All Trip Moments about Iwakuni
castle are great view is spectacular
Iwakuni Castle is a nice place to stop by if you ride the cable car to the top of the mountain. It's a nice clean castle like many others but the best thing about this one is you can oversee the Kintaikyo Bridge downstairs.
It was destroyed during a war and later reconstructed . It's amazing to see the types of swords and armors used at that time. Exhibition is small, but the experience is amazing
All in all, we had a great time visiting

[Yamaguchi Cafe] A cute cafe in Iwakuni ♡
"Wahaku"
A very cute shop that opened in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi last April. As soon as you enter, there are cute miscellaneous goods
You order first and then go to the room in the back...
There are also exciting private rooms, so it's really hard to decide where to sit
✧Cheesecake
✧Organic black tea
✧Coffee
Unfortunately, the sweets I was looking for were sold out that day, so I had cheesecake 🧀
The cheesecake doesn't use white sugar and it was really delicious ¨̮♡
The coffee is coffee beans from Coffee Yamaguchi in Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture, and the black tea is organic tea leaves from Ukiha Mountain Tea in Fukuoka Prefecture. I felt a connection to use products from Fukuoka
I want to go back to try the seasonal sweets again

Irori Sanzoku Nishiki Branch
2021.9
A popular spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture😍😍
When you step inside, it's a different world❤️
This is a restaurant where you can feel the nostalgic traditional Japanese culture and the Japanese spirit✨✨✨
"Irori Sanzoku" is a restaurant famous for its large Sanzoku musubi, Sanzoku yaki, Sanzoku udon, and Kougyu beef✨✨
There are two stores, the Kuda store and the Nishiki store,
I often go to the Nishiki store, which is small and has a mature atmosphere with few people😉
The Kuda store is very large and the presentation is quite good. The flashy welcome makes it a popular spot for families with children✨
The Sanzoku-yaki skewered chicken, grilled over charcoal, is the most famous dish at Sanzoku😍
In winter, there's nothing quite like eating warm udon noodles in a kotatsu~😍
This is a historic restaurant that you should definitely visit at least once❤️
Their regular holidays are Wednesdays and the second and third Tuesdays😉
We recommend checking the internet before you visit✨

Kintai Bridge, Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
#Hanami
The cherry blossoms seen from Kintai Bridge are spectacular. You should definitely try the soft serve ice cream on the castle side of Kintai Bridge. There are two shops, Musashi and Kojiro, so choose whichever you like. It is said that Sasaki Kojiro learned the secret technique of the Tsubame Gaeshi on Kintai Bridge. There are many foreigners because the Iwakuni US military base is nearby. I recommend going a little further in the future, but the road behind Iwakuni Station on the Shinkansen line when the cherry blossoms are falling. It is as beautiful as a cherry blossom tunnel of falling cherry blossoms.

Iwakuni, Yamaguchi. The balustrade of the Kintai Bridge, which was used for 50 years, is on display at City Hotel Ando.
A part of the balustrade (handrail) that was used on the Kintai Bridge for 50 years is on display near the front desk.
This is the local business hotel "City Hotel Ando".
It's not a new hotel, but it's a simple hotel near the station.
Breakfast needs to be reserved the day before, but it's reasonably priced at "600 yen".
The key 🔑 is inserted and twisted, which is a rare system.
Iwakuni Station is easily accessible by public transportation such as buses, and is a great place to keep as a base for sightseeing.
It is located 190m from "JR Iwakuni Station".

Kintai Bridge Momijidani Park
#AutumnFoliage
Autumn leaves color the park known as the Kamakura of the West
This park is adjacent to Kikko Park, the former residence of the lord of Iwakuni, Yoshikawa, and was named after its beautiful autumn leaves. Combined with the appearance of the neighboring Yoshikawa family graveyard, it is also known as the Kamakura of the West. In late autumn, fallen ginkgo leaves spread like a carpet on the ground.

