Three days safari to Ruaha national park combining Isimila Stone Age Site #iringa #historicallandmarks #culture #wildadventures #nationalpark

Our safari in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania, was an unforgettable adventure. We stayed for two nights, and everything was well-organized from beginning to end. A special thanks to William, our guide, who was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. His vast experience allowed him to explain and show us so much about the park and its wildlife, always with passion and expertise. Having been on over 10 safaris in different countries, I must say William made this one stand out. His love for his work and respect for nature added authentic depth to every moment. With his guidance, we fully embraced the remarkable beauty of Ruaha and its incredible offerings. I highly recommend this experience to anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable safari in close touch with nature. Above all, I strongly recommend William as a guide—his role was pivotal in making this an extraordinary journey.

We met William in 2025 at Dar es Salaam/Nyerere Park and were immediately impressed. He is a highly experienced and knowledgeable safari guide, a great conversationalist, an all-around organizer, incredibly humorous, and a trusted friend. With William, you always feel safe. In January 2026, we specifically planned our trip with him. The journey was spectacular: Mikumi, Udzungwa, Iringa/Ruaha NP, Isimila, Makambako, Kitulo NP, Matema, and Lushoto. He always catered to our wishes, connected with various safari guides, and turned our trip into what it truly was: an adventure! Thank you, William – it was incredibly beautiful.

I have independently traveled through northern Tanzania to witness the wildebeest migration, as well as various parks in Kenya and Uganda. I was particularly eager to explore more remote parks like Katavi and Ruaha, which necessitate a reliable and well-equipped camping 4x4 since breakdowns are not an option for a solo self-driver in such isolated areas. Intu4x4 came highly recommended, and they completely met my expectations, ensuring a trouble-free journey covering 6,000 km on challenging roads in remote parts of western and central southern Tanzania. Additionally, the paperwork provided by Intu4x4 for crossing borders from Kenya to Tanzania was absolutely flawless.

#easytravelpost Udzungwa Mountains NP (Mang'ula, 2 hrs from Mikumi on the A104) — Mwanihana Peak (2,150 m) is a 2–3 day trek, but the mossy rainforest waterfall half is the Sanje Waterfall day walk (3–4 hrs return) plus the lower Mwanihana seep. Entry 30 USD/day foreign + 18% VAT (~35 USD), cashless gate takes card but bring USD cash backup; mandatory guide 15–20 USD/group/day, armed ranger 20–25 USD/day for Mwanihana summit, cash at Mang'ula HQ. Slept at Mang'ula guesthouse (25 USD). The mossy section: the first 2 km of the Sanje trail, where Newtonia and Cephalosphaera rainforest giants hold Frullania on every branch, Sphagnum in the stream-side rock pools, and the Sanje fall mist wets the moss at 8 a.m. I went in September—forest 24°C, fall base 19°C, moss dripping from the 100 m spray. Wore trail-runners; the trail is stone stair + root-mud, the fall base slick. Mistake: I tried Mwanihana summit as a day hike in October — 38 km round trip, mist by noon, turned back at Njia Panda, wasted 200 USD package. 2-day min. Second mistake: I didn't bring 20,000 TZS small notes — the guide fee was 20 USD, I had 50, he had no change, "tip me 30k then." Third: I swam in the Sanje pool — guide okayed it, but the Udzungwa ranger later said "bilharzia risk in slow pools, swim at the fall base only". Ask twice. Buy in Mang'ula: a 5,000 TZS chipsi mayai at the junction stall, not the 30,000 TZS lodge. Gear: a 25,000 TZS rain shell—Udzungwa rains sideways. Local rule: no drone (TANAPA bans), no off-trail without guide, no picking the forest pharmacopeia (every tree is medicine to the Pogolo), sign the Mang'ula register. The moss on the Newtonia root flare is the rainforest's sponge—step on the stair, not the green. Opinion: Udzungwa is "Galapagos of Africa" with a 35 USD day fee and most people only do Sanje. Should TANAPA build a 300 m boardwalk on the lower seep and fold a 5 USD moss fee in, or keep 35 USD flat? I'd boardwalk it. Would you pay 35 USD to walk a mossy rainforest to a 100 m waterfall with Sanje mangabey calls?

