn’t just a “check-in and photo” spot. It’s more like a slower way of life—waking up to the scent of lotus, spending the day watching birds, water, and reeds, and ending with fish head and soup. If you’re tired of typical tourist traps, this water town just a step from Wuhan is definitely worth a special trip. I want to go back in winter to see the swans and will share more then~

👺 Itinerary: ✅ Two-day easy route (best for self-driving) Day 1: Breakfast exploration → Fairy Mountain Park & Fairy Mountain Temple → Hanchuan Park → Dangma Ferry Terminal (wait for the ferry and watch the sunset) → Makou Tongda old-brand barbecue Day 2: Huanglong Lake Makou pottery culture base → Qili Maopeng Temple → Xiacha Lake Wetland Park → Tianyu Lake resort area return 💡 If short on time, choose the one-day simplified version: Fairy Mountain → Hanchuan Park → Dangma Ferry Terminal → lunch tasting Erhe Sanzheng, then visit either Xiacha Lake or Tianyu Lake in the afternoon. ⛱️ Must-visit attractions: ▫️ Fairy Mountain Park & Fairy Mountain Temple: A rare isolated peak in the Jianghan Plain urban area, easy to climb for a panoramic city view. The ancient temple halfway up the mountain is peaceful and quiet, perfect for a calm stroll. ▫️ Hanchuan Park: A free city park along the Han River with lakes and greenery, ideal for leisurely walks and experiencing the local slow-paced lifestyle. ▫️ Dangma Ferry Terminal: An old-style Han River ferry still in operation, tickets cost 2 yuan. The diesel-powered ferry offers a nostalgic vibe, and the sunset over the river creates an exceptional atmosphere. ▫️ Huanglong Lake Makou pottery culture base: A 500-year-old intangible cultural heritage kiln site where you can try handcraft pottery and get up close with Chu pottery culture. ▫️ Qili Maopeng Temple: A lesser-known ancient temple on the city outskirts with red walls and old trees. Few tourists visit, making it a great place to relax and meditate away from the noise. ▫️ Xiacha Lake Wetland Park: A well-known inland freshwater lake in Hubei with distinct seasonal scenery. Summer features lotus ponds, while autumn and winter offer birdwatching and reed marshes. ▫️ Tianyu Lake resort area: Open lake views with a lakeside greenway, featuring a beach and hot springs. You can bike or try water activities, making it a top choice for leisure vacations. ▫️ Makou Town 09 old community: A renovated old textile factory dormitory area with a vintage industrial atmosphere, perfect for quiet strolls and photography. 🍜 Food guide: 🌞 Breakfast favorites Eel noodles: Freshly stir-fried eel pieces with a rich aroma, a signature Hanchuan breakfast; thick soup noodles paired with fried dough sticks, with a smooth and rich broth; mixed soup with fresh flavors and tender pork liver. Also try the special sweet-filled rice cake with a unique crust. 🍲 Main meal specialties Erhe Sanzheng: A local signature cuisine centered on steamed eel. Boneless eel wrapped in rice noodles and steamed, then topped with sauce for a fresh and flavorful taste; Makou bean curd skin has a strong bean aroma, great for stir-frying or cold dishes. 🌙 Late-night snack recommendation Makou Town barbecue street offers charcoal-grilled flavors, paired with stir-fried bean curd skin and a bowl of mixed soup, a favorite late-night combo among locals. 🏨 Accommodation guide: ▪️ For convenience: Choose hotels in downtown Hanchuan near Fairy Mountain and Hanchuan Park. The area has many breakfast spots and diverse dining options, with moderate travel times to all attractions. ▪️ For leisure vacations: Stay at resorts around Tianyu Lake with lake views and hot springs, ideal for visitors seeking quiet relaxation away from the city. ▪️ For a niche cultural experience: Choose guesthouses near Makou Town, close to the pottery base and barbecue street, perfect for in-depth exploration of the old town’s culture. 💗 Other tips: 1. Transportation advice: Attractions are relatively spread out, so self-driving offers the most comfort. Public transit is limited, so allow plenty of time for cross-region travel. High-speed trains from Wuhan reach Hanchuan Station in 23 minutes, but metro transfers to buses take longer. 2. Photo timing: Arrive at Dangma Ferry Terminal half an hour before sunset for golden river reflections that make great photos. Afternoon light at Fairy Mountain Temple is soft and ideal for traditional-style shots. 3. Travel style: Hanchuan has no large popular amusement facilities. It focuses on a relaxed pace, perfect for visitors who enjoy quiet walks and local life, but not for those seeking intense sightseeing. 4. Food tips: Don’t insist on trendy restaurants. Small shops in the old town neighborhoods often offer more authentic flavors. Prioritize seasonal ingredients for lake seafood dishes. 5. Mosquito reminder: Mosquitoes are common near Xiacha Lake and Hanchuan Park waterside areas. Bring insect repellent on sunny days.

There are more than 30 rooms, featuring a wabi-sabi Zen style. The lobby is like an art museum, and art exhibitions are held from time to time. Every photo you take here looks amazing. 📍Detailed address Yinli Art Hotel, 200 meters southeast of Tiangong Island, Xiaogan, Hubei, 📝Tips to note The rooms have advanced smart controls. A modern art dreamscape by Tianyu Lake, a full stay record at Yinli Art Hotel 🖼️ Finally checked in at the Yinli Art Hotel, which I had been eyeing on Xiaohongshu for a long time! Located 200 meters southeast of Tiangong Island, this lakeside art space completely fulfills all my imaginations of vacation aesthetics. 【Architectural Aesthetic Impact】 Two pure white modern buildings stand by the lake, with geometric lines cutting light and shadow segments that make every snapshot a masterpiece. The most stunning feature is the seamless visual connection between the infinity pool and the lake, lying by the pool feels like floating in the middle of the lake. Recommended to shoot between 5-6 PM when the sunset bathes the entire building in golden light. 【Living in an Art Museum】 The lake view room I stayed in was an artistic surprise! Natural wood furniture paired with terracotta-colored walls, and the original oil painting above the bed changes colors with the light and shadow. There is a sunken bathtub in front of the panoramic floor-to-ceiling window, where you can soak while watching egrets skim across the lake. PS: The smart curtains open super smoothly, and being gently awakened by the morning light over the lake every day is so healing~ 【Art Hidden in Details】 ▪️ The lobby always features surprising installation art exhibitions ▪️ Encounter niche sculptures at corridor corners ▪️ Even the room number plates are handmade ceramics ▪️ The staff uniforms are all in Morandi color tones 【Fun Guide】 ✅ Must-try yacht tour around the lake (advance reservation required) ✅ Early morning lakeside yoga class for ultimate relaxation ✅ The water drop music in the sound therapy room is amazing ✅ The golf putting area is perfect for photos TIPS: 1. The ferry runs every half hour, remember to keep the shuttle bus phone number handy 2. Add their special chili sauce to the breakfast beef noodles! 3. The first round of the room mini bar is free 4. Wearing light-colored clothes is recommended for better photos This three-day, two-night immersive art vacation filled every cell with lake light and creativity.
