If you happen to visit Saariselka in Finnish Lapland you definitely have to visit the Kaunispaa Fell that is situated next to the village. The triangulation tower is situated right on top of the fell and it offers a good way to have a beautiful view to the surrounding fells and other mountains in the very North Finnish Lapland. I especially recommend going to see the midnight sun from the tower since during a clear summer night the sun can be clearly visible from the tower. The tower was built in 2011 to replace the old similar tower that was built during 1950’s and destroyed in 2009. It was used by land surveyors who were able to see long distance from the tower that was situated significantly over the surrounding terrain at about 500 meters above the sea level. You can access the tower from Saariselka center by car by taking the road called Kaunispaantie from the center of the village (north side) or by walking to the top off the fell. During the winter the top of the fell can also be accessed using ski lifts from the Saariselka village. There is no admission fee or tickets to the tower. I absolutely love Finland! I could go back again and again and never get tired of it! ❄️ Winter in Finland is a healing, snow-covered wonderland—thick snow blankets everything, and the atmosphere is amazing when it snows. The tranquility melts away all your worries! Watching the snowflakes gently fall is so soothing; it's like time stands still, chilling you to the point where even your soul finds peace. 🤍 The highlight—the aurora borealis tour—was absolutely magical! Sitting in the snow-covered landscape, watching the aurora dance in the sky, the peace was almost lo-fi-like; it instantly reset all my worries! Although I only saw a faint aurora that night (due to two days of heavy snow, my poor photography skills, and not being a professional photographer), my excitement was off the charts! Next time, I definitely want to try my luck with the legendary, almost divine, aurora borealis. 🌌 Upon arriving in Ivalo, I pre-booked a taxi, and the driver turned out to be a handsome Finnish guy! 😚 He was incredibly warm and had amazing personality! I fantasized about what it would be like if something like that happened in real life, but alas, it's just a dream, and wishful thinking on my part 😂. When I went to the supermarket to buy groceries, that handsome boy's dad picked me up and dropped me off—so thoughtful! He even shared some local snacks with me! Fresh roasted chicken wings + amazing potato chips (I couldn't find that flavor anywhere after I got back; next time I'll just pack a few bags to take home 🥹). Next time, I really want to try experiencing the midnight sun 🌞, 24 hours of continuous sunshine—it sounds so cool! Has anyone been to Finland in the summer? I was genuinely amazed by how delicious the food was in Finland! Here are the top three dishes that impressed me the most 👇 ① Reindeer dishes 🦌 A unique specialty of Finland. I tried various dishes like soups and steaks, and they were all delicious. The seasoning might be slightly strong to mask any gamey flavor, but the reindeer meat and pickle pizza was exceptionally tasty—I’d love to eat it again! 😭 ② Salmon 🐟 This was truly on another level! · Stews · Meunière · Grilled dishes No matter how simply it was prepared, the salmon was tender and showcased the quality of the ingredients. ③ Breakfast hot sandwiches 🥪 Many Finnish hotels offer a DIY hot sandwich style breakfast. It took me two full days to get to Ivalo, Finland, from Japan by plane, train, and bus (on a budget). Staying at Grand Hostel Ivalo, a reasonably priced dormitory room with a bath, toilet, kitchen, and shared sauna, cost around ¥12,000 during peak season. As one of Finland's northernmost points, there's a good chance you'll see the Northern Lights. Ivalo Arctic River Resort: Cozy Stays & Snowy Adventures ❄️🌲 Just spent two nights at the Arctic River Resort in Ivalo — cozy rooms, perfect winter warmth, and restful sleep that’ll chase away any trace of jet lag. The breakfast was good. The only catch? The resort’s location is at a peaceful place, that means you’ll have to walk for a 30 minutes to find the nearest supermarket.

My stay at Aurora Village Ivalo was a truly enchanting experience in the heart of polar nature. The resort is located in a quiet area surrounded by white forests and sparkling snow. The glass cabin we had allows you to see the sky directly, making it possible to comfortably view the aurora borealis from my bed, an unforgettable experience. Although the weather outside was cold, the inside of the cabin was warm and cozy. Activities like skiing and snowboarding added a touch of adventure to the trip. The staff were very friendly and made the experience comfortable and special. This place is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of winter nature.

Hello :-) I went to Northern Europe to see the Aurora, which I wanted to see the most when Corona is over. Since I prepared it suddenly, the airfare was expensive and I was busy looking for accommodations and tours, but I was excited because it was my first trip in a long time and I might be able to see the Aurora. I was going from Incheon to Helsinki via Paris, but after a long flight, I took another flight to the Ivalo area, went further north, and took a bus to Rovaniemi, and then flew back to Helsinki. Since the goal was the Aurora, I booked a place to stay in Nilopā National Park to see it directly in Ivalo, but it failed because there were too many clouds ㅠㅠ But the place was really pretty! And I moved to Sariselka and applied for a snowmobile tour, but failed again because of the clouds ㅠㅠ And I moved to the long-awaited Rovaniemi and met a Korean aurora tour guide who I had a hard time finding in Korea and successfully saw the aurora 😆 I had a really, really unforgettable trip :-) And I went to Santa Village in Rovaniemi and it was so cute. The hill made sledding very fun ▫️You can sign up for a husky safari tour and aurora hunting at the hotel ▫️I think it's better not to expect breakfast. Shouldn't you expect anything from Nordic cuisine..?! On days when the aurora index is low, you can't see the aurora at the hotel.