A festival!? A tourist spot in the mountains!? The local specialty, Sanzokuyaki!
Irori Sanzoku is a restaurant that is well known to all Yamaguchi residents. Many people have probably gone there on a drive after getting their driver's license. In fact, it's not a theme park, but a restaurant. It was also featured in the Prefectural Show. 📺️❇️
As you can see in the photo, the park is spacious and you can walk around and sightsee. There is even a Buddha statue.
When you come here, everyone eats Sanzoku Yaki🍗 + Sanzoku Musubi🍙‼ ️Even just the rice balls will fill you up.
It's right after you get off at Kuga Interchange. Please give it a try😊

Yaganamon Gate
Address: Japan, 741-0081 Yamaguchi, Iwakuni, Yokoyama, 2 Chome-4.
Getting there: You can take bus and stop at Kintaikyo bus stop. The gate is just around 5 minutes from the bus stop.
Highlights: This Nagayamon gate belongs to a former samurai residence of the Kagawa family. The Kagawa family is one of the five elders of the Iwakuni domain. Because the residence is still used, only the gate can be viewed. The gate is believed to have been built in 1693, and has been well maintained.😬
It is a really fine gate. Although visitors are not allowed to go in the residence, I can already feel the history from touring around the gate and residence.
Opening hours: 9.30am to 4.30pm daily
Admission fee: free of charge

Iwakuni Art Museum
Address: 2 Chome-10-27 Yokoyama, Iwakuni, Yamaguchi 741-0081, Japan.
Getting there: The Iwakuni Art Museum is just located opposite to the famous Kikko Park in Iwakuni city.
Highlights: The Iwakuni Art Museum also formerly known as the Kashiwabara Museum. This museum displays an art collection that includes glassware, samurai armor, ceramics and the furniture of Iwakuni's feudal lords. It is named after the family who owns the collection.
It's more of a history museum with artifacts, but they're showcasing the artisans' mastery of the craft rather than historical relevance to the area. This museum is almost mandatory if you want to have any hope of absorbing the history of the entire Yokoyama area. 🥰
Opening hours: 9am to 5pm daily
Admission fee: 800yen

Torian, Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture
If you're looking for a place to fill your stomach while sightseeing in Iwakuni, this is the place to go: Irori Sanzoku!
Actually, Irori Sanzoku Kuga is divided into three stores, and the most recommended one is Torian 💁♀️
There are two recommended points
🚩They have a children's lunch
※Torian is the only place that has a children's lunch
🚩They're completely indoors
※The other two stores are half indoors or outdoors, so it's cold in the winter and you'll get bitten by mosquitoes in the summer lol
If you're visiting Kintaikyo Bridge or nearby, be sure to stop by 💁♀️

Kintai Bridge
The Kintai Bridge is a nationally designated scenic spot and is one of Japan's most famous wooden bridges. It is a popular tourist spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
It costs 310 yen for adults to cross. From a distance, the arched bridge looks very beautiful. When you actually cross it, it is surprisingly high.
Because it is arched, there is a difference in height and the steps are quite steep.
There are old-fashioned souvenir shops on both sides of the bridge.

Kintai Bridge
Located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, it spans the Nishiki River and is one of Japan's three most famous bridges (the other two being Nihonbashi in Tokyo and Spectacle Bridge in Nagasaki). This five-arch wooden bridge is approximately 193 meters long and 5 meters wide.
It features a nail-free structure secured by ingenious mortise and tenon joints and metal straps, providing both mechanical strength and elasticity.
Surrounded by spring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, the bridge blends beautifully with the natural environment.
Designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1950, it was inscribed as a "Japan Heritage" in 2017.
Take a cable car to Iwakuni Castle at the top of the mountain for a panoramic view of Kintai Bridge.
It is approximately 45 kilometers from Hiroshima City, a 50-minute drive.
Please inquire about tourist vehicles for Hiroshima and Yamaguchi Prefectures.

Hiroshima-Iwakuni-Itsukushima Shrine — A One-Day Self-Driving Tour
Beautiful Scenery and Heavy History
1⃣️ Itsukushima Shrine⛩️: Highly recommended to visit during high tide; otherwise, the torii gate on the sandy beach during low tide might seem less impressive (especially with tourists taking photos under the gate).
2⃣️ Iwakuni Kintaikyo Bridge: There is a toll to cross the bridge, and the local Iwakuni tile soba is quite good.
3⃣️ Atomic Bomb Memorial Museum☢️: The guestbook is filled with messages like "Facing history is the only way to truly achieve peace"☮️.

