The main store is always super popular with massive lines, but at Isuzu Chaya, you can enjoy these treats without the crazy wait (depending on the time of day, you can even walk right in)✨ The view of the Japanese garden from inside is absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere is top-notch! They offer both traditional Japanese and Western sweets, but the Akafuku Set is an absolute must-try. This time, I ordered the "Akafuku & Drink Set (¥1,000)." It comes with two pieces of Akafuku, and you can choose from five different drinks! I usually visit Namba and Dotonbori, but this time I wanted to try something different, so I joined the Kintetsu Club Tourism. Through Kintetsu Club Tourism, I went on a trip to Ise-Shima. We met the guide on time and started our train journey together! 🚄 We took the Shimakaze sightseeing express train, enjoying the ocean views during the 2-hour and 20-minute premium train ride. Sitting in natural leather recliner seats with legs stretched out, even the travel time felt like part of the vacation. The ekiben (train station bento) and desserts from the café car were perfect 🍱☕ As soon as we got off the train, we boarded the Ago Bay cruise to admire the ria coastline scenery. Our accommodation was Kashikojima Hojoen, and the lobby looked like the Infinity Castle from Demon Slayer, making it fun to take photos ♥️ At night, we fully enjoyed the Japanese onsen in an open-air bath under a sky full of stars ♨️ If you've visited Osaka multiple times, I highly recommend the Ise-Shima train trip. Day 1 From Nagoya to Yokkaichi Station → Tsubaki Grand Shrine Make sure to check the train and bus schedules carefully, or you might end up waiting for a long time 🥹. Yokkaichi Station has nothing much to offer, so killing time there can be challenging ⏳. Tsubaki Grand Shrine has a serene atmosphere and is full of spiritual energy. Perhaps because it was a Sunday, I had to wait about 10 minutes to reach the main hall 🤏. Although it's a bit far, it's definitely worth visiting!!! The return bus service is limited, but there are dining options nearby, so passing time isn't a problem ✌🏻. Since my hotel was in Isuzugaoka, I enjoyed Yamaguchiya's Ise Udon in Ise City during the train transfer. 🏨 I returned to the hotel early to prepare for the next day. ※ Note: Beyond Ise City, IC cards for transportation are not accepted, so you need to pay directly to the station staff after getting off the train ※ Day 2 🙆♀️ Around 7 AM, I visited Futami Okitama Shrine. Although it's a bit far from the station, I walked along the coastline to reach it. There were few people, allowing me to explore at a leisurely pace. However, the train schedule was again inconvenient 🙂↔️. About an hour is sufficient for this visit! 🙆♀️ Afterward, I went to Ise City for breakfast at Cafe Pei. It's a local café loved by the residents ☕️, offering affordable prices. It's perfect for those who want to enjoy breakfast before indulging in the food at Okage Yokocho! 🙆♀️ The Outer Shrine (Geku) can be explored in about 30-50 minutes. Afterward, I took the bus right in front of Geku to the Inner Shrine (Naiku). ※ During busy times, temporary buses are available, so transportation shouldn't be an issue! 🙆♀️ The Inner Shrine is much larger and more crowded than the Outer Shrine. There's a spot where you can touch the Isuzu River to purify your hands before proceeding. 🙆♀️ At Okage Yokocho, I enjoyed strolling and sampling various foods. Everywhere had lines, so I opted for quick bites like dumplings and minced meat cutlets. I then relaxed with coffee at Isuzu River Café, which offers a view of the river. I bought Akafuku as a souvenir and quietly enjoyed it on the train back to Nagoya 😋. 🙆♀️ Lastly, I visited Sarutahiko Shrine. I placed my hand on the famous stone to recharge my energy! Another shrine within the premises was under construction 👷. Afterward, I took the bus back to Ise City and returned to Nagoya. It's recommended to check for temporary buses at the Inner Shrine bus stop. I wasn't aware of them and boarded at Sarutahiko Shrine bus stop, where I waited in the cold for over 20 minutes, and the bus was packed 🥲. Although coordinating train and bus schedules was a bit challenging, I had a very relaxing time and felt recharged! Definitely give it a try!

Stepping into the workshop, your sight and smell are immediately captivated—huge blocks of bonito are being roasted, intense smoke enveloping a rich fish aroma, a scene both primal and striking. The owner told me that one fish undergoes dozens of smoking and sun-drying processes over several months to achieve the ultimate 'umami'. He also recounted the history of bonito here and its connection to Ise Grand Shrine. The most unforgettable experience was, under the owner's guidance, personally using a special planer (katsuobushi kezuri) to shave the wood-hard dried bonito into thin, cherry blossom-like 'kezuribushi' flakes. This time, I traveled to Ise Grand Shrine by train from Aichi Prefecture. The train ride took about two hours, but it was a truly wonderful experience. The grounds are enveloped in a serene atmosphere, and just walking along the approach surrounded by trees felt like a moment of peace. Ise Grand Shrine (Naiku) The Naiku is the central shrine of Ise Grand Shrine, dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami, the chief deity of Japan. After purifying my hands in the Isuzu River and walking along the approach, the solemn atmosphere intensified, and I truly felt I had arrived at a special place. I went to Oharaimachi (Okage Yokocho), a tourist spot located in front of Ise Grand Shrine in Ise, Mie Prefecture! Oharaimachi is an 800-meter street lined with shops, and it was fun just to browse! Here are some of my favorites and some recommended by my followers. 😸 ◾︎ Fukusuke, famous for its Ise udon. If you go early, you can try their handmade Ise udon! Unfortunately, we didn't make it in time and it was sold out, but if you've tried their handmade Ise udon, please let me know what you thought! 😋 ◾︎ Akafuku It's very famous and can be purchased at department stores, but at the main store, you can eat the handmade udon made by artisans. ✨ The winter-only "zenzai" (red bean paste) was also delicious. 👏 ◾︎ Iwato-ya Japanese confectionery shop. I bought a souvenir of "Iwato Mochi," a specialty made with freshly pounded rice cakes that's only available at this store! ◾︎Snoopyaki The Snoopyaki, which looks just like the sign in front of the store, are also great to eat fresh! ◾︎Starbucks I didn't notice it, but this Starbucks has a very rare "siren"-shaped onigawara tile.👏 I posted this photo to my story and a knowledgeable follower told me about it.🙌 ◾︎Sumikko Gurashi-do Next to the merchandise shop, there was also a place where you could buy takeout ningyo-yaki and other treats! ◾︎Grand Mercure Ise-Shima Resort & Spa The hotel I stayed at this time.