#easytravelpost Udzungwa Mountains NP sits off the A104 below Mikumi; the Mwanihana Peak trail (2,080 m) is the park's signature forest ascent from Mang'ula HQ. Entry $30 USD non-resident/day, mandatory TANAPA guide 15–20 USD/group/day, armed ranger 20–25 USD/day for Mwanihana multi-day, cashless at Mang'ula gate. Dar→Mang'ula 6 hrs (20k TZS bus), or Mikumi→Mang'ula 1.5 hrs. Day-hike to Sanje Falls is 4–5 hrs; Mwanihana Peak is 2 days/1 night minimum. I did the Sanje Falls day hike first (30 USD + 18 USD guide, 06:30 start), then came back for Mwanihana over 2 days. The moss on the lower rainforest (1,000–1,500 m) is Metzgeria on the Newtonia bark 1 cm thick, 18°C humid, a rufous-collared mountain babbler, Sanje Falls dropping 170 m through spray that wets the moss black. Above 1,800 m the forest thins to Podocarpus + Symplocus, moss on the campsite logs 2 cm, I ate a packed 8,000 TZS Mikumi mishkaki, watched a Sanje crested mangabey troop cross the canopy at 08:00. Mistake: I tried Mwanihana as a fit-day-hike — 2,080 m gain, 9 hrs, missed the 15:00 gate cutoff, ranger radio'd; 2-day with ranger or don't attempt the peak. Another: the 30 USD is card/cashless at Mang'ula — no TZS 50k notes, bring smaller or pay by phone. Would you pay 30 USD + 18 USD guide for the Sanje Falls mossy rainforest day, or commit to the 400–500 USD 3-day Mwanihana Peak package for the summit moss-camp?

We had an amazing experience with Zohar African Safari! For our safari, we chose Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park, and from the first contact to the moment we returned home, everything was perfectly arranged. The service was truly outstanding. Everything was meticulously organized, leaving us free to simply enjoy this unforgettable journey. What truly sets Zohar apart is their personal touch. You don’t feel like just a customer; you feel genuinely welcome. The team is available 24/7, and any questions or concerns are addressed promptly. A special thank you goes to Lilian and her incredible team: Jackie, Rachel, and Meshack. Your dedication, friendliness, and quick assistance made our trip even better. It brought immense peace of mind knowing someone was always accessible and thinking along with us. We look back on this safari with great joy and would absolutely recommend Zohar African Safari to anyone without hesitation. Thank you for this unforgettable experience—we hope to return again someday!

Sailing across Lake Tanganyika to reach Gombe National Park was pure bliss. Spending three days trekking alongside chimpanzees and staying at Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge was simply amazing. Following this, we embarked on an 11-day road trip through Nyerere National Park, Mikumi National Park, and Ruaha National Park. Unlike the Serengeti, these parks felt a lot denser and far less crowded. Wildlife was abundant, including hippos, elephants, giraffes, impalas, buffalo, zebras, a few wildebeest, African wild dogs in Nyerere, and kudus across all parks. Tanzania Roadside Expeditions provided flawless organization and maintained excellent communication throughout. Our driver guide, Walter, impressed us with his extensive knowledge of nature and wildlife, fluent English, and engaging conversation.

#underratedspots Beyond the iconic safaris and well-trodden paths lies a continent of secret kingdoms, surreal desert seas, and forgotten wildernesses. Here are 6 extraordinary hidden gems across Africa that almost no one talks about: Mahale Mountains (Tanzania): Trek wild chimpanzees through the forest before crashing onto a white-sand beach sitting on Lake Tanganyika, the longest freshwater lake on earth. It is reachable only by small plane and boat, so almost no one goes. Ruaha (Tanzania): Tanzania's largest park is bigger than the Serengeti, home to an estimated 10% of all the lions left on earth plus rare wild dogs, yet it gets less than a tenth of the Serengeti's visitors. Chyulu Hills (Kenya): Experience the rolling green hills Hemingway wrote about in "Green Hills of Africa," featuring lava-tube caves, big-tusked elephants, and views straight to Kilimanjaro as one of the least-visited reserves in the whole country. Lake Turkana (Kenya): Discover a jade-green lake the size of a sea sitting in the middle of a desert. It is the world's largest desert lake and a UNESCO site ringed by volcanoes and crocodiles. Blyde River Canyon (South Africa): Marvel at the third-largest canyon on the planet and the largest green one, featuring towering cliffs, waterfalls, and the famous Three Rondavels right next to Kruger where most safari-goers drive straight past. Mapungubwe (South Africa): Stand at the exact spot where South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe meet in a lost African kingdom that once traded gold and ivory 800 years ago and is now a UNESCO site. #AfricaTravel #HiddenGems #TanzaniaTravel #KenyaTravel #SouthAfricaTravel #OffTheBeatenPath #TravelInspiration #BucketListTravel

Ruaha national park #iringa #tanzania 🥳🥂

Wildlife densities might not rival those of the Serengeti, but the focus here is on a more well-rounded bush experience. I particularly enjoy mixing game drives with walking safaris and boat journeys along the impressive Rufiji River in Nyerere National Park. Ruaha National Park is another highlight, offering rugged landscapes and a thriving population of wild dogs. In the grassy floodplains of Katavi National Park, located on the Western circuit, the Dry season draws immense numbers of animals, often making me feel like I have the entire park to myself. The wildlife spectacle there is unforgettable—especially when thousands of hippos cluster in the shrinking river, the region's lifeline. For an even greater adventure, a safari in Katavi can pair beautifully with chimp tracking in Mahale Mountains National Park, regarded as the prime spot in Africa to witness these fascinating primates. No matter where you choose to safari in Tanzania, the offshore spice island of Zanzibar is always just a short distance away.