#AbsolutelyFreeTrip
Iwakuni Castle, located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a beautiful mountain castle characterized by its tower, perched atop a mountain approximately 200 meters above sea level. ✨
Take the ropeway from Kintaikyo Bridge at the base of the mountain to the top and enjoy a spectacular view of the castle town, Nishiki River, and Kintaikyo Bridge below!
When you actually visit, the view from the tower is truly spectacular!
There's also a wealth of historical materials, and there's plenty to see, including exhibits on the history of the Iwakuni domain and military equipment. 📖

Located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, "Kintai Bridge" is one of Japan's three most famous bridges, renowned for its stunning five wooden arch spans✨. The bridge harmonizes beautifully with the changing scenery of the four seasons—cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant autumn leaves, and snowy landscapes in winter—making it a true symbol of Japanese beauty.
Visiting the bridge in person is an experience in itself. As you cross, the scenery shifts with every step, turning the act of walking into a delightful journey. Surrounded by the gentle murmur of the river and the warmth of the wooden structure, I found myself unable to stop taking photos📸.
Nearby attractions include Iwakuni Castle and a ropeway, making this area perfect for a full day of exploration.

Kintai Bridge
Kintai Bridge, a famous 5-arch bridge in Hiroshima. The bridge is made of wood. This bridge is not built with a single bolt. It is made of wood that is inserted together to form a bridge. This makes the bridge very famous. It is one of the 3 most beautiful bridges in Japan. To visit this bridge, you have to take a train and then a bus. Or from the train station, you can take a taxi. It is not very far. The fare is not very expensive. Anyone who visits Hiroshima is recommended to visit this bridge. This bridge is also a world heritage. Especially if you come during the cherry blossom season, this bridge will be decorated with beautiful cherry blossoms. Anyone who visits must not miss it. #Kintai Bridge #Hiroshima #Japan

Yoshika Park is one of the representative attractions in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was originally the residence of the Yoshikawa family, the lord of the Iwakuni Domain. Now it has been renovated into an open park with lush greenery. It has beautiful scenery in all seasons. Together with the Kintai Bridge and Iwakuni Castle next to it, it constitutes the three classic highlights of Iwakuni tourism.
In the center of the park, a bronze statue of Yoshikawa Hiroie, wearing armor and with a resolute expression, is particularly eye-catching. Yoshikawa Hiroie is the son of Yoshikawa Motoharu and the first lord of Iwakuni Domain. In the early Edo period, he chose to assist Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Battle of Sekigahara, and was eventually granted the land of Iwakuni, laying the foundation for the Yoshikawa family and bringing long-term stability and development to the local area.
Yoshika Park has gardens, museums, cultural facilities and ancient architectural ruins. It is particularly spectacular when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in spring. It is a good place to take a walk and enjoy the scenery and learn about the history and culture of Iwakuni. After walking across the Kintai Bridge, you may wish to walk into this park to pay tribute to this general who created history for Iwakuni.

🍣 Traditional Flavors by the River – Lunch at Shiratame Bekkan
The family had lunch at Shiratame Bekkan after our visit to Iwakuni Castle, and it was the perfect way to wind down after the walk. Located just by the iconic Kintaikyo Bridge, the restaurant offers an incredibly serene setting with beautiful views of the river and bridge through large windows.
We came specifically to try their iconic Iwakuni sushi and soba—and both didn’t disappoint. The Iwakuni sushi was neatly packed and layered with vinegared rice, vegetables, and thin egg crepe, while the soba was light yet flavorful, great for a post-castle trek. The set meals were well presented, and service was polite and unobtrusive.
The entire atmosphere was calm and traditional, a very relaxing contrast to the sightseeing crowd outside. It’s not a very big place, but that adds to the charm. If you’re visiting Iwakuni, this is a lovely spot to experience local flavors with a view.

