Explore the Treasures of Southern Sichuan||A living ancient town from the Ming and Qing dynasties
||A living ancient town from the Ming and Qing dynasties.📝 This place originated in the Northern Song Dynasty and began to thrive as a commercial town during the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty. Since then, it has become a major trading town in the southern Sichuan area, serving as a transit point between Sichuan's Luzhou and Guizhou's Chishui, and a necessary pass through the 'Sichuan-Guizhou Corridor'. Its prosperity at the time has left behind many historical sites and buildings: the Wang Dynasty's former residence, Dongyue Temple, the oil paper umbrella shop, Dahong Rice Shop, Zhou Mansion...
🔸 The ancient town's architecture is mostly in the style of southern Sichuan courtyard houses, with blue-tiled houses stretching along the more than 1000 meters of the ancient street, arranged in a strip layout. It just so happened to be a rainy day☔, with fewer tourists strolling the streets. Taking this opportunity to walk slowly along the old street, the traces of the years are visible on the bluestone pavement, and the residential shops on both sides seem to tell their own stories and history, experiencing all these cultural and historical treasures, truly a living fossil of Ming and Qing architecture‼️
🔸 Today, although it no longer has the hustle and bustle of the past, the people living here enjoy a peaceful and tranquil life

I'd say it's the ceiling of beauty for ancient towns in Sichuan, and I guess no one would disagree
|||In Hejiang County, Luzhou City, Sichuan, there is an ancient town with a big name but little fame—'Fubao Ancient Town'. It was once listed among the top four ancient towns by National Geographic China, and also boasts titles such as the most beautiful ancient town in Sichuan, one of the top ten ancient towns in Sichuan, and the essence of mountain architecture in China.
Despite its many titles, why is 'Fubao Ancient Town' said to be little-known? Because it is located on the southeastern edge of Sichuan, bordering Chongqing and Guizhou, far from the political and cultural center of Sichuan. A self-drive trip from Chengdu to 'Fubao Ancient Town' takes about 4 hours, covering a distance of over 300 kilometers, which is quite a long journey for tourists within the province. This has also resulted in 'Fubao Ancient Town' remaining undeveloped commercially, with hundreds of years seemingly frozen in time within this ancient town.
'Fubao Ancient Town', also known as 'Fobao Ancient Town', became a trading center for hundreds of large towns during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and was also an essential route for the transportation of Zigong well salt to Guizhou. Most of the buildings in Fubao still maintain the Ming and Qing styles, with carved beams and painted rafters that witness the glory of the times, and flying eaves that have weathered the storms of time.
The ancient town is built on mountains and rivers, with an elegant environment and simple architecture, well-preserved. Despite the vicissitudes of hundreds of years, it still completely retains its original ancient pattern, with profound historical and cultural heritage and valuable architectural aesthetic value.
Passing through the town's large bluestone bridge, Hui Long Bridge, a well-preserved old street—'Hui Long Street' unfolds before the visitors. Walking on the mottled bluestone streets of the ancient town, looking at the simple and elegant leisure courtyards, experiencing the authentic local lifestyle, one can deeply feel the infinite charm of Sichuan's ancient towns, which is truly astonishing.
Shooting 'The Foolish Commander' in the quaint Fubao Ancient Town
The National Treasure Fubao Ancient Town hidden in the deep mountains is an ancient town that was established in the Song Dynasty, took shape in the Yuan and early Ming dynasties, and reached its peak in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The ancient town is built by the mountain and prospered by the water. The houses of varying heights and closely packed are extremely architecturally aesthetic, fully displaying the outline of the entire ancient town. Hui Long Street is the most intact ancient street in the town, the support of the existence of the ancient town, and the charm of the ancient town.
On both sides of the street paved with large bluestone, the houses are next to each other, and the doors are next to each other, forming five lanes such as Jiulong Lane, Liu Family Lane, Baoqing Lane, Chai Market Lane, and Chicken Market Lane. On the green stone streets of the ancient town that have been stepped on by countless people, strolling leisurely, looking carefully, and taking pictures seriously, from those uneven stones, it seems to see the hustle and bustle of the ancient streets in ancient times, and also see the loneliness and coldness of the ancient streets, and even some desolation. The temples and gods worshipped in Fubao Ancient Town are quite numerous and functionally complete, which is rare in the towns in Sichuan Province. It is even rumored that Fubao Ancient Town was formed by temples. Historical materials in the Jiaqing period called it 'Buddha Treasure'. The charm of Fubao Ancient Town also lies in its cultural connotation and historical accumulation. Many movies and TV dramas have been filmed here