My friends and I had an unforgettable time in Tanzania with Kibo Mawenzi during our 8-day Southern Tanzania safari, exploring Nyerere National Park, Mikumi National Park, and Ruaha National Park. Everything was expertly organized by the Kibo team. Nyerere National Park provided a serene introduction with stunning river views and remarkable wildlife sightings during game drives and the boat safari. Watching elephants and hippos by the water as the evening sky shifted colors was truly magical. Mikumi National Park featured breathtaking open landscapes where we observed diverse animal activities in open spaces. Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about wildlife. The lodges were cozy, the food surpassed expectations, and the hospitality was exceptional throughout the trip. Ruaha National Park served as the perfect finale—genuine, thrilling, and bursting with wildlife. Every drive delivered something unique, from elephants and antelopes to extraordinary birdlife. I wholeheartedly recommend this safari to anyone seeking a tranquil Tanzanian adventure.

Good flight nice views

Although Migsam Safaris started in 2024, the team's decades of combined expertise were clear in how flawlessly they organized our fly-in safari to the southern parks. Managing small aircraft transfers and coordinating with remote camps can be tricky, but everything ran like clockwork. Our guide in Ruaha stood out, showcasing an in-depth understanding of the park's intricate ecosystem that comes only with years of experience. This company seems destined for rapid growth, and I’m glad to have tried them early on. Fantastic service!

Located in the heart of Ruaha National Park, Tanzania, where rivers flow between acacia and baobab trees, Ubuyu, a Banyan Tree Escape, is nestled here as Banyan Tree's first luxury safari destination in Africa. Only a few villas are hidden in the grasslands, built in the Maasai tribal architectural style using local stone and thatch, with colors blending seamlessly into the earth. Each villa features a private pool and viewing terrace; open the door to an endless wilderness where you can often see elephant herds walking by the river, lions resting under trees, and various birds flying across the sky. The interiors are dominated by earth tones, paired with natural wood and fabrics, without elaborate decorations but exuding a sense of wild luxury everywhere. The spacious skylights allow direct stargazing; wake up to the morning light of the savannah, watch the sunset dye the river red in the evening, and at night, enjoy the silence with only the sound of the wind and distant animal calls. The lodge offers exclusive guides for morning game drives to track wildlife; afternoon picnics by the river with local coffee and fresh fruit; evenings around the campfire listening to tribal stories; and nights relaxing in the private pool under the Milky Way or experiencing Banyan Tree Spa with local essential oils to soothe body and mind. Dining has no fixed menu and is prepared fresh daily with local fruits, vegetables, spices, and unique game meats. You can enjoy a savannah dinner under the stars or arrange a private meal by the river, blending gourmet food with wild scenery. Here, time is irrelevant; just live according to the rhythm of dawn and dusk and nature. The luxury of Ubuyu is not about escaping nature but truly entering the wilderness, coexisting with all living things, and feeling the most authentic life force amid Africa’s most pristine and magnificent landscapes.

I went to Isimira ruins from Iringa for 1500TSH on a shared bus. The price had gone up from the information a few years ago. As of 2023, the entrance fee to Isimira is 10 dollars or 23600TSH. I was told that there was no change, so I think it's best to bring the exact amount. I was asked for a guide fee of 5000TSH, but I declined and walked freely. However, this was a big mistake. There are no signs, so you can get lost even if you follow the directions. If you go alone, I thought it would be easier to find if you go counterclockwise from the starting point. (Don't go to the direction with two houses first) Or rather, it's better not to be stingy with the guide fee. I saw a lot of monkeys, but they didn't seem to be attacking me.

The Iringa region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The region covers an area of 13,708 sp. mi. The region is growing in terms of tourism, and it's actually a home to Ruaha National Park, Tanzania's second national largest park. Many young people in Iringa are now engaged in the tourism business. One of the fast-growing businesses is tourists hosting. If you are a tourist and you want to stay in a beautiful homestay while exploring the beauty of the Iringa region, book and stay at "Tembe Home", a cosy two-bedroom home hidden in the beautiful street of Frelimo-Iringa.