🏯 Climbing to the Sky – Iwakuni Castle Adventure
Iwakuni Castle sits high atop Mount Shiroyama and delivers not only a slice of history but also one of the best panoramic views you’ll find in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Originally built in 1608 and later reconstructed, the castle today serves more as a museum and lookout, but it doesn’t fall short on charm.
Getting to the top is part of the fun. From Kintaikyo Bridge, we took a short walk to the ropeway station located in Kikko Park. The cable car ride was only about 3 minutes but offered a sweeping view of the Nishiki River and the iconic wooden bridge. Once at the top, we walked another 10 minutes along a shaded path to the castle. There’s also a hiking trail if you’re up for the climb.
Inside the castle, you’ll find displays of samurai armor, weapons, and a fascinating model of Kintaikyo Bridge. The best part? The top floor observation deck, which gave us a panoramic view of Iwakuni city, the river, and on a clear day, even out toward the Seto Inland Sea.
It’s a peaceful spot with very few crowds when we visited. Entry fees were reasonable and combo tickets covering the castle, ropeway, and bridge made it a value-packed outing. If you’re in the area—especially visiting from Hiroshima—Iwakuni Castle makes for a relaxing and rewarding detour.

🌉 Crossing Time: A Peaceful Stroll on Kintaikyo Bridge
Kintaikyo Bridge in Iwakuni left a lasting impression on me. As I stepped onto its iconic five arches, I felt like I was walking through history. The elegant wooden structure spans the Nishiki River and is a marvel of traditional Japanese carpentry—no nails, just masterful joinery and centuries-old technique. It’s hard to believe the original was built in 1673.
Each step across the bridge gave us different views—of the river, the surrounding town, and the intricate wooden craftsmanship beneath our feet. The setting was tranquil, and the gentle rhythm of the bridge’s arches made the walk feel almost meditative.
The area around the bridge is just as charming. We saw cherry trees lining the riverbanks and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere with locals and a few food stalls around. We didn’t go up to Iwakuni Castle that day, but I could imagine how scenic the view would be from up there.
There’s a small fee to cross the bridge, but it’s absolutely worth it. This isn’t just a bridge—it’s a symbol of resilience, beauty, and timeless Japanese design. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it.

Must-Visit Spots in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi
If you're visiting Iwakuni in Yamaguchi, here are some spots you should check out!
I recently visited Iwakuni in Yamaguchi! Near the Kintai Bridge, there are shops offering soft serve ice cream and kawara soba.
For soft serve ice cream, there are two shops nearby: Musashi and Kojiro. You can compare their flavors! Definitely try both and see which one you prefer✨. They offer a wide variety of flavors, so you might have a hard time choosing. Why not challenge yourself with some unique options?✨
As for kawara soba, it's served on a heated roof tile, which makes for an impressive presentation! The soba noodles at the bottom get crispy, adding a delightful texture. It was absolutely delicious😋.

[Yamaguchi] Let's go see Japan's three greatest bridges!
Kintai Bridge is a wooden bridge that represents Japan and is located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
The five-arch bridge, made using timber-frame construction techniques that have been used since the Edo period, is said to be one of the three great bridges in Japan.
The mountains and the crystal clear Nishiki River that can be seen from Kintai Bridge are also captivating to see.
The best time to visit is from late March to April, when many cherry blossoms bloom along the river. It is also lit up at night, and the view of the Kintai Bridge together with the cherry blossoms at night is a wonderful sight.

Speaking of Yamaguchi Prefecture, this is it! [Sanzoku]
Sanzoku is often featured on the Kenmin Show.
I love the atmosphere, so I go there often 🚗³₃
Of course, the food is delicious too 𖥔 ࣪︎ 𓌉◯𓇋 ⡱
You can eat outside, or you can eat inside the building 🙆♀️
This time, I went into Sanzoku and ate at the building at the very back, Tori-an!
The Sanzoku-yaki flavor, a collaboration with potato chips, is also a great souvenir ☺️
Also, although it's not in the photo, the ohagi here are the best 🥰
If you go to Yamaguchi Prefecture, be sure to stop by!