Luzhou Tourism | Experience the 'Intoxicating' Culture of the Thousand-Year-Old Liquor City
A few days ago, I visited Luzhou, a city very close to Chengdu, with friends. I had long heard that Luzhou is a city where even the air is intoxicating, and Luzhou Laojiao is renowned far and wide. This trip was indeed a wish fulfilled, as I finally got to experience it.
Luzhou is truly a great place. After playing for a few days, I decided to create a check-in guide for you all📋
Hotel Section | Guilibo Courtyard
This time, my friends and I stayed at the Guilibo Courtyard Hotel located in the Zhangba Guilin Forest Scenic Area of Luzhou. The hotel is surrounded by lush century-old longan forests, and the natural fragrance permeates the air, making it very comfortable and tranquil, with a feeling of returning to nature.
The entire hotel features a Chinese retro style and even provides Hanfu for guests to wear and take photos. Moreover, the hotel is close to the 1573 National Treasure Cellar Cluster, which was established during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. The combination of the longan forest and the thousand-year-old liquor culture is serene and elegant, making me feel even closer to the 'intoxicating' culture.
The hotel has a butler to greet you at the entrance, and the amenities in the rooms are of very high quality, including 🛀AK and Hermès bath and shampoo products. The design and decoration are also very exquisite and elegant. The service is of high quality, too, with a turn-down service at night, offering goodnight drinks and Luzhou Laojiao's distiller's grains facial masks. I really have to praise it a lot~
⛩Travel Section | Luzhou Laojiao Scenic Area
Even before reaching the entrance of the scenic area, the fragrance of liquor was already in the air. Finally, I arrived at the heart of the 'intoxicating' culture!
The entrance is the National Cellar 1573 Square. On the way in after checking tickets, on the left, there is a relief sculpture depicting the history of Luzhou's liquor, which is quite spectacular~ On the right is the Luzhou Laojiao Museum, which presents the liquor culture of Luzhou Laojiao.
Further into the scenic area, you can see the Longquan well water used for brewing liquor, and the large Luzhou Laojiao 1573 National Treasure Cellar Cluster is nearby. 1573 refers to the year 1573 AD, the first year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. The cellar cluster has a long history, having produced liquor for 451 years without interruption, so the liquor brewed here is even more fragrant and delicious. With a ticket, you can also taste a cup of original cellar liquor for free, which makes the trip worthwhile~
The cultural and creative products in the scenic area are also very good. The Qilin plush toy is super cute, the 'Heaven Round, Earth Square' cup has a unique design, and the cultural and creative ice cream comes in five flavors, which is perfect for quenching your thirst after a tour around the area.
-
After visiting the Luzhou Laojiao Scenic Area, my friends and I went to visit the nearby Bao'en Pagoda, a majestic white pagoda standing amidst tall buildings.
Then we went to eat at a super delicious skewer restaurant before heading to the high-speed rail station to take the train home. This trip was really worth it!

Luzhou Fawang Temple Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The Premier Stonemason of Southern Sichuan and Northern Guizhou | The Underestimated 'National Treasure' Architecture
Hejiang Fawang Temple is located at the border of Luzhou in Sichuan and Chishui in Guizhou, a famous ancient monastery known for its low-profile existence and tranquil self-contentment. The remaining ancient temple buildings date back to the Qing Dynasty, and it is currently a Sichuan provincial-level cultural relics protection unit, with its elevation to national treasure status expected soon. The temple is grand in scale, well-managed, and skillfully constructed, making it a rare place worth visiting. Not far from the ancient temple is the Yaoba Ancient Town, the 'living fossil of ancient residential buildings in Southern Sichuan,' which is now a national treasure unit. Among them, Ciyun Temple (Dongyue Temple) has a long history, with a beautiful opera stage, and can be visited together.
Fawang Temple boasts majestic architecture, massive engineering, and exquisite carvings. All the columns in the temple are carved from whole stones, earning it the reputation of 'the best stonemason in the world.' The historical relics within the temple complement the modern restorations without any sense of discord, giving the entire ancient temple both a sense of historical depth and a burst of vitality.
After driving to the parking lot, passing through the stone archway leads to the serene mountain gate. The architectural sequence includes the Guan Sheng Temple, Wanshou Pavilion, Heavenly King Hall, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Storage Tower, and Guanyin Hall, among other historical relics.
The Wanshou Pavilion has a uniquely exquisite appearance, with lifelike carvings. The exterior walls still have murals of cranes and landscapes, and inside the pavilion, there is an imperial edict stele, with the second-floor loft painted with ink dragons and human figures. The Heavenly King Hall is connected to the Wanshou Pavilion, with a pair of Qing Dynasty female figure murals inside that are vividly portrayed. Passing through the Heavenly King Hall is the solemn and majestic Mahavira Hall, with exquisitely enshrined Buddha statues and niches, and two door god paintings on the vermilion doors with smooth lines. The entire ancient temple is not only remarkable for its wooden and stone architectural value, but also for its figure paintings, Buddha statues, niches, stone archways, and other items that are considered fine works.
Additionally, between the Sutra Storage Tower and the Guanyin Hall, there are stone steps leading up, walking through the bamboo and nanmu forests, like a person in cultivation, looking back, the green bricks, grey tiles, and archways form a continuous scene, immersing oneself in it, one finds a place of peace.
